Booking.com - 14% Upsized Cashback on Hotels via Shopback AU

353

Great deal IMO better than the last Expedia deal of 14% because booking.com has GENIUS DISCOUNT (on some hotels) and IMO some hotels have something extra on booking.com than Expedia (like sleeps 1 extra person or cheaper rate or cheaper food etc).

Also great for those hotels that require NO UPFRONT PAYMENT, and NO cancellation fee until a certain date.
I strongly recommend everyone to do a screen recording of their session in case the tracking fails or something.
I was waiting a while for this kinda deal and finally it is here, after missing out CR deal on 14th.
Ends Saturday midnight.
Also You might notice the price for some hotels going up (when clicking through an affiliate link i.e. via SB/CR etc.). This is not to blame on SB/CR but that is just what Booking.com does. Good news is that, not all hotels are affected by it.

Important to note:
The ShopBack affiliate link logo should appear in all pages throughout the transaction, if it doesn't restart your purchase from SB website/app.

Tracking is quite quick too surprisingly enough.

Beware of cashback from booking.com. Sometimes it's genuine, but the last time I added cashback of 10%, the page reloaded, and the price had gone up 20%. I went back on another device without cash back and the price went back down.

Super dodgy behavior that prices go up when going through cashback.

  • +2

Second the dodgy behaviour - Booking.com inflate many prices when clicking through from an affiliate link.
It's deceptive and means this is not a deal.
Many people may unwittingly think they are getting a better deal when they are not.

On some deals. I booked a hotel last week @6% Cashback for $259. Just got same hotel for $249 @14% Cashback so cancelled the initial booking and rebooked.

    • I noticed this myself. I go through the booking app via SB and i find prices are better.

  • +3

I just booked a Mercure hotel. Price was showing up as $151 without cashback and $151 with cashback. Great deal.

    • The 9 star hotel I was looking at had genius discount to make it even better
$166.5 with Breakfast (for 3 people) and $20.19 Cashback * 2 So 6 people were only $292.62 (with breakfast after CB)
      ($149 per room without breakfast)

Booked a hotel through booking.com earlier this month.
Went through shopback for this offer through to booking.com to take a look at prices based on the negative comments above and was able to book the same room at the same hotel for $50 cheaper than what I originally booked it for. Got the tracking so all happy here. Cancelled original booking.

  • Yes they, along with some other booking sites, definitely jack price for cashback….

It's a bit hard to describe in a comment but by applying the SB Chrome extension and opening up multiple tabs I can get the cheaper (regular) price and the cashback.

  • I have booked a hotel via Agoda during their 12% cb but always check multiple sites/methods to make sure I get the best price. For the same hotel it is $200 more via booking.com, although the price did not vary via sb or direct into booking.com. With a lot of the cashback deals u have to search around to make sure you are not paying your own cashback.

It’s so dumb when booking.com, Agoda, Priceline and kayak are the same company

      • +1

even the variation between those sites in what is available as free cancellation, included breakfast. I did end up emailing the hotel direct to see if they can do better, but no response after a week.

    • But check the rooms because a cheaper stay may indicate they are offering a cheaper room or no breakfast etc..

  • "Booking.basic reservations are not applicable for Cashback"
What does this mean? I want to book (ie reserve) a room for 1 night for 2 pax… can a booking get any more basic and thus I'm not eligible for cashback?

    • Yeah I am kinda confused on that too (and have asked GYB on this, But I dont think he works on weekends anymore).
I have booked my reservation, and I got Cashback tracked.
However the GST/VAT was excluded from CB, so its actually more like 12-13% of the total amount spent.
I am guessing "Booking.basic" is different to Booking.com ? Like a different site (partner site of booking.com).

  • I do recall reading an article saying these websites give you pricing depending on your device as well, so definitely check things like, mobile vs PC, affiliate link vs search, logged in vs incognito etc. I've definitely found price discrepancies in the past for the same hotel and room before.

    • With Booking.com, only difference arises from affiliate link vs non affiliate/direct link.

With other websites definitely the case, like Agoda, Trip.com etc.

      • definitely the case with Booking.com also.
I just used a browser got $497 price, then used the mobile and got a 'mobile-only price' of $447….

  • Does anyone know if Cashback is eligible on multiple bookings?

    • I have made multiple booking Today, so if i have to cancel one I can easily cancel that one and still keep other ones,

Nothing in T&C's saying a CAP or only for 1 transaction.

My cashback has tracked for all bookings.

    • I made 2 bookings today. Both tracked through shopback.

  • Does anyone know when this shopback offer expires?

    • Ends Saturday midnight.

      Tonight.

  • Thanks!

  • Booked through Shopback for booking.com during a recent 14% promotion, the confirmation email showed "In partnership with Shopback" but Shopback claim to have no record (even after sending the invoice showing "In partnership with Shopback"!) and will not pay out the cashback.

Only noticed it hadn't tracked shortly before my stay, but was told by the Shopback rep that it's been too long and I won't receive the cashback.
It was over $50 of cashback, so I'm pretty salty, especially as it was still within the period that Cashrewards would have investigated and provided the cashback had I booked through them.

      Did you follow recommendation ?

I strongly recommend everyone to do a screen recording of their session in case the tracking fails or something.

      • -1

No, I didn't follow the description of this deal posted today when I did my purchase in the past.

I did send proof that the purchase was done via Shopback however (the click through was recorded, and the retailer provided proof that the order was placed via Shopback) but the evidence was ignored due to it being outside of the window to report.

Obviously as OzBargainers may know, Just want to share, this happened to me but in addition to that, there's always conveniently some reason or another that your cashback with cashrewards and shopback never gets approved due to some technicality. It feels like its a waste of time, they are making squillons off your affiliate clicking then virtually never pay up. I cbf even bothering with it anymore.
