Single Mattress Pad/Topper That Doesn’t Cost as Much as a Whole Mattress

File this one under “I don’t understand why these are so expensive”.

I’m after a foam topper to lay on top of a camping stretcher bed so we can use it as another spare bed when people stay over. But for some reason it seems like these are super expensive, sometimes almost as much as just buying another mattress-in-a-box. Example: https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/tustna-mattress-pad-white-10298…

On the other end of the spectrum, Kmart had a cheaper option but this seems to resemble more of a quilt: https://www.kmart.com.au/product/high-loft-mattress-topper-s…

Also considering this tontine option, though it’s not memory foam: https://www.amazon.com.au/Tontine-T6037-Mattress-Topper-Doub…

Anyone have any suggestions in the sub $100 range?

  • Have you considered a folding foam mattress?

I don't know how it will go on a camping bed in terms of moving around when turning over during the night however they are surprisingly comfortable when placed on the floor for kids and adults. And easy to store.

    • I haven't seen these before. I might have to pop down to IKEA and have a look. Looks like a versatile option. Thanks.

      • Have a search online for similar options - you can also get them in larger sizes/depths.

      • We have one from Clark. We were initially hesitant as it's pretty pricey (got ours on special), but have used it regularly for 3 years with a kid, easy to lug around, we've had a few sleepovers. The slipcover is a bit cheap but the still like new.
