Cheapest sound system with CD & Digital Radio?

Im wanting the cheapest sound system solution that includes a digital radio. This is for a very small loungeroom so it doesnt need huge output. Im needing better more punchy sound from my lcd tv & the ability to play cds & digital radio without wifi. Im hoping i can get something under $150. Appreciate any advice.

  • Good Luck… I've not seen a DAB+ radio with inbuilt CD Player.
You'd be better off getting yourself an amplifier and speakers and then plugging in a DVD player to use as a CD player/DVD player and a cheap DAB+ radio if you indeed need DAB+, don't be fooled into thinking it's better than FM radio, cause it's clearly inferior (if you're familiar with mp3 terminology, DAB+ is encoded between 40-60kbps, typical wisdom says you need around 128kbps to eliminate most artifacts from encoding).
The advantages for DAB+ are solely:
    1) more stations
    2) AM stations are higher quality (no AM buzz) and in stereo.

  • Ah ha i see. Thanks for your wisdom i didnt know dig radio was low quality. i guess im now looking for a radio/cd setup with half decent speakers/sound also amplify the tv. Any ideas for ultra cheap under $100 solution?

    • Any mini system with an AUX input should do the job.
Or some computer speakers and a portable CD player/radio.

      • Cheers mate i think you are right. Im just wondering if speakers alone will get enogh amplification from the tv and if i go a hifi system instead will the speakers be good enough from a cheap setup.

    • My suggestion is before spending any dollars to ask around with family and friends to see if they have any sound systems that they don't need (ones with an AUX input at the back). You might be surprised how many audio systems a person can collect (eg. Mini CD players + micro HiFi + Surround sound AV receiver + iPod docking stations + computer speakers). A lot of people treat audio devices like disposable fashion accessories and toss them when they get bored. It's not a joke, have a read through the Ozbargain forums about how often people replacing their sub-$1000 flatscreen TV's.
