      Or even in the description…..

    • Lol Rep had a big night with his brother Johnny last night. He should get it sorted soon.. after a few more coffees. ;P

    any deals on modem alone?

Why is this worth $335? You can get a modem-router with higher than 300Mbps speed, built-in VoIP support, and a separate high-end DECT cordless phone for less in total.
OzCableGuy sells the modem-router for $249. Surely a cordless handset can be had for <$86.

You could get a 900Mbps dual band gigabit router with VoIP for about $250 (Netcomm NF3ADV). I think that constitutes better value when combined with a cordless phone of your choice.

    • Fritzbox is made in Germany, supports NBN, and a few other benefits in the firmware. Not too familiar with Netcom, but performance on FritzBox is very good for my internet, highest sync speed of all modems ive used.

So is it worth it? It may come done to individual needs to price.

    • The All-In-One benefit cant be ignored… and cant really be compared with what you've suggested.

You can read and receive emails and sms via the handset, with full push notification. You can pretty much manage everything via the handset. Multiple mailboxes for voice and data is also very nice.

Yeah it's got a premium price, but for someone who wants everything all in one box (I for one hate have to have a powerboard full of plugged in crap along with cables and crap everywhere), there isnt an alternative.

I've been looking at these things for a while now, but the price keeps scaring me off.
But there's no question they are unique…. nothing else out there does the all the things this does.

    $3 saving off the regular combo pricing of Oztechnologies;

    http://www.ozcableguy.com/review.asp?router=AVM7390
    https://shop.ozcableguy.com/detail.asp?product=AVMMT-F Combo Item

So roughly 1% saving off regular, no enticement for me to buy!

Maybe a free delivery might salvage the offer ;)

  • I am also interested in the modem alone, how about a deal on that?

  • Hi guys,

We bought these as a bundle and need to sell them as a bundle.

This is the cheapest price we are able to offer I am sorry.

    Cheers,

    Matt

I'm sorry, but it's a bit of a stretch to call this a 'deal'.

      • Fair Enough - how about $5.00 shipping then?

    Non-Concurrent Dual Band.

EDIT: I am wrong. I was only looking at these a few months back and was convinced they didn't have it and ended up going with a Netgear. Nevertheless I am very happy with my Netgear purchase.

    Superfluous comment. Please ignore.

  • As mentioned above, $3 cheaper with only $15 Delivery.

This has $13.70 shipping, plus the extra $3 = $1.70 more than regular price!

    • My comment was the Oztechnologies was $3 higher, so The Cable Connection price is actualy cheaper which equates to a 1% saving.

If it was higher I would have neg'd the deal, as it stands the deal is ok if you need both items and want to save $3.

      • Ooops, I got the delivery charges mixed around! :$

  • I love my Fritzbox !!!!

I really recommend the Fritzfon too if you are looking for a phone too, i got 3 with mine… They integrate really well with Fritzbox….

A normal comment from jv for once! I am going out to buy the lotto, might be a lucky day today!

Do note that DECT coverage is poor from the fritzbox base station. It might be better to buy a base station siemens phone and use that instead, having it connected to the normal base and fritzbox dect base.

Same g722 codecs are used in both situations.

So… Likewise, it's up to you whether you want to buy it as a combo.
I wouldn't recommend it because it's so hard to customise.

Billion + Minitar + Cheapo Phone is probably a better build, because if one component breaks down, your whole modem isn't crippled. This is also surprisingly cheaper than the fritzbox build.

Furthermore, Fritzbox has major issues with uniden phones. So, if you have a $200 uniden set you want to incorporate along with the fritzfon. Don't buy the fritzbox.

        • Do note that DECT coverage is poor from the fritzbox base station.

I don't have any problems. My Fritz is in the centre of the house and all our walls are solid brick (incl internal walls).
DECT works find inside and out… (about 800 m2)

I use 3 FritzFons and 1 Telstra DECT… both VOIP and PSTN on all…

I love how simple, yet feature rich the interface is…

        • No issues with Fritzbox and DECT phones.

We've got 4 (Panasonic) handsets paired to our unit - incl one on another floor - suspended concrete slab between.

Could you be having problems with other DECT users in your area?

Fritzbox has a utility to help you to check for potential interference so that you can adjust the frequency band that you use for DECT.

    OK -

Lets Cap the shipping at $5.00 each! How does that sound?

  • I am looking to replace my current setup (Billion 7300GRA+WRT54GL/DD-WRT) but everywhere I look I see great reviews for this from hardware review sites but then the user comments are full of dissatisfied people saying these things break after a few months, are unreliable and support is terrible. Who to believe?

    • Mine has been running from March 2011, and have had no problems. There are many happy users on Whirlpool.

Regarding support, some feature requests have been asked by customers and the Fritz team advised the features would not be added, but they have ended up in the firmware.

    • +1

I had a similar setup before buying a Fritz!Box+FritzFon. Had lots of dropouts on ADSL connection and poor VoIP quality.
I've had it for 12+ months and zero issues with the Fritz setup. The best-there-is all-in-one router/modem/Voip box. I wouldn't buy a Billion again!
Fritz is also >>very easy<< to configure. It even has wizards that guide you through configuration process. Oh, did I forget to mention that it comes with a >>5 year<< warranty!!!

      • I must admit to ignorance when it comes to VOIP. Will this bundle allow me to use the handset with my current (non voip) landline as well as using my existing handset (which is just a standard cordless DECT phone)?

To use the FritzFon as a VOIP handset, I'd need to pay my ISP (internode) a monthly fee on top of my line rental?

        • +1

You should be able to simply plug in your cordless DECT in the Fritz, you will have 2 phones connected between the Fritz phoned bundled and what you have already have.

I believe Internode do charge a monthly fee for the nodephone product, last I looked it included some calls with it though.

There are a number of free monthly plans, where you just pay for calls. Check out the whirlpool.net.au forums for further information on VOIP providers that offer these.

        • Yes, you can connect your current handset to Fritz!Box as it has FXS/FXO ports ( http://www.3cx.com/PBX/FXS-FXO.html)
Even better, Fritz!box can pair with compatible DECT handsets directly!!! This means you can use a compatible DECT handset as if it was a Fritz!Fon (although you wouldn't have the same features).
You can use any VoIP provider, it doesn't have to be Internode. I have three VoIP accounts with Pennytel and ClubTelco. They all seamlessly integrate with the PSTN (landline) and work perfectly fine. Oh, btw, did I mention that Fritz!Fon can >>record<< all phone calls (PSTN & VoIP) to its local, built-in flash storage?

        • I'd need to pay my ISP (internode) a monthly fee on top of my line rental?

          https://www.mynetfone.com.au/whirlpool/VoIP/Plans/WhirlpoolS…

  • im very happy with my fritzbox, bought it used for $170 to upgrade from my Billion 7800n, connected my telstra DECT to it and works great, no net dropouts wotsoever.. can safely say its the best router ive ever owned

Now to get onto the NBN.

Pretty sure it's cheaper to buy these separately from the staticice stores.

    • +2

Pretty sure its not! I always use static ice as a guide!
