yes …5G, faster processor 128gb ram and an oled screen and more ….. has android 11 will get 12 and 13 ……

      • just to clarify it has 6gb ram and 128gb internal storage?

        • yes 6gb ram and 128gb rom…. has android 11, mine upgraded to may security patch … pity no android 12 for it yet ….

  • +1

the only good mobile network is telstra and ones that back off it. I use ALDIMobile, i dont get 5G but thats because i wear a tin foil hat

    • Depends where you live. Vodafone I find works better around my suburb. Optus is the worst though.

  • Went to shop today and bought Moto Edge 20 for my daughter. The staff do manual override of the price.
Good screen, and no bloatware. Does the job.
Come with usb c - usb c cable and 30w charger

    • Is the camera really that bad as complain from the reviews?

      • +4

camera seems fine …. maybe some people think they are ansel adams or annie leibovitz in which case you wouldn’t be using phone to take photos …. cameras on phone depend on 2 things ….the quality of the sensor and lens which they can’t fix …..and software which they update and refine and when people compare you need to look at the software version build revision running at the time …..

      • Camera is ok for social media upload, but if you zoom in, you can see lots of artefacts.
But I only tested indoor. I think for outdoor during daylight it will perform much better.

I also read somewhere that using Gcam produce much better result, but I personally haven't tried

Hold up. Are you saying you managed to get the Edge 20 knocked down to the same price as the Edge 20 Fusion?

  • Hmmm, am I the only one who finds the Moto horrible to use because of the over-sensitive keyboard and the near-useless proximity sensor (i.e cheek pressing random things on phone - usually the mute button)? Maybe I just got a dud one although I'm sure I read someone else here had the same problem.

    • most phones in this league are capacitive screens which aren’t pressure sensitive, for pressure sensitive need to get into iphone price category …..i find screen size makes a difference in what seems sensitive keys is just due to small keys on the screen ……

    • -1

no, not only you but I got negative vote for pointed it out, because the heat temperature it's always restart itself when I am talking on the phone, I heard "hello moto " happened a few times when I am on call.

  • So, is spending 506 aud more in the upcoming Pixel 6a worth it over the Motorola Edge 20 Fusion?

It's such a huge difference that it feels like a no-brainer, but I am a bit concerned about reports that the proximity sensor in the Motorola is not great and might cause issues during calls (and of course, only 1 year left of android/security patches).

  • Anyone know if the Motorola Edge 20 Fusion comes with a case in the box?

    • +2

It should come with a jelly case already installed.

      • +1

        Awesome thanks for the reply!

      • …a jelly case sounds delicious. I'm getting this phone lmao was wondering about case too glad to hear it comes with!

    • comes with jelly case in the box

  • This is very tempting but I'm holding on to my previous JB hifi deal LG V50 the last dying swan

    Best audio, free second screen

Cannot be matched by Pixel 5 or iPhone 12 on that regard which I also own

  • Will the edge 20 fusion be an upgrade over my pixel 2xl?

    • Nope. Especially downgrade in camera.

  • +1

Thanks. Just price matched the Edge 20 Fusion at Officeworks for $236.

  • Does anyone know if I was to grab this deal and then try Telstra for a discounted monthly rate for porting in and I was denied, is there a way to get back out once signing up?

Basically like a grace period to try my luck at getting less than $69/month

  • +2

That's a fantastic price for the Edge 20 Fusion.

Brilliant screen, great battery life and quite speedy for the price.

Although the camera is very finnicky and the 108 megapixels are shackled to an average main camera. So it isn't as great quality as supposedly advertised. You can take some great shots but the lighting and focus has to be on point. Otherwise the colours in the picture you take will be washed out. Macro mode isn't too bad and there is a slight boost in quality using GCam, but if a great camera is a dealbreaker then I'd look elsewhere.

The sound quality is a little below par from the individual speaker but if you're using bluetooth/earphones it's irrelevant.

    • Main concern, as usual, is Motorola's terrible software support.

There is only one year of security updates left for the phone.

