      • I hope it's not one of us D: looks around shadily at his fellow ozbargainers >.>

    • He buys rationally.
      We buy emotionally.
      That's all!!

  • So for someone who actually needs a powerful laptop… would any of the HN ultrabooks cut it? Are the higher end ones any decent at all?

    • How powerful?
The Samsung 900X looks pretty nice. Midrange i5 specs, but at least it's ivy bridge.

  • interesting..

  • +1

This deal is now published on the HN website with a link from the home page:
    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/promos/ripper-super-saturday?…

  • Got the toshiba u840 for $500 after cashback at Hobart store

  • went to garden city HN brisbane before the store opened the door to buy the acer s3-391 but they said all sold?? damn, are u kidding? how come you sold it before the store open? and they tried to sell me another ultrabook and 3yrs extended replacement warranty. No..no..no for me since they use hijacked price. Business trick hardly normal.

    • It could be that some bastard got the orders through online as opposed to going to the store first thing in the morning since Online procures directly from the store itself.

      • I was thinking to buy online the store stock as well and beat the crowd but a bit of gambling there since it says on the t&cs that the ultrabook should be bought "from a Harvey Norman complex", so purchase via online might be risky.I think you can argue if they don't honour it but don't want the hassle. Went to the store and get the last of Envy 6-1010TU

  • i thought the shops opened at 9am

    • 8am today..

  • Bought the last HP Envy 6-1010TU from Maribyrnong Harvey Norman at about 8:20am. Was the last one. Call your local store first before rocking up.

On a side note - HEAPS of staff and everyone is well educated on this deal.

  • WARNING Dont go to HN Castle Hill! They jacked up the price to 1199. Couple of blokes in front of me argued about the online price and the salesman just ignore them completely!

    • yes, HN Garden city brisbane as well HP Envy 6-1010TU $1199, so $200 mark up already. not worth it with the $500 cash back. Since you will see this ultrabook price will drop soon.

  • 3 in stock + 1 display toshiba for $999 at garden city 30 mins ago. Floor price 1299 alerted them of online price. Wouldn't discount further if bought two :(

  • +2

Lol im at hn now. 500 off the 1200 rrp of the acer s3. Damn scammers

    • +1

yes, that's why we call it HARDLY NORMAL

  • Went to watergarden store, bought the Toshiba U840-00Q for $999 before cashback. It had $1499 sticker on it but the guy looked up on his computer and I showed him price on Harvey Norman site so he did it for $999 no questions. Hopefully I will get the cashback now. Every model in store is clearly marked so shouldnt be any problems. Good luck.

    • +1

good on you, I tried to tell them the web price but they told me it's up to me which one you want choose, get web price or cash back $500 with RRP price? LoL

      • +1

Tell them you will take it up with head office on Monday. Their attitude will probably change.
Stores getting complaints to HO is actually taken pretty seriously.

  • +1

Just picked up a samsung 900x ivy bridge from HN Martin Place sydney CBD 13inch for $1447 with $500 cashback $947 for this machine is insane fantastic deal!!!

  • Went to HN Moorabin, they raised Acer U3 price to 999. Was arguing about price on web site 839 but they claimed that it would be impossible to receive a cashback on it.

    • yup, better to wait until the price comes down naturally. which is coming soon.

  • Bought last HP Envy 6 1010-TU from Preston, Victoria at 8.20. Was last one (Except for display unit).

    • How much?

      • 499 after cashback.

  • Anyone have reports of the UX21 being sold for $899? In Sydney?

  • Just went to chadstone store. Acer S3 was raised up to 999 and hp to 1199<-WTH and no toshiba.
    Wasted my fuel.

    • +1

Hope you at least bought the fuel at a discounted price

  • Picked up a u840 for $499 after the $500 cashback. My local store had none of the Acer S3's in stock and didn't have the Toshiba u840 even on display. Luckily I'd called the day before to confirm stock and asked them to check availability. Funnily enough when I went to the counter there was a HN employee standing there purchasing the exact same ultrabook so I'd say they were left off display in the hope they could secure the stock for themselves.

Purchased on interest free so hopefully that does not complicate the cash back offer. The store rep said payment that way was ok for the promo. Was anybody else told different?

