Long term international travel insurance - Canada + snow cover

Hoping to leverage the community here for recent recommendations for international travel insurance to Canada with snow activity inclusions.

Will be for 1 adult and 3 children under 12. For 5-6 months from August 2022 to Jan 2023.

It doesn't have to have extra cover for snow, but it needs to useful in the event of a snow related injury.

1Cover - who I have used in the past is about $1500. Hoping to get something better than this.

The other option is I can use my policy to cover the family listed about, but I'll only be there until September, so they will need a new policy after September. If this means they can get a local Canadian policy that works out better we can do that. The one adult starting is a citizen and the kids might be citizens in the timeframe before I leave if that makes any difference. Won't be eligible for local health insurance though.

Hoping someone on here had found a cracker policy lately or can point out to me how to leverage citizenship for a different type of insurance I'm not aware of.

Cheers

  • A difficult question that sorry I can’t help with, but as a citizen(s) of Canada, doesn't that give you any medical cover?

    • It does but only if you can prove residency - messaging you have to be there for 6 months and can only apply after being there for 3 months, so the timing probably won't work out

  • The cheapest insurance is usually the free ones with premium credit cards - https://www.pointhacks.com.au/tools-calculators/credit-card-…. However they are usually a basic cover (so not including snow cover), and usually come with a high excess for things that are generally not emergencies. They can include cover for spouses, not sure about kids. Some of the policies last up to a year as well.

  • Tick Travel Insurance tends to be cheap with optional snow cover, not sure about any claim experiences though
