How to get to the Telstra chat? I only managed to reach chat-bot. :(

      • Just have to say signed on to jb Hi-Fi plan and friend was able to get a port in credit. They asked a few questions and I just said that jb did the gift card and my friend thought that Telstra had to do port in.

  • +1

Was going to wait for Pixel 7 but this is tempting.

    • +1

Same, I'm reading that the 7 may be marginal gains over the 6 so maybe the price here is worth it…

      • Might get pixel 7a cause inflation and empty wallet

  • +1

Telstra are reporting their Medium/Essential plan (along with the others) are increasing from July 1st (https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/plan-price-updates).

What I can't work out is how (if at all) the JB plans are affected by this. The "$69" plan promoted by JB Hifi looks a lot like the Telstra Essential plan (albeit after the price change and a dollar more expensive) but the data doesn't match up. It would be an even better deal if your data ended up going to 180Gb from next month.

    Anyone know how this works?

    • Offer ends 26 June 2022

      • Understand that, but the plan is a minimum 12-month term which will therefore extend beyond July 1st.

        • +1

Usually if you're under a term contract the price won't change. Usually.

          • +1

            @xerozia: Not in this case;
(From the Telstra webpage I linked):
"If I sign up to a new plan before July 1, 2022, will I avoid the price increase?
No, your plan price will still increase from July in line with the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

Our plans terms and conditions have been updated to include an annual price review, and its price may increase in July each year in line with the Consumer Price Index (CPI). This also means that the next potential price increase may be from July 2023. We'll notify you beforehand if this change takes effect."

            • +2

@Webslave: That page also states "No lock-in contract." so still unclear how relevant to this one (12M).

              • @SolidlyIrresponsible: Excellent point. Perhaps the JB plans are not the same plans?

                • +1

@Webslave: Would't be surprised if even Telstra doesn't know the answer to this one. Got to read the small print I guess. Maybe they will raise it and void the 12M lock in as a result.

                  • +2

@SolidlyIrresponsible: The CIS linked from JB's site says:

                    Changes to your plan
From time to time we may make changes to your plan or addons (including price and inclusions), or we may move you to a new plan (which may cost more). If we reasonably think that a change is likely to be detrimental to you, we'll tell you at least 30 days before making it. If you don't like the change you can change or cancel your plan or add-ons and just pay out your services and vouchers in full.

                • +2

@Webslave: Yes, the JB plans are completley different.
                  12/24 month contract
                  Different billing system
                  No data sharing

            • +1

@Webslave: Shouldn't prices be reducing? I would be getting something in writing from JB saying that the contract is not subject to price increases, then you can ditch it without penalty when Telstra ups the price.

            • +2

@Webslave: I asked at the Telstra store in Sydney - if you sign up for the JB Hi FI $69 it stays $69. If you signed up with Telstra it would be different.

      • "ends 26 June 2022" so is it still available on that day, or what time does it finish?

        • +1

I would say it's available til close of business on the 26th

  • +2

Does the early termination trick from a couple of years ago still work? Keen to keep my $10 Belong plan while it lasts

    • no ~ both the long and short answer; they have gotten wise to that. Keep the BELONG sim in say a 3G/4G ipad/tablet maybe

      • When will the $10 Belong plan be totally gone.

  • Had anyone being rejected for the contract with Telstra? Tried twice a few months ago but got rejected. Credit score was in very good range. Last time I had contract with Telstra was when they had promo with Huawei and got loophole you can cancel the contract immediately only paying small amount of exit fee.

    • +4

Maybe exploiting the loophole got you blacklisted lol

      • Guess so lol

    • +1

Yeah I had some big issues with Telstra and JB hi-fi

They said over a six year period I had too many phones and contracts

Was literally 6 phones in six years but the main issue was JB hi-fi stuffed them up a few times so instead of putting 1 through once sometimes they did it 3 times for the same deal or number and then terminate the two they did wrong.

Took a looooong time but finally someone very senior at JB hi-fi took off the lock on my account / drivers license

Then turns out Telstra put a DO not sell on my account for having too many accounts setup with JB hi-fi and terminating over a 6 year period. Did a few and cancelled but paid the etc charges back then $360 or $295

Took Telstra to TIO and they said Telstra can deem me not a profitable customer and don't have to change it

So yeah long story short… Changed my drivers license recently so going to see if this helps but I have an existing telstta account . It's fine but cannot setup new plans. Can only purchase phones outright

To me it's kinda silly I mean don't sell phones and put the ETC too low then blame the customer lol. could have abused it but 6 over 6 years is nothing

      • Yeah I guess TELSTRA do not sell too on my account. Oh well, doesn't really need a new phone anyway.