    • The redemption form says goods must be paid in full before redemption is made

  • Bought a HP Envy 6 1010-TU from Maribyrnong @ 8.16am (glad I got in early).

    HP Envy 6 1010-TU ($999) + 'Product Care' ($279) = $1278 (minus cashback = $778)

Has anyone filled in the form yet? Invoice number is just above your address, at the top of the invoice ("INVOICE XXXXXXX"), right? And are people scanning + printing their copies of the invoice to send with the redemption form?

    • +2

$279 "product care" for a $500 laptop? Stuff that, before it breaks, there will be another promo on

      • I agree. I used to work for them and most of the time, the claim would be denied because of user's fault. Personally I think its a waste of money unless you pay 10% of the price of the goods for a 3 year cover. But some people have good experiences and they love it….

        • Can Product Care be refunded?

        • Yes it can.

    • the guy selling it to me 3 year extended care for 199. But these extended warranties are just cash cows for the company and commission for the employees. Peace of mind, but hardly useful for the end user. After 1 year, most problems occur when you physically damage it, and that's not covered.

  • big thumb up for HN Coburg, bought the S3 for $799, very nice ultrabook and even nicer if I can get the $500 cashback, the price on box is $999, but they honor the ticketed price which is $799, Thank you.

    • -1

they are really nice people, I regret I didn't buy the two year extend warranty for $160,

      • $160, eh? I assume that extended warranty is with Harvey Norman (not the manufacturer)? Is that different to 'Product Care'? (Wondering if I was a fool paying $279…)

        • +1

Margin on extended warranty is huge. Cost is around 5% of sell price from memory.

I would think you should be able to bargain them down to 10% of rrp.

Who they are service by depends on the product/brand. If it is going to cost to much the just replace with new.

        • Bugger, so they got me. I'd purchased that warranty before on an electronic device and ended up having my faulty item replaced by something way better - so it was a worthwhile buy.. Got ripped on this occasion though. Live and learn.

        • cost is not 5%, its lucrative with good margins, but thats BS.

        • I wonder if there is some statutory cooling off period with this - such that you could keep the computer but return to cancel and refund just the warranty. I'm esp inclined to think this given that the so-called "warranty" is really a paid for insurance policy.

Suggestions / confirmations from other pls…

        • yeah i got it for 140, but it's not a bad policy. it covers wear and tear and gives you a new replacement up the the original value that you paid - so the 999 rather than the 499 after cashback. what i'm curious though is my receipt says $1139 (999 + 140) but doesn't break it down to laptop and policy. how will they know how much value to cover me to?

        • Saverman, sw is correct you should 7 days or so to get a refund on the policy. Get your money back!

        • +1

"cost is not 5%, its lucrative with good margins, but thats BS."

And your source for that is?

I used to work there selling it. Incase you were thinking I meant 5% of the warranty rrp, I meant around 5% off the products rrp. It changes depending on the type of product as well.

EDIT: note i didn't say it is bad value. I replaced a heap of stuff for customers when i worked there. Digital cameras were almost always replaced with new. Laptops are really expensive to fix as well. A desktop on the other hand I wouldn't worry about it.

        • @binks90

From memory is says the price +warranty price on the receipt then the total.

Either way it is tracked on the back end anyway.

        • Thanks sw/zxcv, I may; but hmmm - what if I actually want the Product Care, but don't want to pay $279 for it? It's probably going to be hard to get a refund then attempt to purchase it once more at a lower price…

  • Yeah. Bought HP Envy 1010 for $999 at HN Broadway in the morning around 9am. Lots of people there. Was attempting to even negotiate a bit with the sales staff but was refused to a mean $9 off. Well. No bother. $900-$500=$499+Bonus Beats Solo isn't a too bad deal, is it?The staff told me it's gonna be a big day for them. Anyone also wants the HP bargain deal, head for Broadway. Seems they've still got some in stock but will be running out fast! Thanks OZ Bargain!

