THE PRICE ON THE PAGE IS NOT WHAT WILL APPEAR IN THE CART! DON'T PANIC! PRICE IN CART IS USD165.

This is their latest tablet. It wasn't available at buyitincoins.com when the coupon was initially posted but it is now. There are slightly lower prices (by a buck or two) for what appear to be this tablet on aliexpress but the specs are dodgy (wrong battery capacity for eg) so I'm not counting them as if you buy and you don't get what you expect you can't even refer to the ad to have a solid whinge.

The specs here appear right. This tablet is dual core 1.5Ghz, 1280x800 IPS capacitive touchscreen, 5Mpx back cam, 2Mpx front cam, bluetooth, wifi, 5000mah battery, 1GB RAM and 16GB storage. 3G is supported via dongle.

Several sites indicate Google Play support is included (the original Chinese site seems to hint at it but since all the Chinese is an image and not text online translation utils fail).

About the only thing it's really missing is in-built 3G support and GPS.

The tablet is listed as USD165 (once you get it in the cart at least) but the coupon will drop that by USD15 giving USD150.

Their website is a little rickety. You'll get a 404 if you delete something from your cart (though it will delete) as well as if you try to order without being logged in first. My suggestion is either login first or make an account first and then make your purchase. Less pain that way.

Also, this is a pre-release sale. I do not believe that it'll ship until 2012-8-29 2300 (roughly a week from now).

dealman, master of copy and paste, has provided more specs.

Odd, the page you've linked to lists it at $223.67 for a single unit but it shows up in the cart at $164.99, coupon drops it to $149.99.

    • +1

Yeah. I was confused at first also but it made it all the way through at the discounted price.

      • I've had a lot of problems with their cart system in the past, most notably when they have a coupon that only lasts a couple of hours. They get hammered and it does some truly bizarre things under the strain it seems.

        • +1

Yeah. Their website is a bit… rickety shall we say. Got a few 404s when going through.

Hmm… best add a bit more info above.

        • mine got to $155 usd which is about right

        • The last thing I recall breaking was changing the quantity of something in the cart and then doing a refresh, I think that throws a 404 but strangely, the change works.

Flaky at the best of times yet somehow it's glued together enough to work. Kinda.

  • lcd is not 1200x800, it's 1280x800!
ps "presell product lead time 2012-8-29 2300" does this mean you won't have the tablet shipped before 29 August?

    • yes , website saying it's presale

  • +9

Ainol… burning… [insert spicy food joke here] ha.

    Maturity at its finest ;)

    • Enjoy Life. Enjoy Ainol.
      That is what they say,
      those who work for Ainol.

      • +5

Yeah you've gotta wonder why they don't run these names via western associates etc before going to market.

Here's an English lesson that may help clear things up a bit.

        • +2

The name choice was probably deliberate. Look how much brand recognition they get here on OzB! We remember them BECAUSE their name stands out!

        • +1

          LOL

        • Agreed. As near as I can tell with my rusty Mandarin, the name 'Ainol' doesn't actually mean anything at all?

        • So, who wants some Coke to go with their Ainol?

        • 艾诺 is the direct pronunciation
of Ainol in Mandarin. In short, the name Ainol does not mean anything in Chinese.

    • +1

When I saw the deal title I immediately thought of Dhalsim's evil alter ego from Street Fighter:

      Ainol Fire, Ainol Flame

      • +1

I fell into a burning ring of fire
I went down, down, down and the flames went higher
And it burns, burns, burns, the ring of fire
        The ring of fire

(with my deepest apologies to the late Johnny Cash)

  • Question is….is this tablet any good and if so is it good for the price?

    • +2

It ticks a lot of the right boxes, the Elf II and Aurora are considered quite good. I've got an Elf II and it's great, lots of followers and custom rom support etc.

I'd expect that this one will also gain quite a following.

      • +1

yeah you cant lose with Ainol!

all the various forums like slatedroid have got mental over it so you can expect a heap of people who will be able to prepare cyanogen and whatever

ainol have committed to Jelly Bean and the reality is there isnt much in the way of competition at the price… name another $150 tablet with the same specs

The last three Ainol tabs have been awesome for the money.