      • Joys of Aussie companies being able to use and share your data as they please aye?
Tied all that to your driver id none the less. And up to you to waste your time and energy proving that their drone made a mistake that you are suffering for.

Gives me total black mirror vibes.

Can I create a new number for new service A, port my regular number in later on a Telstra prepaid, then move my number from the Telstra prepaid to my service A?

  • +2

Can someone confirm that if I buy the phone, I can return it and get either a JB giftcard or credit for the full price of the phone? And also keep the plan?

    • +1

Sure! As soon as they see the $399 on your receipt they'll definitely want to refund you $1,049. Good luck with that.

  • +4

Just got this pleasantly surprised, combined with Zip Pay and haggle online with Telstra to bring down the $69pm to $59pm or if lucky $49pm.

    • It is great. Can you share your experience? I will try!

      • I replied to my own post with instructions, good luck.

    • Yes, I would like to know how you did with Telstra as well. I told them about it and they only told me to go to a Telstra store and ask about it. :(

      • I replied to my own post with instructions, good luck.

    • Would really appreciate those details also if possible please.

      • I replied to my own post with instructions, good luck.

    • I managed to get confirmation from Telstra online my per month will be brought down to $49. Here is what I did -

You need to speak to Telstra, I went onto online chat and said - My friend received $20 credit for the $69 per month plan and would like written confirmation that I can receive the same before going ahead with port-in. Once you have it in writing take a screenshot as you will need to contact Telstra again after port-in is completed.

I hope you are successful as I was.

      • I just got off the Telstra chat and they said it was impossible as they don't have access to the jbhifi plan.

        • +1

That's a lie. Telstra bill you

        • +2

The first time I tried (last night) they said the same. Tried again today around midday and got it no problems. Don't know if time of day helped with support people in different places.

      • Can you give me instructions on how you got to the online chat? I've been to the telstra website a number of times and started convos with Telstra staff and they couldnt really provide any info on the Jb plan and said they could offer a port in discount for plans purchased through them. This happened with multiple Telstra staff.

  • +1

Can i get this deal without visiting the store ?

    • +3

Get the Google Pixel 6 Pro 128GB for $399 upfront when you switch^ your number to Telstra on a $69 Plan over 12 months and sign up in store!

  • oh whatttt i just signed up for the $400 gc this morning they didn't tell me anything about the pixel pro 6 on this plan!

  • Need to get rid of the 6/6 Pro stock before the 6a arrives.

    • +3

But the 6a isn't as good as either of the first two? Different class of phone

      • But it will be cheaper (749 vs 999) than the 6/6P so people will more likely buy the 6a and the 6/6P sales will decline. For most people spec wise the 6a is fine. It has the same resolution, same camera, same chipset and the look the same. The 749 is the advised price for the 6a but I think it will go for less.

        • main camera is different according to gsmarena. Rest of specs seem similar, Same CPU, 6gb of ram instead of 8gb and slightly smaller battery

50 MP, f/1.9, 25mm (wide), 1/1.31", 1.2µm, Dual Pixel PDAF, Laser AF, OIS
          vs
          12.2 MP, f/1.7, 27mm, (wide), 1/2.55", 1.4µm, dual pixel PDAF, OIS

    • ? 6a is not a successor to the 6/6 Pro. The a line is a separate line.

  • -3

    Is this deal that good?

The Telstra phone plan seems pretty bad. $70 per month for 8 GB a month (or is it 100GB per month??)

I would say the phone plan is comparable to an aldi $25 pm plan, so you are spending an extra $45 per month, or $540. This makes the phone cost more like $940 ($400 plus $540 extra on the plan).

A good deal if you were about to buy the phone outright, but is it that special? What am I missing?

    • +2

It is definitely 100GB per month

      • Thanks that definitely makes it better!

    • If I just need a $10 pm plan, I spend extra $59 pm, $708 for the 12 months. The cost is 708+399 = 1107

    • It's 60GB/month, with 40GB of bonus data in the first month.

