Tamron SP AF 17-50mm f2.8 XR Di-II LD Lens - $218 shipped for Canon/Nikon, $238 Pentax/Sony

410

Spotted on Whirlpool. This lens is excellent value at its regular price and an absolute steal for under $250. Regular price and cheapest elsewhere is $100 more.

DWI offers free shipping but I believe there is a surcharge for Paypal payments.

  • I want it to be honoured as well, maybe we can complain on their Facebook page if problems arise

      WHAT THE FLYING-FRYING-PAN!?

      • Got the same email, disappointed

lets all demand they honour their price on their facebook page and flood their emails. We have rights.

    Not honoured

    • It would be smarter for them to still offer it at a reduced price to us. Still potential customers

    • Received the same :-( Will still buy the lens but from not from DWI.

      • -2

I'm freaking pissed, where's the responsibility? If they stated it at a wrong price then we should get it at that price, it's common consumer rights. I've put up my other lens on ebay for sale.

        • I almost put my other lens on ebay as well!!!

        • +1

They can plausibly get away with saying it was a website input error, regardless if it was a genuine offer or not. There would need to be a documented history of them doing this regularly before the ACCC would look at it.

For me, how fast they process my refund tells me how genuine this 'error' was. If they sit on my money for a week or more then I'll know this mistake was due to incompetence or deliberate sham and I'll won't purchase from them again.

Kinda sucks for me since I ordered bought a 67mm filter without thinking… there's a couple extra dollars down the drain.

Anyway call me a cynic but the $218 price was actually a believable bargain price, such as getting rid of stock etc. Is it possible that DWI didn't expect the uptake and though "hey we could sell these lenses at a much higher price…" -_-

  • I will sent this case to ACCC, does it work?

    • Doesn't hurt to try.

and further I had to remove my lens off ebay, unwillingly. Sigh

    • they gonna get bad reputation if they continue to do these sort of things. money went thru paypal already and then they send emails as if the customers are wrong (cancelled the order ourselves when we didnt. not providing enough info when we gave home addresses. paid thru paypal so where's the security loophole?)

dwi should change their way of emails when dealing with these sort of things. I will be happy enough if they just say 'Sorry, we cant sell you the lens at this price.'

      • DWI really doesn't have a good rep around OZbargain with their mobile sales being unsealed and locked. Now with issues with these, this is very bad rep for the store

    • and 2% surcharge via paypal, they will refund the 2% as well?

      • If not we will lose $4.36 for nothing

  • I got 3 emails.

1# - I was like, YAY!! my order went through!!!!

Has anyone had their money refunded?

    • no refunds yet.

    • +1

Not yet. This inconvenience is really one hell of an inconvenience.

  • I got the same email. That said, even though I would have expected them to honor it, the question is now, when will we get our refund considering they have charged out money. Also since they accepted our money, it effectively forms a contract. Suppose they get something wrong, and don't honour the deal, they are in the wrong already but if they take lots of time before they give a refund, then that really calls for a ACCC issue. Plus we can post on their facebook page as well

    • Technically we can sue them and get an order for Specific Performance on their part of the contract. But I dont think any one of us will be willing to go through all the hassle - because its not cheap.

It doesnt matter what the price is, the fact that they displayed it for sale at $238 means as long as a customer purchases it at $238 (or $218) bona fide, that customer is entitled to the item at that price. Any action otherwise by the vendor will amount to a breach of contract.

  • No, they will not be honoring orders. I got this email.

Its funny how they didn't even write in the email saying sorry for the inconvenient and we will refund as soon as possible

    • yes i know, talk about customer service!
i still have not receive my refund yet, first time purchaser, most likely my last

  • What a joke of a company. I suggest everyone to make a complaint to the ACCC or whatever organization handles this sort of stuff and start a dispute on paypal - I know I definitely will!

    • started a dispute in Paypal

      • DWI refunded. funds now under temporary hold by Paypal.
hope things are alright at Paypal's side.

++ for DWI in refunding, but hope they can give more communication next time rather than just a "cancellation by buyer" email. Maybe even a special offer to top up some money to buy at a price lower than usual.

  • I got my order cancelled as well. How long does it take for them to refund the money?

  • I got my order cancelled even I ordered Canon 60D with the lens. waste my time.

  • Wow, DWI has a way of endearing themselves to customers, don't they?? It saddens me to see them ruin the reputation of their camera department like this…yes, they have had many well-documented issues with their tablets and mobile phones department, but their camera department has mostly been quite decent with minimal problems, until now…

Even though I'm not directly affected, can't stand the way they shafted so many of you guys here…will have to look elsewhere for my other grey import gear..

    • Had my order cancelled, very annoyed I wasn't given the option to follow through with order at "correct" price. Having said that I would have thought as a sign of good faith we would have been offered this at a discounted price to what the true price is.

      • Chances are if they offered you a cheaper price, you could go to the ACCC and claim a bait and switch or something

        • Except they are not in any way an Australian companu and the ACCC would have zero jurisdiction.

  • Not replying to emails and no refund, not buying from them ever again

  • haha, priced seemed a bit too good to be true.

  • I received my refund an hour ago.

I asked for a discount and they replied 'We are sorry for the error. The best we can offer is the price in our website.'

  • Still no refund yet. Not replying to my email as well.

    • Just received my refund.

  • $306 still seems a good price for this lens. Can anyone find it cheaper?
    Cheers

  • In an earlier comment I said "how fast they process my refund tells me how genuine this 'error' was."

Six days after they said they'd refunded to my account, still hasn't appeared. So color me skeptical that this was a pricing mistake.