    • On paper, it seems very respectable overall, and excellent for the price. The reality remains to be seen, but Ainol have built up a sizeable following based on acceptable quality for a bargain price, so assuming that the seller is legit (a few people around here seem to vouch for them), this is probably a very nice deal.

      • What sort of paper?

        • Toilet paper, presumably.

    • All done, $148.97 via Paypal.

      Happy days.

  • Question is…Ainol Novo 7" ($150) or Cube U30GT 10" ($190)?
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/77357

    • 7" and 10" is too difference thing, you have to make up your mind first.

      • Indeed. I wanted something that I could throw in a bag or have next to me easily. 7" at that res does that for me just fine.

Yeew. Just looked. Unless you are visually impaired, go for the 7" IMO. The 10" is the same res.

      • I know, but for my fist android, is it better to buy 10" for another $40?
        Well…..still confused to decide 7" vs 10"

        • it depends on your needs. If you need to carry it around with you a lot, its probably better to get the 7". 10" is better for at home use

        • +3

get both sizes. you'll always find a need for both :)

        • +7

If the Ainol came in a 7" and a 10", I'd probably take the 7". It'd hurt less.

    • +2

That's really just asking 7" vs. 10". Both are great options, probably best of the cheap chinese tablets in there respective categories.

      edit: beaten :)

    • Cube has just on twice the screen area. Due to identical screen res though, the picture will be identical and the DPI on the cube is much less (more than Ipad 1 & 2 still though).

Cube has better benching CPU/GPU combo. GPU is quad-core on the cube vs dual-core on the Ainol though the Ainol's GPU is higher clocked but not enough to make up the difference…

  • Google Play support?

  • How does it compare to this?
    http://www.ramos-tablet.com/ramos-w17-pro-7-inch-dual-core-1…
The only difference i can see is a slight bump in resolution. and this one is $128.40~

  • +2

I cannot buy this item if I cannot recommend it to anyone.

How do I tell friends and colleagues whether they have 'tried Ainol'?

    • +1

Well you could lead them into it. Ask them if they'd like a pizza or, perhaps, if they have a pool if they would like it cleaned. If they seem open to the idea you could casually steer the conversation towards them trying Ainol.

    • +3

Buy one for yourself, offer them an Ainol experience with your tab and if they like it, assist them with their purchase.

    • +1

I think it is best just to get them to lay their fingers on your ainol… if they enjoy it, perhaps then you could share ainol experiences together?

  • Do they make a model same as this but only 1 camera? Two cameras totally unncessary for tablet in my case.

    • Closest is probably the Aurora II but you will lose a couple of other features too, see below.

    • +3

Sticky tape is you friend. Just cover the one you hate most.

      • +1

Isn't duct tape the solution to every problem? :)

      • A band-aid is better, you can always change your mind and you won't have sticky goo on the lens.

Recommended for all windows-based PCs with an inbuilt webcam, just in case you get a virus or spyware that broadcasts your webcam images…

    • +1

Lower res, no bluetooth, smaller battery.

For me, those were biggies and enough to justify the price difference.

    • +1

      Face, meet palm.

  • How long does postage take?

If wanted to get it before 10 Sept is there any chance?

    • Actually im interesterd in this too

    • I've ordered several times and it's always at least 2 weeks using the free options.

    • +2

If I interpret their table correctly and they ship in the 29th, you have about 76.5% chance of not dieing from asphyxiation.

  • Does anyone know if JB, DickSmith or Harvey sell Ainol tablets? I know this is a presale so most likely no one will carry the Novo7 Fire but I just want to try a Ainol tablet in real life before ordering one…

    • I saw someone post somewhere that they found and Elf II at a Strathfield I think it was but I don't think any of the major retailers would carry them.

Plenty of video reviews on youtube you could check out as well.

      • Thnx. There is a Strathfield Car Radio on my way home. I might drop by and try my luck.

      • probably some azn computer shop.

    • No they don't

    • +1

Are you telling us you've never tried Ainol before?

      • +2

Have you? Did you enjoy it??