      • Yeah 1 year worth of updates is not good. you need longer 2-3 years minimum, unless of course you go via the route of Custom Firmware….

Too much time to fiddle around unroot bootloader and doing so.

The only one I did was LG G4 and Nexus 7 (its still working from 2014 with poor battery)

      • 1 year base on what info from Motorola ???
it's 2021 release phone, they do 3 years of security and 2 years min of android, shipped with android 11 android 12 is already shipping in some locations so question might be will it get 13 and when …. and it has 2 years of security updates left min.

        • It's 2 years security and 2 years Android updates for this phone I believe, it was released in August 2021, so one year left.

    • Can you point me towards a GCam apk download? Would like to try it out on my E20F. Thanks

    • Searching for my mum. What would you recommend for a better camera for 300 or less? The Realms support zoom was 300 recently. I think she would like the novelty of that zoom. Not sure if we'll ever see that special again though.

      • I hope you find her.

        • She was in the laundry, I never look there!

After using this for a day I agree with this. Camera is decent - a bit tough to get good shots on indoor light, but definitely not the utter disaster some reviewers are saying it is. Don't pixel peep and you'll be largely fine.

The rest of the phone is surprisingly really solid! The big surprises for me were:

      • Performance - surprisingly didn't chug when Google Play was pulling down ~50 apps. And no stutters since either.
      • Screen - large and in charge. Very crisp. If this is "budget" OLED I'm having a hard time telling what's wrong with it (at least by eye)
      • Battery - restoring from backups, installing heaps of apps and lots of screen time setting everything up and I'm still above 60%

It really is a steal for $250. Man budget phones are really kicking it nowadays!

      • Could you test a few things?
        - Have you noticed the proximity sensor failing when on calls?
        - Does wifi disconnect easily?
        - What's the date of the latest security patch?
        - Is it updated to Android 12? Most people are still in 11 and those in12 say it's a buggy mess.

        • +1

          From a couple of days' use;
          No problem with the proximity sensor on the few calls I have had so far;
          No problem with Wifi;
          Last security patch is dated 1 May 22;
Still on Android 11. I am in no screaming rush to go to 12, as long as the security is OK

        • +1

          My results:

          • I haven't noticed an issue with the proximity sensor, only have had 2 calls so far though
          • No wifi disconnect issues at all. My house wifi is 5GHz only to avoid the crowded 2.4GHz spectrum and have not noted any speed or connection issues on either AP.
          • Security patch at 1 May 2022, Google Play system update at 1 Jun 2022
          • On Android 11 - I'm not even being offered Android 12. I'm in no rush though as I don't actually like 12… That's what spurred me to try an iPhone in the first place.

It seems like quite a few negative reviews for the Moto were prior to software updates, as a few other reviews have noted the phone has gotten pretty good on the latest patches.

I've bit the bullet and ordered one for delivery today. Here's hoping those patches do help it!

People are wanting a Ferrari at Toyota camry prices these days, unreal.

    • yeah if I can cut the stalks off like Broccoli I would do it, no remorse (j/k)

    • -1

One expect both a Toyota and a Ferrari to be safe to use after one year.

With this Motorola, it´s not the case. =)

Just got the S22 today and chatted to telstra from their website - asked for the $20pm port in credit and they applied it within 5 minutes.

    So definitely still works.

    • Damn, congrats!

What reason did you give? I'm trying to do the same but have been shut down once so far, so maybe I'm asking the wrong way.

Was it on the $69/month plan?

      • Yeah - I just told them I ported in today - they asked me if it was a JB Hifi plan, I said yes and then they applied the credit without much hassle.

        • Sorry guys new here. What's the go with the $20pm port in credit? What exactly do you say to telstra to get this? And the reason they would do it? I've been waiting ages for the s22 plus to drop but it's still a rip off unfortunately. Thank you

  • Telstra have a $68 per month plan starting today which includes 180 GB of data.

Picked up the Motorola unit, decent for the price.

    • Does it come with a screen protector installed?

