[Kogan First] Kogan 34 Inch 1440p VA Curved Gaming Monitor 165Hz $579 ($599 without KF) + Delivery @ Kogan

64

Here's an alternative to the Dell/Xiaomi, I personally got this monitor and tested it this week and think it's worth the current sale price. The usual price is $639.

You can get a free Kogan First trial (I was eligible again despite just using it a few months ago, don't know why) to get the $579 price. Shipping to QLD was $19.99 for me.
Important Activate the Kogan First trial outside, manually, DON'T DO IT IN THE CART DURING CHECKOUT. This allows you to use gift card/store credits.

Can get a further 6% off gift card through Suncorp Rewards, which is instant and available for anyone with a free online debit account.

Mini review

Exceeded my expectations, the 165 Hz is real. At the UFO blur test, there's SIGNIFICANTLY less smearing than the Dell S2722DGM which is also a 165 Hz VA panel. Factory calibration is also pretty good. Comes with a very premium-feeling all-metal stand (only tilt, no height/swivel), and is vesa-compatible. Has a 2-port USB "hub", and included cables are also quite high quality (-feeling, I don't have testers).

Didn't touch any of the "HDR" stuff - I know it's going to be underwhelming. (so is everything else at this price and ~400 nits peak brightness)

NOTE: The curvature is actually 1800R, not the advertised 1000R. I compared it with my existing 34" 1800R, and it was identical. I was hoping for a more aggressive curvature, but unfortunately the options at these specs and price point are all 1800R.

My personal calibration profiles (not a professional).

Joke post. Price is a joke compared to the dell and xiaomi units

    • Was just thinking, I have 2 x Dell 34" each for $560. Night and day.

    • Some may find $20 for the boost to 165Hz worth it.

Not when it's a kogan product

        • don't know why the hate, I've been buying lots from Kogan, their customer support has always done right by me when the product has issues/needs replacement.

          • @xrailgun: Unfortunately, most people can't say the same. So many people here got screwed over and refuse now to buy there, nearly irrelevant of how good the price may be. But ymmv

I'd rather spend $2.5k on a GPU than buy anything from Kogan.

I wouldn't buy it since my last experience with Kogan's after sales support.

The resale on this would be awful compared to the Dell if you're the type to upgrade often.

    • that's a good point. I usually use my monitors until they die, averaging about 8 years each so far, hoping QD-OLED prices come down enough by then.

Can get an LG for $10 cheaper if you ignore the special membership, no deal here https://www.centrecom.com.au/lg-34wp60c-b-34-ultrawide-qhd-1…

    • +2

But can I sign up for trials on two completely unnecessary accounts I'll never use if I buy the LG?

  • +1

USB C interface can only go 1080p, which makes it useless

    • Are you sure? It says "Clear your desk of wires and maximise your working space with a one-cable USB-C, allowing you to transmit 1440p video and audio and connect to laptops".

      • Read the spec, you will find.

        • +4

          Computer Supported Resolutions 3440 x 1440 @100hz (HDMI), 3440 × 1440 @144hz (Display Port), 2560 x 1080 @ 60hz (USB-C)

Wow you're right, and the reviews say the same. Blatant false advertising in the description. Capping it at 1080p 60Hz feels like those Chinese phones that come with a 2MP macro camera just to say they have triple cameras.

    Rubbish

  • there's SIGNIFICANTLY less smearing than the Dell S2722DGM

The only way this is true is if you never changed the overdrive setting on the Dell.

    • Dell's is on "Super Fast" as recommended by RTings, then personally verified on the UFO test.

      • Feel free to do a handwave recording using your phone camera at high FPS if you want. There'd be people on the BlurBusters forums keen to learn more about what panel the Kogan has if that's true.
