Surfshark VPN: 98% Cashback (New Customers Only) @ ShopBack

180

If you're waiting to sign up, it's that Cashback time of the month again for Surfshark VPN with ShopBack.

There seem to be 2 promotions running, 81% off (paid in AUD) and 83% off paid in USD, both with 98% cashback. Although even if paying with AUD, it may attract an OS txn fee, so might have to be careful.

Check here for TA's recommendations for tracking and GST in payments: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/730706#comment-12807335 — These remarks are for Cashrewards, but I guess they apply to Shopback as well.

  • These guys any good? I currently use PIA but a previous deal has comments that make them sound rubbish since being bought out

    • +1

I've been using Surfshark for 2+ years. The previous subscription just expired. I've pretty much been looking at shopback every morning for a cashback offer as I missed the Cashrewards deal earlier this month.

It has worked well for me so far. Split tunneling feature is what I love the most. And its available with the browser plugin. I use it at work and can easily whitelist intranet pages so they can be accessed without turning off VPN. Most services only has this feature with the app. But I can't use the app at work.
Windscribe and surfshark are the only 2 ones I've found to have whitelisting with the browser extension. But Windscribe AU servers aren't fee.

    • Been using them for over a year and on desktop is great on mobile once every so often I need to reset the connection. So I would say yes they are good

    • Pretty average. Found Cyberghost and Nord were better

    • I have been using surfshark for a few years and just setup a PIA subscription as my SS is about to expire. I think they are very comparable but SS does seem a bit faster. Unless you have a particular problem with PIA I wouldn't switch.

I am trying to use to buy a google one account and it doesnt work!

    • +3

Do you mean you're using Surfshark to fly to Turkey to buy Google One?

If that's the case I think you need a Google payment profile in Turkey. Probably read up on that first

      • -2

It simply doesn't work for me.
I tried one more time after your post. I chose Turkey for the software.
Then I copy and paste my IP to google; it shows I am in SCOTLAND
        what a Joke!
I wonder why I am saying it is not a good VPN software and people are marking negative on my post.

        • +1

Using a VPN does NOT get you google products/services from other countries. That's not how it works.

Please read a tutorial on how to do it. I've seen plenty on OzB.

          • @FirstWizard: Please read my last post again.I am trying to use this VPN. the IP address is showing me I am in SCOTLAND.

            • @helnandez: I'm unaware of your circumstances and how you used the VPN service. Also I don't work for surfshark so can't comment much.
All I can say is it's worked for me well.

My static IP (which I'm paying for) for home shows me in that I'm in Ballarat VIC, but I'm pretty much 750km away from there.

Which geolocation service did you use to track your IP? Did you use a paid service? did you know that even paid high accuracy databases aren't 100% accurate? And sometimes even off by 1000km+

              https://whatismyipaddress.com/geolocation-providers#geolocat…

              • @FirstWizard: Well, Turkey is a bit further than Scotland
By the way, to reply this comment, I have to disconnect my fancy Surfshark first.
                It disconnected me.
I am using the latest version surfshark, MacBook Pro M1 2020 version. both tested safari and chrome

                • @helnandez: I'm sorry you're having trouble using Surfshark. Again I don't know your circumstances to provide technical support maybe reach out to them? Or ask for a refund?

I used Surfshark while posting this deal and it worked fine for me.

EDIT: I also just connected to Turkey and this is what I got for my geolocation:

                  City :Istanbul
                  State/Region :Istanbul
                  Country :Turkey
                  Continent :Asia
                  Postal code :34134
                  Calling Code :90
                  Time zone :Europe/Istanbul
                  Latitude / Longitude : 41.0145 / 28.9533

          • @FirstWizard: It certainly does. You setup a family group, create a new google account and set vpn to turkey. Upgrade to google one then your whole family group gets google one without having to set their google play store to Turkey.

  • they declined my nordvpn cashback

    • Did you contact them and ask why?
Was it tracked in the first place (and got the email from ShopBack)?
Was it after Nords 30day monkey back period?

      • Yes.
Can't remember it was a year or so ago.
        Yes.