      • +2

No, it doesn't. I won't use one anyway.
Comes with a jelly Case, 30w charging brick and the cable.

  • How is the Motorola vs the Redmi Note 9 Pro?

Just found this in an earlier post it apparently helps picture quality. Hope it helps.

    Nikita NGCam_8.2.300-v1.5

In options/advanced/experimental, enable pref_mediatek_key, this fixes nightsight crash

In lib patcher/first lens/global options, set Chroma denoise to 0.5 and Luma to 0.125, and sharpness to 0.125. This fixes the horrid waxy look.

Viewfinder framerate is a bit slow on all GCam's I've tried, but output is good. Slow-mo crashes too but that never seems to work well on GCam ports.

    Available here https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev…

    • Thanks for this! The photos are much more palatable without the horrible sharpening applied by the stock camera.

Night Sight still crashes for me with or without that MediaTek key setting… Shame, that'd be killer if it worked.

Got my dad to pickup the Moto edge fusion 20 for my mum to replace her aging budget Moto e6 plus. Massive upgrade. We only paid 70 odd less on the e6 a few years ago.

Seems pretty responsive, 90hz screen is nice and the oled is vibrant. Haven't tried the camera but she only uses it here and there anyway. Not a heavy camera user.

Perfect for parents with aging phones methinks! It's big but that's sometimes a plus so you can increase the text size. You know how they love their large text size! :P.

    • +1

      Same use case here.

Aging parent with failing eyesight. More screen real estate + larger font = Win.

Upgrade from my hand-me-down Redmi 4X (a great cheap phone when I got it!).

      • +1

if i didnt drop and break my 4X i'd still be using it.
I need to upgrade my phone real bad (no more xiaomi for me) - im hoping prime day would be worth the wait.

PIcked it up as a first phone for high school aged son, at $250 if it gets trashed it isn't too big an outlay.

If he wants a better camera he's welcome to buy his own.

signed up for the $69 plan today, was told on chat before i signed up i will get a $20 credit per month. signed up then got on chat and told jb hifi needs to do it instore and its not there problem. Feeling abit ripped off rn

  • Replaced my old Vodafone prepaid Huawei Ascend Y550 that I’ve had for years with the Motorola edge 20 fusion-$249 is a steal.

Officeworks had the Edge 20 Fusion for $247, $2 less than JB though my local store, Southport was OOS so I bought my Edge from JB instead.

No sign of Android 12 yet for the Motorola Edge 20 Fusion or the G50 which I got from a previous deal here on OzB.

Loving the camera on the 20 Fusion-mine’s the Cyber Teal.

  • Motorola Edge 20 Fusion which has a Mediatek 800u which I have found is basically the same performance but a fraction slower then the 700. I find these naming conventions confusing from Mediatek.

    • It benchmarks faster than the 700. "In top titles, game launch times are up to 1.4s faster than Dimensity 700 series, while benchmark scores are up to 11% faster in CPU and 28% faster in GPU performance."

  • +1

Agree with most comments here. Great phone for the price.

If the camera is so important to some people, why not just get … a camera?

    • +1

Ever heard of the saying “the best camera is the one that's with you"?
I have a mirrorless camera and yet I rarely take it out anymore just because it's far easier to just use a smartphone camera and good enough for me 90% of the time.

      • -1

And you regard yourself as a photographer? That can't be bothered carrying a camera? OK then.

        • +1

Horse for courses mate, if you want to take it that far why don't you carry everything and the kitchen sink with you because why not if you "can't be bothered carrying" the real deal. Why not carry a dedicated music player with a full on DAC set up, why not carry one of these behemoths instead of a plain folding knife?

Also no I never said or implied that, if every person out there with a mirrorless camera regarded themselves as a "photographer" there would be no need for people dedicated to the profession you'd just ask dave down the road with one to rock up with his for your wedding/photoshoot. The only occasion I bother to bring it now is if I want to play with long exposure stuff for astrophotography and even that's starting to be within the realm of possibility of phone cameras.