    • +1

      "$900-$500=$499"

      No it doesn't :)

      • Sorry for the typo. Was too excited to post correctly.Lol.Went to the HN@Belrose to successfully purchase the second last HP Envy 6 1010 for $999 at around 4PM today. We were too lucky as almost all the other suburban stores had run out of stock.Staff at Domayne North Ryde was really helpful and assisted us to check the stock. We then knew there were only 2 left@Belrose. Rang and ask Belrose staff to put aside one for us. Successfully got it in half an hour drive as flash. LOL. Just wondering who would get the last one there:)Good luck.

  • Find a ultrabook with a SSD only not SSD + hard disk. You wouldn't regret it, I will have to upgrade my S3 with SSD later.

    • Is it possible to do that? are the SSD same size as the normal HDDs???I would be keen to do that and install a fresh copy of windows and get rid of Toshiba's bloatware…

  • Last hp 6101tu @ 999 @ domayne north ryde. They seem to be doing 500 cashback on all sticker prices from what i could tell. Very happy with this deal

  • -1

I was there at 9:00am sharp. The sales guy told me the Asus Zenbook i3 version are all sold out. Well, I guess coming from HN its a normal tricks they use to off sale other things. All of the ultrabooks are over 1K except for the one AG_ACT talked about which is the Samsung with i5 and 8GB ram but no SSD.

If you're looking for HP or Asus then ure out of luck. The i5 Asus is price at 1399 with discount is 900! Which is not too much of a special.

    • I got to HN Preston at 8.55am and got my ASUS for $899, their official opening time was 9am but there was already several people out the door as I was walking in. They opened early, and you were just unlucky I'm afraid.

      • +3

didnt you know the sale started at 8am and not 9am.

        • from 8 to 8 today, it is on the newspaper, I was the first one to the store today when I arrived 7:55.

      • -1

Nah it was BS they didnt have any stock in that store….im pretty sure its in the back somewhere. But anyway good to hear that at least some people got it.

  • Bought display unit at hn moorabin (south rd). No further disc for display model :(
On the side note this unit was shipped to HN around 16 June so practically brand new.

  • +1

Grabbed the last toshiba u840 at my store for $500 even though I went in at 9am and there was no one there. It was mega dodgy though. I had 2 lebanese salesmen sit me down for >5 mins afterwards and try to upsell me on extended warranty, extra coverage and flexi renting. I said no to it all though, so I guess it worked out well for me.

    • Do they know no cash back if bought by flexi?

      • +2

To be honest, I don't think they know much at all. About anything.

      • If you flexirent it you can still claimed the cash back.

    • Sales people have extended warranty and flexirent targets. They also make good commissions on flexirents.

  • ACER S3 is 499…deal but no deal.

  • +1

Bought HP Envy 6 for $999 and it was label on the desk $499 after cashback at Bondi Junction.
All Ultrabook range had been located on separate desk and have reduced price on the label and
buy price on screen - nice and good practice ( no tricks ). After I refused exrended warranty
and anti-virus BIG SPECIALS - paid by CC ( additional warranty ) and grab the form.
Now - filling HN and HP Forms for redemption and keep my fingers crossed.

PS Seen Acer S3 on the desk was not impressed ( I think $399 ).

  • HPENVY6 - 1010TU
Castle Hill sticker price $1199, refer to WEB price, no questions $999

    Cashback via redemption $500

    $499 + beats :D

    • +2

They forgot what they said yesterday.

      • The one answered the phone does not work on weekend shifts :)

  • This is BS. Went to my local Hardly Normal (Kawana Waters) they didn't have the S3 model for $839. They had this S3 model (http://goo.gl/LRY2E) for $999. I googled the price it is $798 at Officeworks (http://goo.gl/tGH1i). Wouldn't budge on price even though I stated their price guarantee. They didn't care. They said I would be $300 better off, but I said it's a $500 cash back.

  • -1

HN Richmond are taking orders on the HP envy-6 for $999. Just bought one myself and as the receipt is dated today they ensured me there would be no issues with cash back. Said it would be in store for pick up early next week

    • I thought it was floor stock only? I don't want that slippery snake sitting on my money.

