The eBay listing doesn't mention the "4G Celluler" that you've pasted above. Please can you confirm whether LTE is included?

    • +6

      Hi yes LTE included.

  • Ram upgrade available?

    • +1

Seems this model is released with either 8GB or 16GB soldered to the board with no socket for upgrade:
      https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/ThinkPad/ThinkPad_X…

      • +1

        well that really sucks!

        • +7

Would have been an ok deal if it had upgradable RAM, but not so much with 8GB soldered RAM.

          • +5

@opt: Agreed. Was prepared to purchase if I could get it to 16GB.

  • +2

will definitely improve your productivity at home, school or work.

    Sweet I don't know how but I'm in………

  • +2

This is really good, I've got a ThinkPad with the 8250U, but not a touch screen or LTE.

All you need is a second 8GB DIMM (I think 2400Mhz) & possibly upgrade the storage, not sure if it has a second M.2.

Edit: Looks like it might be non upgradable RAM, that downgrades it to a portable web browser, but with LTE & the ThinkPad design it's still alright.

  • Any X1 carbon with gen 8 Intel?

    • I've had a gen 8 Intel X1 carbon since new and still using it everyday.. easy 40-50hrs use every week since new

      • Agree they are excellent. Don’t need Yoga so prefer the lighter X1 carbon.

      • +1

dont upgrade. I sold my x1 carbon gen 6 and got the new x1 carbon yoga latest gen…. always stuck in high performance mode even i disable it and go to battery saver mode.

80 degrees - 100 degrees at all times. Burning my legs and everything i put under the laptop.

Bought 3 of the same model to test if it was a once off… it wasnt.

i7 and intel Gen 12 is no good

        • Thanks, will wait till next year

  • +3

    These are terrific laptops

  • +1

how does this compare to a macbook air m1?

    • +5

Best to ask the genius bar at an Apple store

    • m1 doesnt have a sd card reader

    • +10

Different kettle of fish even if you ignore the OS.

X1 Yoga is a premium niche product because it includes:
      - Touch screen (built in stylus)
      - Convertible into a tablet mode
      - well rated for dust and water resistance
      - upgradeable storage (SSD and MicroSD)
      - HDMI, USB-A, USB-C and SD card ports
      - 1.3 kg ("ultralight" for a Windows Laptop)

Worth the original price (above 2k) if you like these features. e.g. Uni student who goes from class to class and needs to type, write notes and sketch diagrams. Or corporate managers who need to move around a lot.

Water resistance is way underrated until a cup of liquid spills and splashes nearby. The more mobile the owner is, the higher the risks of splashes nearby.

If these are not relevant features, you probably want something else. Plenty of other options for more grunt or lower prices.

Youre kinda compaing apples to oranges and it depends on what you use your PC for. Are you a musician with expectancy on musical software? then mac is the way to go for example.

    • +3

A better question is what do you intend on doing with the laptop?

The other reply already covers the X1 pretty well.

For basic home use, this would be fine and offer much better value than the M1.

      The M1 MBA has:

      • faster processor
      • fanless
      • better screen(brighter, colour)
      • better battery life
      • Integration with other Apple products (eg, I use my iPad as a second screen on occasion)
      • Support

You'll probably require a usb-c hub to connect it to anything else as it only has two usb-c ports.

I think sleep is better implemented on MacOS. I leave mine on all the time and charge it about once a week. I've never been able to do that on my previous windows laptops.

Being completely silent is also great and reduced maintenance.

I've also found MacOS to be better OOTB, require less configuration and be generally more stable. One downside I've found is that free software isn't as good as on windows.

  • Struggling to find reviews of these specific specs, anyone have any hands on experience?

    • +1

there are some youtube videos about it. it's 2018 model

      • Yeah just watched a few, sadly they are all mostly using the top spec model

        • +2

for the price, it's a good laptop I think. However, it's 2022 now and better display as well as better camera expected

          • +1

@adms: Better camera on a laptop? I thought we were still using tech from 2010.

  • +2

Isn't this laptop too old? It looks like those laptops from a business that upgraded their laptops and old ones are for sale as refurb.

    • +2

No? The brand new $3000 top of the line Thinkpads use the same exact design and are well respect for being rugged/good quality and fast. The specs/price on these deals is pretty good. If you need a laptop to do anything besides gaming/intensive stuff they will be just as good as much pricier stuff.

      • -1

Nobody buys the latest $3000 top of the line thinkpads. It's not a brand that focuses on being rugged anymore, and now tries to compete with macbooks for some reason

        • Re: "Nobody buys the latest $3000 top of the line thinkpads." Wow that is not just a statement but a revelation about yourself!! Read again.

        • Agree with the competing with MacBook. Some of the ThinkPad lines feel super flimsy.

Disagree that the nobody buys them. ThinkPad sales are pretty good.

    • That's exactly what this is, where do you think they came from haha

  • +1

if the price is $399 or $400 I would order.

  • -3

The currently the X1 is Gen 10 so this laptop is 7 years old

    • +1

i5-8250u release date is August 2017. It seems this laptop is 2018 model. So, it's 4 years old (or 4 and half)

      • The 8250U is in my 2019 ThinkPad.

      • -1

        Agreed

    • +4

You are referring to X1 Carbon.
      This is X1 Yoga (convertible)

  • +1

Battery condition? I'd be worried if it's a 3-4 year old lappy

    • +1

Yeah I want to buy but I need to know if it had got a new battery in it or the old 4 year old battery

      • +1

Same here. Want one but the battery life could be an issue…

  • +2

Damn this would be perfect if the ram wasn't soldered on.

