Only if it was HDMI 2.1

    QLED… Not even once.

    • +3

      Why?

      • +8

It a marketing gimmick. It a full array lcd panel with additional colours. Not even close to mini led quality.

        • +3

Mini LED is a different price range, right?

          • +8

@jianh: Mini LED is only really an option for 35yo OzB'ers with net worths of 1.5million+++

They're still prohibitively expensive for the normal person. OLEDs on the other hand are now becoming more affordable(65" and down at least) and are definitely worth a look.

            • @[Deactivated]: TLC mini LED are $1600 at JB

              • +1

@emrys1: TCL Mini Led isn't mini led. It's mini backlight led. It's complete bollocks for them to hijack the original concept of individual, non-organic "LEDS" that you're thinking of as a term. That's why it's cheap as all hell, but the real-deal Samsung stuff is tens of thousands of dollars.

          • @jianh: Yes one tier above in pricing

        • +5

          Indeed.

          At a typical Samsung meeting:

COO of product: How can we make our LCD TVs sound like it’s of OLED quality but still be based of the same cheap components whilst driving up sales?

Freshman 1: The letter ‘Q’ looks very similar to an ‘O’ so maybe call it Quality-LED?

Freshman 2: Nah we need to sound more futuristic. Let’s go full metal Quantum!

COO of product: I’m convinced, and I’m a dumba**. QLED it is.

        • What would be a better choice in the same price range?

LG Nano cell? Or is it a marketing gimmick?

My choice would be 75" Sony X90J but it's $2000

          • +2

@utsc: Aim for A80J or A90J as they are the real TV's @utsc

            • @rehan770: Agreed but most including me can not afford them

          • +1

@utsc: Must you stick with 75”? Nano cell is form of IPS panel. Has it con and perk. That X90J is full array panel. I suggest the runout C1 55” oled for around the $1800 mark if you can compromise on the size.

            • @ChickenAdobo: Thank you. I am fine with a 65" and really don't need a 75"

              • +1

@utsc: If your budget is 2k max and you want 65” i suggest waiting abit more for TCL or Hisense to drop their value for their Mini Led ranges.

      • +8

What Senor Adobo said basically, its a marketing bs term coined to con unsuspecting boomers like parents into thinking theyre getting a top end tv with "muh quantum dots". In reality its just a bog standard led lcd tv which has been around for ages.

Additionally the QLED tvs were heavily marketed as competitors to OLEDs by Samsung despite them being entirely different tech, just the usual marketing bs by Samsung.

        • +9

But Q comes after O in the alphabet so QLED must be the newer technology? /s

          • @blonky: You must be the smartest kid in Grade 1 :) High 5 !

        • from my understanding the neo QLEDs are supposed to be samsungs competitor to OLEDs. neo QLEDs are supposed to be way better than QLED, as the price would show

The Samsung store is completely destroyed at the moment. I ordered a TV almost 2 months ago. They don't know where it is, but they also can't give me a refund. Support is horrible. At the point of doing a credit card charge-back. Save yourself the headache, pay a bit more and buy from a bricks and mortar retailer who have it in stock.

    • +1

Samsung and LG customer service are horrible

      • Sony is horrible as well

        • agree, now the big 3 are bad, Hisense fools the Australian market, what should we buy?

          • +1

@ntt: I wish more people bought Panasonic. I absolutely love mine and the natural colour it gives, but they ran the hell away from the country :s

    • Reach out via Facebook to Samsung if have not, sorry to hear though

Mate I ordered a phone for my dad late April, was delivered early May, received shipping notification email just last week. An absolute shambles.

      • +2

I was in the TGG the other week. While I was at the counter, one of their staff rang a customer to say their washing machine had arrived, but it had arrived dented. Did they need a loaner machine in the meantime while they re-ordered a replacement new one for them?

That's how you make a bad situation good.

        • Yeah TGG is really good for that kind of thing. I guess they must pay peanuts for shipping?!

    • Yes to this.
Had washing machine damaged on delivery, talk to chat stright away to get replacement.
That was 3 weeks ago (no pickup for damaged washing machine yet)

    • Agreed, I bought a phone and had the exact same experience.

    • same bought tv in feb, came in late april

    • +2

I agree. Don't buy from the online store waiting for this exact TV to be delivered. Going on 2 months! The system stuffed up the delivery address, 11 calls 15 hours, spoken with 2 supervisors and still no one has a clue when the TV will be delivered.

These idiots don't know what they're doing. Family member purchased the TV and they want to wait so I'm trying to sort this out. If it was up to me I would've cancelled it along time ago.

      Buyers beware.

  • What's the major difference between Q70B and Q60B. Worth the extra for Q70B?

    • +3

      10

    • I think the 70 and above get hdmi2.1..not a 100% sure so don't quote me on it…

    • HDMI 2.1 bandwidth, or variable refresh rate (VRR) support

    • Q70B has HDMI 2.1 and support 120Hz refresh rate for gaming vs. maximum 60Hz on Q60B.

      • +1

I think the base is different too. Q70B has the same style base as the Q80B (central stand), whereas the Q60B has more traditional table legs which would require a wider entertainment unit.

I found these links really helpful:

Q60B vs Q80B (video) - watch this alongside the below article.
Samsung 2022 Model Numbers Explained (article)

        Excerpts:

Q80B: The Q80B is Samsung’s top-of-the-range QLED and offers a more affordable 4K experience than the Neo QLEDs with their fancy Mini LED backlights. It’s powered by the Quantum Processor 4K, runs basic Object Tracking Sound tech and makes use of Motion Xcelerator Turbo+.
Q70B: This QLED delivers a similar experience to its more expensive stablemate but there are a few key differences to note. The Q70B’s HDR peak brightness is inferior, there’s no 50in model and it uses the less immersive Lite version of OTS.
Q60B: With screen sizes ranging from 43in to 85in, there’s a Q60B for just about any living space. The Q60B sports the same AirSlim design as the Q70B but uses a less advanced processor (Quantum Processor 4K Lite) and only features the most basic version of Samsung’s Motion Xcelerator technology.

Samsung e-commerce/online service is such a useless and hopeless. Ordered dryer and TV and it suppose to be delivered on 14th June and now they don't know what happened. Now telling a story that Metro and regional area and then the advised that issues has been escalated. escalated mean what? sick of Samsung service and customer service. once you order then you can't cancel it, can't do anything and any Samsung e-commerce team or CS team not willing to take any responsibility to care the customer. wondering what to do…

    • +1

I've been waiting since mid march for a TV to be delivered. 'Escalated' countless times. Their store is so unbelievably bad, I'm inclined to believe they're a criminal enterprise - my money was taken in March, they are completely unable to deliver product, repeatedly lie about it coming 'within 1-2 weeks', and cannot refund. I've lost at least 10 hours over several months on the phone to customer support.

It's just not worth it - and this isn't an isolated case: https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/samsung-online-sto…

edit: following this post I checked my order status online out of interest. Hilariously it has changed to status delivered, yet I don't have it. I guess I'll be calling for the millionth time on Monday
