    • Just reset internet on the SIM if you are eager to know.

    • tried using 4G, still no luck. Same error message.

      • Very likely your card has been locked after too many tries

        • Tried inputting a different card number and same error.

    • +1

huh, thanks for that. Switching IP and opening a new incognito window worked fine

  • +1

FYI card not accepted on reward gateway gift card portal. Tried to buy cokes egiftcard to stack further discount but got an error message.

Also does anyone find these cards hard to swipe at POS? It gives a "stuck" feeling on the card machine when you try to swipe.

    • +2

FYI card not accepted on reward gateway gift card portal.

      Not surprised.

Reward Gateway is unusual in that they actually check whether the card you’re trying to use has 3D Secure 2.0. If it does not, you’ll get a strange error message on the Android app, and unhelpful generic error messages on the iOS app and through the website.

Reward Gateway apparently always required 3D Secure support on all cards, but their implementation of the checks before Sep/Oct 2021 was flawed; instead of stopping payment if the card failed the 3D Secure check, it would simply skip the check and proceed to redeem funds from your card. However, after their payment processor upgraded their systems to only accept cards with 3D Secure 2.0 support Sep/Oct 2021, it removed the flaw.

Btw, Reward Gateway staff have told me that all prepaid cards are not allowed on their portal, but that’s demonstrably false, because I used a prepaid card with 3D Secure 2.0 support after Oct 2021 on Reward Gateway and it passed all the security checks.

You can tell I had multiple discussions late last year with Reward Gateway staff about their platform and prepaid gift cards…

Also does anyone find these cards hard to swipe at POS? It gives a "stuck" feeling on the card machine when you try to swipe.

No, it swiped fine for me at Woolworths and Coles.

      • Does making payments over the phone get around this issue? I don't mean with Reward Gateway but just other retailers that seem to block online payment with these cards?

        • +1

It should get around the issue of no 3D Secure 2.0 support, but you'd be hard-pressed to find a merchant that will allow MO/TO (mail order / telephone order) transactions, as the merchant has no way to verify you are the legitimate cardholder.

A MO/TO transaction generally only requires the 16 digit card number and the expiry date to authorise the transaction, which means it is a particular favourite for anyone wanting to commit card fraud…

I actually cannot think of any merchants that officially allow MO/TO transactions.

      • I used a prepaid card with 3D Secure 2.0 support

Which card? I thought you said prepaid cards can't support it

        • Prepaid gift cards cannot support 3D Secure, because those cards are not tied to a specific cardholder. A merchant cannot ask the card issuer to use two factor authentication to verify whether the cardholder is the one authorising the transaction, because they do not have records of who the legitimate cardholder is.

Some prepaid cards (e.g. Qantas Travel Money) support 3D Secure 2.0, because those prepaid cards are actually tied to a specific cardholder. Prepaid cards that support 3D Secure are almost always reloadable prepaid cards, since anti-money laundering and terrorism financing restrictions require the card issuer to know who you actually are anyway.

    • +6

Lol the stuck feeling is cause you haven’t taken off the hot glue sticky thingy of the card mate.

      • Forget what I said above. Bro take some wd40 from home and spray it on the card machine

  • Anyone tried using with PayPal? Doesn’t work for me but last time around worked no issues

    • I am able to link the card with Paypal Wallet
      haven't tried payment yet thou

  • When no $250 left, $100 will do for $5.5 profit.

  • There are still plenty of $250 ones at Coles Kallangur QLD this afternoon.

  • Can you use it to buy special gift card?

    • +2

Whats the point? Something on sale now?

      • Not on sale was just asking as you can add the special card to google pay wallet.

    • What is "special gift card"?

      • +1

Special.com.au site that sells gift cards with no setup fee. They can pretty much be used anywhere and very easy to add to your apple wallet.

  • -3

Very frustrating using the new Coles prepaid cards. You have to call the 07 phone number on the back of the card to activate before use…takes 30 minutes or so to be active, then can be used as per normal gift cards for store or online purchases.

    • +2

      Really?

I bought five early this morning, and I redeemed all of them this evening. I did not need to do anything after the checkout approved the gift card sale (besides wait for the gift cards to be activated and for the full $250 balance to be available for redemption).

      • @WookieMonster Hey, I've yet to use the card I bought this morning as it's still getting system error on https://www.mybalancenow.com/. Do you manage or have to check the card balance at https://www.mybalancenow.com/ before using them?

        • +1

I checked the balance of a card this afternoon on the website you linked to (and it was a card I bought early in the morning). I just checked the card's balance again (after I redeemed it not long ago) and I can still see the pending charges on there. For the other four cards I mentioned in my comment, I did not check their balance before I made a payment using them.

I purchased one more card this evening, but I haven't checked the balance yet, because it has been less than 4.5 hours since I purchased it.

What happens if you call the phone number on the back of the card and attempt to check the balance of your card that way? I checked the balance of a card that way last week and it worked (although I found the robotic voice rather grating…).