  • Does anyone have feedback on how user friendly they are or ergonomic for children? Wondered if the red thing in centre of keyboard or the trackpad buttons being upside down create a learning curve.

    • +1

Keyboard is great, but they do switch the control and fn keys on the bottom left which can be annoying if you're not used to it. The mouse pad itself is clickable. Kids will pick it up.

      • +1

I have had to switch them around in the bios because of muscle memory when typing.

      • +1

For the life of me, I cannot understand why Lenovo does this. Sh!ts me everyday, as I have a Lenovo for work and can't switch around the keys.

        • The bios in your work laptop locked? If not you can switch them around there.

        • You can also switch it around using the vantage app

  • +1

This is a fantastic laptop, we are still using the previous gen (i5 gen 7) of the listed model at work (some of them are working 5 years), and only now are switching to the latest model. We have them leased, so these might be the ones where lease is ended up.

I love to have plenty of open tabs and applications, where it reaches regularly 100% memory and CPU usage, but it still does the job well, including connection to two screens and even handling AutoCAD when required.

It is very light and rigid, with good battery life.

Also as it has the limited number of ports, a dock or a dongle with a few extra ports are recommended.

  • +1

    How about battery?

    • youtube reviews show 4-8 hours battery life.

  • -4

price is good but we need full hd camera, better display (at least 2K) and 16gb ram. this model's ram isn't upgradable.

    • +4

      lol

    • Agreed. Would happily pay up to $460 for those specs.

    • You know 1080p is 2K right? The industry has accepted it's the same.

  • How much are the off lease Refurbished Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 6 or Gen 7

  • thank you, got one

  • +2

How does this compare to the T580 / T480S deal? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/715664

Both are touchscreen but have different size RAM and CPU.

    • +2

      Very similar performance.
I own and use the T580 daily for 3 years now, from new. Great machine and can't fault it still today, slightest gripe is the older Thunderbolt port. At that price it was a steal.
The T480S was also an awesome deal, I grabbed a couple of the T490S and they have been amazing, they keep pace with office use.
Can't really go wrong at this price point. Just always be careful of the model having soldered or only 1 ram slot, everything else is upgradable.
This is the only reason I am not buying this deal. If it was 16Gb, I'd grab 2 machines.

    • +1

The other laptop has upgradable ram.

This has 8250u which is properly supported by Windows 11.

  • Do the Lenovo X1 touch screens run hot?

I bought the Asus Zenbook Flip and the Dell XPS 2 in 1 and both get hot, noisy and become unusable because they freeze up and become unresponsive.
    Very disappointing.

    • I think you should thank Intel for that!

  • Would this laptop run animation software like blender?

    • +2

I don't think it will really well as it doesn't have a graphics card.

  • OOS

  • Thanks OP. Interested in one, do you have any more in stock? Shows OOS

  • +3

Hinge on mine broke after a couple years the build quality isnt the best if you want to use it everyday. Its also quite heavy to use in tablet and i would want the 3k version if i was going to use the pen for anything creative.

  • +2

    Is there any more stock?

    • I’m keen to know if more stocks available soon too.

  • Same - would like more stock

  • +1

Just got mine. Well packed, but the unit itself looks like somebody repeatedly played football with it - covered in scratches and scuffs and the mousepad almost worn through, not to mention the shine of years of use on the keys. Plus, a huge immovable sticker on the lid lest you assail it with megatonnes of goo remover. Lesson sadly learned. :(

    • Lol that's sad. I wonder if they are all like that

I was debating to get one just to use as a spare

    • +1

Good - sign of normal use, some scratches/blemishes/wear can be expected.

Would you say it matches the condition from the listing?

    • Got mine. Overall ok condition. Was able to remove the sticker and residue with mayonnaise.

      • +1

        Lol wtf is this real?

        I thought just hot water

  • received mine and found the unit to be in a dirty dog condition. It looks like sands got onto the keyboard. 1 of the keys ("E") on the keyboard doesn't work at all. What a waste of time. This is the end of life used product that shouldn't be sold at all.

    • Interesting I would think that would break the consumer law guidelines.

Should be sold in a usable state and also must be match the advertising description

      • I agree but the general sellers's approach would be to sell them all to gain benefits disregard of the condition of the products. Consumers do expect usable used products in good condition but its not worth fighting for legal actions when the product is under $500. I'm returning mine.

        • +1

Yeah maybe it's just me but if something listed as second hand vs refurbished…

I imagine refurbished to be cleaned before being sold or in decent condition haha

Maybe it's just me. ..I didn't buy one in this instance

  • +2

I received the laptop yesterday, overall not too bad, but the battery cycle is 162, the capacity is around 90%. and there are lots of marks on the screen from the keyboard. I can understand this condition based on its age.
However there is one critical issue regarding the fingerprint reader. It's listed in the ebay description, but actually, I don't see it in BIOS and the device manager from Windows.
Probably damaged or missing part??? Anyone has the same issue here?

    • Hi mate it's our mistake that didn't make the description right. This model doesn't seems to have the finger print module. Please contact me thru ebay, I will make a partial refund based on that if this function is not necessary for you. Apologies.

    • I've got the same issue with mine - couldn't get the fingerprint reader to work.

    • How do you see the battery cycle and health status?

  • +1

Recieved mine. Condition is fine. Got it for the kids, but kinda like it myself..