    • You're not wrong that as a plan itself it's terrible. It's good when they offer $500 voucher and 10 credit a month bringing it to $59 a month or $708 a year. Take off the gift cart it's only $17 a month and you can claim the full $59 as a tax deduction if relevant.

I value the plan as being worth $35 a month so really you're only walking away with $200 profit over the year.

    • Yea it really depends if you must have Telstra or not. You definitely end up paying a hefty premium over the other big two and the rest of the MVNOs. So it is only a good deal if you really NEED to have the coverage and stuff like VoLTE and 5G.

  • Battery life as usual with google phones is terrible.

    • +2

      Define terrible

      • Not great

      • -3

Half of iphone 13 pro Max battery life in terms of screen ontime even with 800mah more battery size. That's terrible

        • Objectively, that's a $1700 phone you're comparing it to. In terms of using the device, it's got pretty normal battery life. And weighs less to boot.

  • Reading through all the comments - Return the phone after 19secs and potentially receive a JB gift card for $1049 (128GB Phone).
So once gift card is in hand can i then cancel the plan and pay out Maximum ETC of $414 as per the $69 plan T&C's ?

$1049 gift card value - $414 ETC = $635 profit or have i completely stuffed up ! lol

    *Edit- Nope think I've stuffed up $635 - $399 i already paid = $236 profit … hmmmm

    • There’s also this to note:

$414 (plus any Voucher Reimbursement Cancellation Fees (if applicable)

      • Seen that, but my thinking is that only applies to Gift card voucher that is listed under the ETC in the T&C's document .

    • The “voucher cancelation fees” would apply.

Essentially the phone is paid with a voucher (gift card) and your $399 contribution.

  • How can I make this happen if I have an existing post paid plan with Telstra? Can I switch from whatever plan I have now to this? I’m 20 months into a 24 month iPhone 12 Contract.

    • You can get a whole new number. The $69 deal will still be applied. I know, I did it today.

      • Did you try or were you going to try to merge the two accounts and keep your old number? If so, was it successful?

  • +2

The Woolworth 365day prepaid is well enough for me. Also, I would lose unused credit on my current prepaid plan. If I don't consider the unused credit anyway, the plan worths $150. The phone cost $1227 - $150 = $1077.

So better buy it outright for me.

  • Waiting for the Pixel 6's to flood gumtree. Some deals to be had there if folks don't want the handset and can sell for >$399.

  • +3

PSA - Refunds for the phone for change of mind are NOT ALLOWED, JB Hifi staff informed me of this (unprompted) when signing up.

    Just a heads up

    • Did you sign up? What does the receipt look like? How will they know if you signed up with the deal?

      • +1

I think it will be the standard receipt with the phone price of $1049

    • I mean based off their refund policy they should do it, can understand staff giving grief over it especially if forewarned.

    • I got this tonight, was told as long as the seals on the box are unopened, it can be returned for change of mind.

    • They likely will do the refund anyway

  • Hey guys, I seem to recall that JB Hi-fi only do the phone plans sign-ups for certain/set hours of the day…. I cant seem to find this on their website.

Anyone know what time they offer this phone plan sign-up during their business hours/days please?

    • +3

Ex JB here - you can do it at any time of the day

      • Legend, thank you!

  • I might wait for some good price pixel 6 on marketplace. There will be plenty of them in the next few days. Just got off the jbhifi plan last week, not keen and also not eligible for it anyways.

  • +8

If you sign up for this deal definitely have a chat with a Telstra representative about receiving port in credit. Was able to achieve a $20 port in discount via online chat earlier this afternoon. Reducing the price from $69 a month to $49.
Worth asking for in my opinion, even if you are told no at first, second or third attempt.

    • Just wondering what line you took on this? Have been trying but it's been difficult to convince any of the reps it's possible :/

      • +6

Just mentioned that I had friends and family in the past who had been offer a $20 port in credit in that past. I must have been very lucky! I'll PM you more details.

        • Keen to know too. I tried but was told to speak to JB hi-fi by the Telstra rep

        • +1

Could you please pm me on the details too? Cheers!

        • +1

Hello. Keen to also know your ways if you could PM me that would be great.

        • Would be happy with a PM as well on this. Thanks.

          • @affinity: Just tried To PM you but you must not have private messages enabled.

            • @speirsy76: Okay, just realized that it was blocked, but I've now unblocked it. Please try again.

        • Hello! Could you please pm me on the details too? Cheers!

        • Would you mind sending me a PM too please? :)
