Do you need a top card for 1080p @144hz?

    • Yes please! 3080ti or 3070ti or…. Very confused, my card was 2080 Ti and still lag on some games

      • Which games and what do you mean by lag? Visible stutters or just dropping below 144hz? Only way I could see obvious lag happening is if you're running something with some heavy ray tracing, but then it's unlikely the new gen card will fix that completely. Do you get lag when you see a huge pile of NPCs around? That's more likely CPU issues.

I'd look at a 3080 and a 12700K. 10GB is better bang for buck right now, 12GB version is basically at 3080ti speeds. The 2080 ti is roughly the same speed as the 3070ti so it wouldn't be much of an upgrade. But a CPU upgrade would mean you're more likely to get the most out of your GPU at 1080p.

        • Thank you!!!!!! I can't remember which game is it but is a GTA type of game, Yes lag = FPS DROP, sorry!

I will look into CPU upgrade, is around $500 so it should still under budget..

        • My z390 doesn't fit 12700K………………………………..

  • Budget? How much are you willing to spend on a 'top' graphics card? 1K? 2K? 10K for one of those NVIDIA Quadro cards?

Thank you, Budget is around 2.5K or under.

You already named the cards? if you want to spend 2.5k - Get a 3080Ti……..Done

    • Make Sense… I will just get a 80Ti then, thank you ….

  • Top card at the moment is an RTX 3090.

Pointless getting anything "top" if you're stuck on 1080p..

    • Um… just don't like 2K OR 4K dont know why, worth upgrade from 144hz to 360hz?

      • 2K isn't a thing in consumer monitors. You mean 1440p which isn't the same thing as 2K.

No, 144 to 360 Hz isn't worth it. Find a good quality 32" 1440p monitor and you'll love it.

        • +1 to this; I have a 1440p/144Hz and it really hits the sweet spot for me; well worth considering especially if you end up going for the 3080

This is interesting, apparently 2080ti dying is common. I saw this post from Tech jesus on reddit asking for dead gpus.

Edit: just realised the post is a few years old….