          • +1

@WookieMonster: The phone number lets you hear the balance but not individual transactions. Very annoying the website doesn’t seem to work for some.

          • +1

@WookieMonster: Did not occur to me to call the CS number. Managed to get the card balance after calling the automated CS number. It even gives an option to hear the last 5 recent transactions!!

    • I used 2 of mine 7 hours after purchasing with no problems yesterday. I bought the Woolies top up gift cards online that were mentioned on another thread here.

  • Plenty of $100 cards at Colonnades Adelaide, zero $250 cards

  • I couldn't pay with the previous Coles Prepaid MasterCard gift card :(

    • By previous you mean Vanilla gift card or Coles Mastercards which had pin on back?

      • The latter. I was able to do the inception with them before.

      • silly question: where is the PIN on the back?

  • +1

Several 250 cards and plenty of 100's at Mundaring WA

  • multiple stores in sydney, que out the door at 7am, all 250's gone, only had 100s left

  • Hi guys I bought 5x$250 this morning and do I need to do anything (like someone said to call 07 number to activate before use)?

Or I can just wait for 24 hours after purchasing and use it straight away? Thanks.

    • +2

I think you only have to wait 4 hours

    • +1

I bought 5x $250 early this morning. I redeemed all five this evening without doing anything (except wait).

I think the general rule of thumb is to wait 4.5 hours from the time of purchase before the full funds on the card are available for redemption.

A lot of people here are saying 4 hours. However, my experience and at least one other OzBargainer's experience during the last 10% prepaid gift card deal at Coles was that you can log into your prepaid gift card and only redeem part of the $250 balance after 4 hours. We found that you generally had to wait an extra 30 minutes before you can be sure the full $250 was available for redemption.1

To be fair, I don't think the 4.5 hour rule of thumb always applies, because there are so many prepaid gift cards being purchased today, so InComm's systems are particularly busy loading funds onto a lot of prepaid gift cards and there may be extended wait times (or stuff-ups).

      1. I know the last 10% prepaid gift card deal at Coles was for Vanilla Visa gift cards, but the prepaid gift cards in this week's deal are simply re-skinned versions of the Vanilla Visa gift card. InComm own and operate both prepaid gift cards, the packaging and card design for both is extremely similar, plus I saw references on the balance check website of a "Vanilla Mastercard" gift card…

      • @wookiemonster, I read somewhere in thread that Heritage Bank was the institution behind this giftcard. If that not correct or am I conflating the roles of the financial institution and what InComm does?

        • +3

I'm actually not 100% sure about this either.

I was previously told this by Heritage Bank:

          • InComm is the owner and operator of the prepaid gift card, and manages any data associated with a specific prepaid gift card (e.g. transaction information). (My guess is that this refers to the fact that InComm owns the gift card design, gift card packaging design, the balance check website and the somewhat-automated phone service, amongst other things.)

          • Heritage Bank is the card issuer, and does financial administration associated with a specific prepaid gift card. (I think this refers to the collection of money from Coles at the time of sale, as well as managing any payments or refunds going through the Mastercard network.)

As a side note, Heritage Bank is also the issuer of the Ultimate (Visa) gift cards, but I think the owner and operator of the Ultimate (Visa) gift cards is actually Blackhawk Network.

  • does anyone know if the cards are stocked at the main coles depot?
If its stocked at the depot, then stock could allocated in the next delivery

or is it dropped off by a gift card rep?

    • +1

Apparently it comes as a special delivery. The staff member I asked was very unhelpful though.

    • +3

Stores will restock if/when they receive new stock. For the record, gift card stock is not sent to stores in the large trucks you may see in a loading dock adjacent to a store…

      • In some areas, a gift card distributor will send a representative to a store with gift cards and have them restock the gift card shelves in a store.

      • However, in most areas, a store will be sent fresh stock of gift cards via a courier, and then it would be up to store staff to restock the gift card shelves.

  • +1

I have $30k tuition fee due next month, I have bought $100 and it works. Now my question is can I buy in that amount (120 x $250)?

It would save me a lot of money, at least $3k…

    • +2

Sure. You just have to beat thousands of other people also doing the same.

    • +9

I think if the same Coles saw you buying 24 X 5 (5 at a time), alarm bells would go off. I was eyed closely at the self-checkout just buying the 5 I bought yesterday. These are the only 5 I've bought too. Also, buying 30K wouldn't save you 3K. It's not a 10% return. More like 7.48%. Am hoping the tuition money isn't for a finance degree.

      • Thanks for reminding me! Ahahaha it's for my master of finance degree :(

  • Does anyone know how to prepaid into council bill (for brisbane)? Can I do it online or have to go yo post office?

    • Goto https://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/about-council/council-inform…
Click "Pay your rates now through Council's online payment service"
In the payment page , try searching with your account number.
Let us know if further steps work

      • +2

"A credit and debit card surcharge rate of 0.52% applies to rate payments" so I guess we have to pay the surcharge if we do it online.