        • +3

Apparently Ainol is great with 7 inches!
10 inches is too much IMHO

    • +2

Maybe harvey can get his hands on ainol ?

But dicks smith should def get into ainol.

  • grrrrrr…. cart died multiple times, tried both chrome and explorer, refreshed pages for no luck, had to triple check I wasn't charged through paypal, I give up!

    Stupid cart.

    • Interesting as I was successful with no major issues.

    • Mine only died cos I didn't rego first. If you don't and it dies, reload and you'll be logged in. Then try again. I use firefox, though. Maybe try that.

  • Hasnt been even BUILT yet these are pre orders they wont be available till the end of the month and then another 3-4-5 weeks wait for delivery… hope you guys are patient little GUINEA PIGS remember no one has tried it yet in oz especially when other models had inherent problems wifi for one and screen problems …just be patient guys and gals see how they are accepted elsewhere …thats what im doing anyway…
Before i get jumped on …im just trying to help :-)

    • They've sorted the Wifi issues, taught the assemblers how and what to solder properly, and the screen issues with the Aurora 2 have apparently been solved with later firmware updates.

    • +1

It never pays to be early adopters. From experience (with their Mars series) their first batch of tablets usually have some sort of issue and return rates are generally higher.

I suggest waiting a month or two and see if the tablets are reliable.

  • If you are in the market for a tablet these days its a very good time to… wait. iPad mini, windows RT, Nexus 10 are coming out soon-ish.

    • I would tend to disagree. At this price, it is almost an impulse buy. Certainly the other Ainol at $100 is and for the added features, this is close.

While I love all things Apple, the iPad Mini will be a premium product but is no doubt the prime choice for a present for people who just want a seamless experience.

Like the Mini, the RT and the 10 are yet to be released products and will retail for at least double the Fire, probably more.

You will also have to wait a couple of months at least to get your hands on one. I"m undecided about the Fire, but it looks promising.

    • different markets.
      $150 vs $300-400

  • +2

I haven't seen things evolve this rapidly in Tablet PC land since I can remember when.

    My own, trusty 7 inch/ IPS/HDMI/1024*600/ dual-core 1.2GHz/ 1GB DDR3/8GB/ front 0.3mp cam/ 3600mAh =USD108.99 a few months back, has been beaten in the majority of those parameters.

ADD a 5MP camera +Bluetooth support +38% higher battery for ~40.00 extra, and these tabs are heaping on power at a fantastic rate. +Whatever you do leave 3G at dongles & preserve the value.

  • Does this tablet have one of those CPUs that next to no applications support?

    Edit: nevermind

    • +1

I got the same email. I'd say it's because this is a pre-order. They can't have stock atm. :)

  • I'm considering buying this, but I'm not sure what I'd do with it, as I have a smart phone. Besides the performance differences what would the functional differences be of a tablet to a smart phone?

    • +1

eBook reading, watching movies, web browsing, playing games etc.

Of course you could do all that on a smartphone — but the benefit of the tablet is of course, screen size, and you won't have to wear down your phone's battery which could've used for making phone calls.

    • +1

Of course bigger screen, what else can you think of?

    • +2

I was, for example, considering stationing it as a toilet tablet.

      • If using it as a toilet tablet, I find it best to hover a little… lest you get water on your Ainol.

        • Ewww, splashback.

  • +4

Usually you have to pay extra for Ainol.

    • +1

Sorry Wally, I accidentally negged your comment; I revoked it, but I'm giving it a mental plus though! ;)

  • Well, if you arrange them in order, Ainol does come before Apple. Booyah. …As long as it sounds the same/similar I don't think the Chinese care about connotation.

  • Can this be use as a GPS? and How? Please.

    • No internal GPS. You will need a bluetooth GPS dongle, a phone or a 3G/4G dongle with GPS and someway to share it to this device.

  • Ainol with Jellybeans would be great..It should fit in nicely…with those specs

  • How about getting a cover keyboard and other accessories for this guys?
Have you found any good ones on ebay ?

Just pasting the specs here for everyone to see.

  • I know I'm a bit late in the game but does thing come in a tube?

    • It can be made to but sharpened edges may result as the tube is emptied.
