Amazon current is currently selling the Belkin Lightning Audio + Charge Rockstar adapter for $24, which lets someone with a newer iPhone (no headphone jack) listen to music while charging at the same time (it's compatible with the Apple Lightning to 3.5mm audio adapter). They're probably price matching Bing Lee's deal, so I would imagine this ends when that ends, but there's the free delivery included for Amazon Prime members or with a $39 min spend. You can price match at Officeworks for a further 5% off, and JB Hi-Fi sells this as well. You may be able to price match at JB as well, though YMMV.

  • Delivers power to iPhone/iPad and audio out; only supports lightning audio, not audio split/dual charge/data sync/other lightning adapters than Apple's lighting to 3.5 mm adapter
  • Listen to lightning audio and charge at the same time (supports up to 48 kHz, 24-bit audio output + pass-through charging up to 12 W for iPhone and iPad)
  • Supports remote control and microphone from lightning audio headphones
  • Works with: Made for iPhone X/8 Plus/8/7 Plus/7 and devices running iOS 10 or later, MFI certified lightning audio headphones, Apple's lighting to 3.5 mm adapter, MFI certified USB to lightning cables
  • Works with Apple smart battery case for iPhone 7; to work properly, connect charging cable and lightning headphones to RockStar prior to inserting into the battery case

GG Apple. Way to make a phone unnoticeably smaller whilst requiring bulky crap like this

    Samsung etc just as guilty.

    • It's not necessarily all about size - I read at the time this was a hot topic, one of the reasons for removing the headphone jack was waterproofing..

      • +1

Plenty of other waterproof phones out there with headphone jacks tho

      • Everyday usability loss vs waterproofing which shouldn't be necessary if you take care of your phone. I'm yet to have a water issue despite taking no special care whatsoever.

PS: the 3.5mm can be waterproofed anyway. Every port can. The only issue is replacing a corroded port. I'm quite happy to have a 3.5mm port and if i duck it up by dropping it in salt water then I've only got myself to blame for losing my ports.

    • You can buy wireless headsets for cheaper than this adapter. This is no longer required unless you are clinging onto wired technology.

Wireless headsets that are cheaper than this adapter offer garbage sound and limited battery life. Plus there's radiation. Wired is much better in terms of sound quality and there are no battery issues.

My $1300 unique melody miracles are not beaten by any wireless product in the market, nor could they be when batteries will only ever last a few years max (whos going to bin their headphones every few years… or even getting them reshelled with a new battery would be $500+)

why doesn't it just have lightning and a 3.5mm audio jack onboard rather than needing another adapter??
    its just so bulky

    • There is but it’s $49 still.. see flavours.. I mean options

    • You can get the one that has a 3.5mm jack, but this one means that you can use lightning headphones or a 3.5mm headphone via an adapter. The DAC quality on the Apple Lightning to 3.5mm audio adapter is probably a bit better than the one you can get on the Belkin Rockstar adapter with 3.5mm jack. Despite Apple's design choices, this lets you listen via a wired audio device while charging (using a cable) at the same time. It could be handy when your battery isn't so good, or if you just need to keep listening while charging. The price is very reasonable given the original RRP.

I have one of these for $6 from Aliexpress and it does the job. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003532110040.html?spm=a2…

    • Belkin is always a rip off, too much hyped

      • Belkin has good quality, well designed products with reliable warranty. They're owned by Foxconn.