  • +1

i got to HN Bondi Junction at 7:55, and got the first Envy 6. It wasn't even on display when I got there, and they tried to sell me the 1001 for 1399 rather than 1010. After arguing with them, they agreed and put it on display for 999 (499 after cashback). staff didn't even know about it, and after i bought one, 2 of the staff said they would buy one too. There were 20 left when I got there. Also I managed to get Product Care for $140 rather than $279 after playing hardball. $279 warranty for a $350-400 laptop (assuming I can sell the headphones for $100-150) is ridiculous. Also does anyone know if the 1010 has a SSD? the sales staff said it didn't and when I was using it, windows is installed on the c drive, with no SSD drive seen. there is a recovery 20gb drive with a recovery file on it.

Edit - also I noticed that many laptop prices ere pumped up to RRP - including the S3

    • there is a recovery 20gb drive with a recovery file on it.

That should be an ssd. Check in the device manager to be sure.

      • hmm, it's kind of a waste of an ssd if you don't install windows on it right. should i reinstall windows, install windows on the ssd and just store the recovery file elsewhere - e.g. partition the c drive into 2 (install programs on one and documents/downloads on another) or external hdd/cd etc.

Edit - it was labelled recovery and 20gb - is that just a partition?

        • +2

The small SSD is used to store the hib file for the Instant on features.

        • so i don't understand. is the D drive labelled recovery the ssd? or is it somehow incorporated into the c drive?

        • if recovery crap
          yes, you should

        • You wouldn't see the SSD inside Windows, computer.

  • From the website.. it says 839?? Why dont people just get it online if the prices are so high in the stores? And where is this redemption form? Will it come with the laptop when its shipped to me? Thanks!

    • I tried but when it said to choose a store nothing showed up when I entered my postcode, so no go.

Maybe they are trying to force people to buy instore so they can sell their useless and overpriced warranties, surge protectors, and any other outdated crap they have lying around.

      • Its only a instore offer I found it!

        • +1

But what stops you from buying online, picking up from instore, then claiming?

        • You wont get the cash back. You have to buy it from in store first at their prices

  • HN Bondi Junction: bought the acer s3 on display for $839 (was told it was the last one in stock) - i got there around 9.10 am. as i am travelling i also get the gst back plus $500 so final cost will be 839-500-84= $255.

may not be the best one out there but will be giving this to a mate as a thankyou while overseas so i think we will both be happy.

while in buying mode i purchased the product care package 3 years for $150 - i think that was cheaper than usual because display model - free international return and replacement so happy with that. also bought Norton security (i am a mac person so quite ignorant about cheap/free virus protection for PCs).

  • +1

    Works in W.A. As well!
Just bought an Aspire S3-391 for $839 less the $500 cash back later, at the smaller Harvey Normans in Joondalup (near Anaconda off Joondalup Dve). They suggested they had a couple more and that it was wrong to jack the price up on the day of the sale.
Very pleasant Manager at that store who knew what he was about.
    Does not have an ssd.
They stuck a sticker on the box for a $15 Windows 8 upgrade procedure for later down the track.
At this price I can transfer all my stuff off the Aspire Netbook and try and sell it for $200??

    • Do you need the sticker to upgrade? I cant find any 'matching and valid OEM Certificate of Authenticity' in my box, although I dont really know what that is either….

      • +1

The certificate is the little Microsoft sticker with your product key that's stuck on the bottom of the laptop.

  • no problems with HN. bought the HP envy 6 for $999. the guy even gave me the phamphlet for the beats promo…

p.s wasnt on display either. but had no problems pulling out of inventory, and still giving me the discounted $999 price (originally $1199

never bought anything from HN before so pleasent transaction…

one thinks these prices should be regular prices to re kick start the pc laptop industry? it looked like an apple store with all the crowds around the ultrabooks….

  • Asus UX21E007 for $832 less $500 cash back at Harvey Norman Armadale WA. None left in stock and other deals not so good but gives you a ball park.

    • +1

I got two of those from Armadale. Went there at 7.50 am and I was basically the only person buying it.

  • Got the Acer S3 i5 model for $994 but was the last stock and had to settle for the display model. Sales rep were persistent for me to avail the extended warranty which I firmly said I don't need it.

  • The guy in front of me just nabbed the last Envy 6 at HN Browns Plains (QLD) for $999…
Feel like crying now… Even though I don't really need a laptop.

    • +1

      C'mon: Celebrate! You're now $499 richer… Hooray!
