@algy: The LT1 is great but bulky, the LT1S is a good compromise. Has a funky red light mode and the ability to turn LEDs on and off. Both come in a range of colours.
Occasionally sofirnlight.com (USA store) has better prices than Sofirn/Beamax Lighting (aka sofirn) on Ali, and occasionally Amazon Au deals are posted on Ozbargain using codes from the Asia Sofirn rep Vivi.
I Purchsed the if22a and quickly retuned it.
It lasted a couple of minutes and then became too hot to hold, seriously hot.
Made it useless as a torch and i felt uneasy about having housing and battery(i guess?) So hot, felt like a fire risk.
That's a pity. I think you had it on turbo. Turbo is really the absolute maximum you can get out of the light and will get hot for all newer lights. The output usually drops down after 30 seconds or so - this is based on temperature of around 50C. After 10mins the light should be relatively stable but nowhere near the initial output.
Personally I don't use turbo - it loses so much energy to heat. I think it's a bit of a wank. Most contemporary lights won't hold the high lumen output either. Medium is usually best - it maintains lumens and doesn't get hot which makes it the best economic high lumen output.
@poohduck: Early versions (I hope they've fixed them because I just bought one) of the IF22A had occasional problems with charging - not switching off and reaching near dangerous voltages - AND quickly reaching high temps of nearly 70 C on both turbo and high despite having temperature regulation. The charging issue is serious and unacceptable, the latter is undesirable especially on high (turbo being for very short bursts). There are reviews and comments around the web for anyone interested. The 'pocket rocket' SC31 Pro also gets uncomfortably hot on turbo if left on.
No I'm not a "flashoholic" or expert (there are a few on Ozbargain for people wanting advice), just an interested user.
@Igaf: I'm no expert either - I only researched when buying my own lights. I had heard of some lights where temp wasn't regulated - didn't know it was sofirn as well. I don't buy early versions of anything (motorcycle, car, mtb, electronic unicycle) because of this.
I actually don't like on board charging - it's an extra system and makes waterproofing a joke. Convoy seem to be the only company that have current models without this option. The sofirn c8g (I have it) is really awesome - it's a thrower, cheap, no onboard charging, and has a really good switch setup including momentary on which I use all the time. It also runs incredibly cool compared to others, even on high.
@poohduck: Love onboard charging myself. No need to have a dedicated Li battery charger or take it with you on trips. All the charging connections are watertight on Sofirn lights I have but it's obviously a risk if you need a waterproof system.
@zealmax: Lol, that's exactly how I found out about the SC31. Accidentally turned it on in my pocket and turbo must have been the last setting. Was walking through the bush and felt a burning on my thigh. Daughter thought it was hilarious.