I remember I saw some people said we can pay it at post office without the surcharge…But don't know how to do it..

        • +1

0.52% surcharge compensated by ~7.5% gain through this card .
Say you are spending 30 mins (to travel to and fro from post office + waiting in line at post office) + cost of travel , would this be less than the surcharge amount?

          • +1

@FunDeal: What if I already spent 3 hours visiting 10 coles stores to find the giftcards ?

            • +2

@Savas: That counts , make it worthwhile if you are spending 3 hours . I would look at a minimum gain of $200

  • +1

Will coles reload the stock on daily basis ? My local store has none left

  • +2

Just saw someone buying 5 yellow ones and paying with e-giftcards in $30 lots. Can't believe the cashier was tolerating it. It really is no wonder some staff go on a power trip.

    • +6

I just saw someone arguing with multiple staff because they wanted to buy more than 5 cards - I really respect the staff with all the entitled idiots that they have to endure every day. The more this happens, Coles is more likely to never have these promotions again.

      • Nope, they do it the same way every time, never learning. Coles staff yesterday said “we will know what to do next time”, keep them behind the service counter.

    • I don't see anything wrong with that as long as they aren't holding up the queue.

      • The queue came to a standstill so another cashier had to open up the one beside it. I also think it makes staff frustrated which makes them more likely to just refuse all e-giftcards in the future.

    • you can split payment a gift card.

    • I thought you needed Coles gift card exceeding the $250 to buy the $250 MasterCard. How did they manage to do $30 each time?

  • Just get the orange error message when I try to check the balance through here: https://www.mybalancenow.com
Same thing last night - not sure if it is working for others?

    • Just worked for me

      • Maybe they dont like my IP, I will try from the phone
        EDIT:
Still get "a system error has occurred, please try again later"
        Strange

        • +1

I think that means the card has not yet been activated

    • +1

I got that an hour or so ago, too. If you call the phone number on the card, it's actually super easy to check- only need card number and ccv.
Tested before spending the entire balance, then after, and the details were accurate at both.

    • +1

Update: Chrome Incognito mode works successfully for me, but nothing else.

  • I bought 5 and scanned my flybuys card. It didn't give me any points - expected. It didn't even show up in my flybuys app under 'Activity', it looks like it only shows a transaction if you get flybuy points.

    • +2

Check it after 5pm today if bought yesterday (or tmr 5pm).

    • Flybuys points/transactions can [and usually do] take a couple days to show in the app. You'll get the 1pt/$1.

    • +1

In the June 2021 offer I bought $5,000 worth of $250 cards over several days and each time a different staff member told me I wouldn't earn FlyBuys but I did. I'm waiting to see what happens this time around.

      • +1

Of the 13 I purchased I only scanned my FB card on a purchase of just 1 because I also did a small shop and today I see I got points for the MC as well, so back tomorrow with the biggest receipts to get the flybuys added.

        • +1

Remember your shopping minimum dollar limits will wildly increase. Maybe use a spare account?

          • @Yola: I know that conventional wisdom says that is the case but even after I spent $4,625 on these cards in three days last June (all scanned under my FlyBuys card) there was only a $10 increase to my next weekly spend offer. I didn't participate in that one (on purpose) and it reverted back to the usual figure for the next offer. YMMV.

            • @cryptowiz: I used a couple of my cards during the last deal and the weekly offers went up from $50 to $80 per week. This time I have used just one account and will see if it increases.

  • +4

Used 2 x $250 to purchase 2 x $262.50 Woolies gift cards. Just in case anyone missed it: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/706248

    • Or you can wait for Preeze/SB/CR promo for better value

      • Needed some Woolies cash, which doesn't happen on SB/CR, so used $500 for that, and have set the other $500 (2 x 250) aside to wait for other deals, yep.

    • +4

I did the same. Coles CEO will be so sad to know what we are doing. Its like he is paying us to shop at woolies lol

      • +1

Haha, yeah, and Woolies CEO will be happy to know what we are doing.

  • Just wondering can we purchase another card using the activated card (after 4-5 hours)? Cheers

    • +3

Yes, it worked for me yesterday

      • Can we split the payment for them? e.g. use 3 x $100 activated cards to pay for a $250 card.

        • +1

          You can’t at self checkout

      • If I still find stock left, I could just go to a self checkout, and complete inception purchase one card at a time (will probably just do 1 or 2).
Will this require manual intervention from the attendant?

        • +1

I think all gift cards need staff acknowledgment before payment.

        • +3

It only requires the usual approvals from the self checkout assistant.

As soon as you go to the payment screen, there will be a prompt where a staff member needs to approve the transaction, but that takes place before you get to the payment screen.

Staff do not need to do anything after this step in order for you to complete payment.

      • Can you purchase a $250 Coles MasterCard using a $250 Coles MasterCard?

        • +1

WookieMonster said he can, it will have a balance of $18.7.

        • +2

          Yes, I did that yesterday.