  • I just got the PureVPN on 100% cashback…. I wonder if I VPN into a VPN… :p

  • +1

Any turkey 🇹🇷 vpn won’t work for Surfshark.

    • +1

Yeah, unfortunately I don't think they offer great discounts for Turkey😕

But hey, this deal makes it $2 for 2 years. What more can you ask for.

    • I did Netflix with surfshark no problems at all.

What VPN do you use for turkey?

      • Yeah, Turkish servers in surfshark works well for me.

How I understood mooreshadys statement was as if he's going to buy surfshark using another VPN to get Turkish prices.

  • Can you create a Turkish Netflix account with this service?

Edit: Want to watch 'solved air-crash investigations'.

Would I be paying more than $4.10?

    • Surfshark works for netflix, I paid $5.46 for mystandard netflix last month.

      • You'll be paying in more ways than one if you drink the kool-aid offered by utopia.

        • Utopia is on amazon prime

          • @denserham: Here we have someone who is from utopia. A group of orcs who murder people.

      • Which bank card are you using with Turkish netflix? I tried CBA and NamAB and none of them was able to process the payment after using Turkish GC for netflix.
        Thanks

        • +1

Revolut I have Macquarie, Up and Wise as backup cards now in case one gets cancelled

  • Will it work for one year plan or do we need to sign up for 2 years?

    • +1

I think it will, but the 2-year plan will cost you ~AU$90 which is $1.80 after 98% cashback, and 1 year plan is ~$74 which is ~$1.48 after cashback.

So you're getting a full year for that extra 32c.

NOTE: SurfShark's Australian servers have been extremely buggy the past few months.

I've used SurfShark as my main VPN for a couple years now, alongside other VPNs (e.g. PureVPN) for other purposes (e.g. static IP for work). SurfShark has been my clear favourite up until their Australian servers started acting up. They have some of the best privacy features, all of their servers offer P2P for torrenting, the app is simply well made, and it can come bundled with AV.

Unfortunately, once connected to Australian servers (regardless of the OS I'm using and city I'm connecting to) data flow is often non-existent. Disabling the VPN or swapping to another country resolves the issue immediately.

Just something to keep in mind if using an Australian server is important to you.

    • Yeah I agree . Terrible speed on AU servers . My subscription expired from last deal . Thinking of jumping to Nord Vpn . Lots of positive feedback for them .

    • So if i have moved overseas and was looking at an option for occasionally "being back in australia" internet-wise, this is not the option to go for, am i understanding correct? I've never used a VPN at all before so unfamiliar with the details

      • Yep, that's my experience anyway.

        • Thanks for the reply.
Alright ill keep an eye out for an alternate option then.

  • Any Indian servers on surfshark? My friend told Nordvpn is no longer offering Indian servers.

    • Just checked. They seem to have two actual servers (Mumbai and New Delhi) and one virtual server.

      • Right. I bought it already and checked. Do you have any idea why $99 was taken? Is it due to the 10% VAT

        • Looks like it. I only now found out going through older posts.

I've edited the description above to include TA's tips for potentially avoiding GST. These are for CR, but I guess that's how it works for Shopback too.

  • Has anybody done this? what was your tracked cashback? paid in us spent $99aud I got $85.49aud cost me $13.51 wondering if paying in usd screwed me or if they don't count the GST or whatever.

    • In my case. I have paid $99.25 and got only 84.85 tracked. ;( I chose AUD and still this happened.

    • +1

Yeah, same; I only had $85.49 tracked too. You may be right. It does look like cashback is for the ex-VAT price.

I was going through the CR deal from earlier this month. I guess the same happened there.
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/761868

EDIT: That seems to be the culprit; I just looked at some older posts, and TA talks about how GST is not eligible for Cashback with CR. (and how to avoid getting hit with GST?) — too late for me.

      • Did you guys get charged an international transaction fee because payment is USD first?

        • Paid using an international txn fee-free credit card. So no.

But if I didn't, I would have been charged a fee as the description details on the statement clearly said the payment was processed overseas.

  • Does this work on Foxtel from the USA?

  • Expired? Went to sign up but looks like 10% cashback now?

    • me too :(
