  • What's with these cashbacks and Harvey Norman, looking for a tri band wifi 6 mesh system, hope they do one for that😅

Gerry is a genius. This way Amazon is afraid to price match him.

  • Do you still get the $300 gift card if you pay with gift cards?

    • Yes. Happened to me buying online with gift card.

  • Onboard ram mean soldered ram and cannot be upgrade?

  • +5

I would've bought it if the ram was upgradable.

    • +4

Good luck finding a laptop under 1kg with upgradable ram

    • +1

      ram was upgradable.

I pulled the trigger on an MSI Modern 14 on Amazon last week. It has 2x DIMM slots so I chucked my 2x 8gb 3200 in there for now, but it can go up to 32gb according to my quick googling.

The specs on this HP and the $300 voucher makes me think I missed out on a bargain though.

  • +1

Really good buy. Very light, good battery, particularly good screen and quality build. RAM is the only neg.

    • usb-c charging?

      • +2

Yes, refer to the specifications I already posted

"1 SuperSpeed USB Type-C® 10Gbps signaling rate (USB Power Delivery, DisplayPort™ 1.4, HP Sleep and Charge"

  • Bought this for the wife for her continuing studies 3 days ago, with the gift card etc. my only sadness was they wouldn't match the online price from HP website (I think was $899) while still applying the $300 gift card. Still seemed like the better deal. She's stoked, it's light and the screen is honestly very nice.

  • Anyone aware of any shopback, cash rewards, or similar offers that would work with this?

  • Resolution 1080p or 1440p? Website says 1440p. Also does it has backlight keyboard?

    • +3

I would always trust the HP page over that what hn says.

      33.8 cm (13.3") diagonal, WQXGA (2560 x 1600), IPS, micro-edge, anti-glare, 400 nits, 100% sRGB

      Full-size, backlit, natural silver keyboard

      • Thank you! Then this deal is not too bad. But 8 GB ram limits it to a web browsing only machine though. It really would be perfect if it is a16GB model.

        • Grabbed one today. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it. It's obvious that it's not a gong machine, as an ultraportable for everyday tasks it's really great

      • Note that there are two screen available. HN only sells the one with 1920*1200 display, not the QHD version.

        • +1

Nope, mine is 2560x1600. Have it in front of me

          • @dosada: No worries, that's what the store sales rep told me.

            • +1

@shellshocked: They are as brain-dead as the guys writing the adds on their page. My local shop had one displayed and checked it already there in the settings before buying it.

The sticker did say 1920x1200 though, even if the unit was 2560x1600

              • @dosada: Did you have the keyboard inprinting screen issue as described below?

                • @theabyss: No, not yet. But wouldn't surprise me with time as it's pretty thin

                  • @dosada: Well, looks like still worth a try. I should go to a Harvey to try my luck.

  • WHY solder the f-ing RAM? RAM goes bad and then what? C'mon, 2 slots would cost them what, $20? I'd be down for that. It's ridiculous that the CPU can use more, but the maker strangles it.

    • -1

Because this way they can charge you hundreds of dollars more for a similar laptop with more or upgradeable memory

      • +2

Because you try and fit a SoDIMM slot into a base that is <1cm in thickness along with the keyboard / casing while still trying to get it under 1kg.

Better question to ask is why 8GB only? Considering most flagship phones these days have more RAM than this computer. If it had 16GB, would have bought it in a heartbeat.

        • Better question to ask is why 8GB only?

Yea, 8gb really just seems so limited. It's probably more than enough for most people though, but no ability to upgrade really takes the appeal away.

          • @jigna27: Not really. Have you seen how much RAM that Chrome takes up when you have a few windows or tabs opened? lol. 8GB these days goes very quickly when Windows itself already hogs up 4GB or so. 8GB is what 4GB was about 4 years ago being the "minimum" you'd want to buy a computer with.

            • @bchliu:

Chrome takes up when you have a few windows or tabs opened? lol.

You're probably right. I'm a bit of a dictator when it comes to closing unnecessary tabs so it's never really a big factor. But a "standard" user might unknowingly have a multiple windows open with 10s of tabs in each.

** Buyer beware ** Would recommended staying away from this laptop at all costs tbh. Purchased yesterday from Harvey Norman. Opened up today and found the Keyboard Imprint issue all over the screen. Every single keyboard key was "burnt" into the display.

Immediately took it back to Harvey Normans who offered a replacement. I decided to play it smart and have the HN Tech guy open up the box in front of me before deciding to head home first. So he opened the replacement up and what do you know.. Exact same issue. HN Tech guy was absolutely puzzled, so went to open another replacement. What do you know, same issue again!

We went through 4 replacements before he gave up and said he's going to get the HP rep in because this is ridiculous. He decided to do one last ditch effort and called another local HN store up to get them to open one of their stock as he was suspicious this was widespread. Well, same exact issue LOL.

Got a full refund and will be buying a different laptop. Such a shame as this laptop ticked all the boxes….

I would be very careful to anyone who buys this laptop. I think it's an actual design flaw with the keyboard physically touching the screen when closed and pressure applied (even if it's brand new in the box). Not sure how HP let this out of the warehouse tbh

    • This laptop is really perfect in other countries. In US and China default spec is 16GB ram with all other things the same. It has gold/white/silver colour and 6 spec options( customisation also available). In Australia we don’t even get the 16GB model even if you have money to spread. And 8GB model is not available in these countries unless you customize it to be. What a shame! I fall in love with this laptop only to find HP dropping shit in Australia. And no the issue you mentioned is not seen in other countries.

    • Are you able to tell me what Harvey Norman store you went to. Looking at past deals on the Aero, not everyone seems to experience the keyboard imprint issue. There could be some faulty ones out there.

      • Harvey Norman Capalaba. Yeah could just be a big batch that was faulty. I just wanted to give people a heads up on my experience. I also read online of the issue occuring after a few weeks or months of ownership. Seems like a big headache to deal with

    • +2

I just got mine yesterday, i didn't get the issue (this post made me go back and spent 5 min youtubing white screens lol). Seems like a bad batch. I purchased from WA.

Albeit buying online from harvey norman is such a pain if you have issues. They are not the same as the individual harvey norman shops.

It was the perfect laptop to claim for work purposes as its inflated high price with $300 harvey norman gift card. On top of being able to claim the full $998 on tax, im even going to claim the 10% back from TRS.

  • I thought this deal will be popular given the excellent display WQXGA (2560 x 1600), IPS, micro-edge, anti-glare, 400 nits, 100% sRGB
I presume 8 GB Ram is the only negative factor but should be a good value for $700 after GC

    • +1

My experience from posting multiple deals on Ozbargain over the years, is to never expect people to think the same way you do in terms of what value is. Sometimes deals are popular and but the number of people actually buying are still low.

      • I thought is a good value and recommended it to a friend who owns small business given the tax invoice is for $999

  • Received today! Does the gift card come separately? It wasn't in the same package. Or on line?

    • +1

I phone a Samsung S21 from HN a month ago and the gift card came with the package
