There was no customer service when trying to sort out this problem.
As mentioned even the TIO was surprised with there non-response not only to me but they also got no response.

Also when my mother got hit for $180 excess fee and her service being suspended until (originally it was $153, then when they suspended the account 2 days later,it went to $180) the $180 excess was paid. This happened two days after the initial email was sent regarding hitting the allowed data (5gb) in 12 days into the monthly cycle.

As for the $180 excess fee, we didnt get a chance to dispute it, they simply went into our credit card within (I think 2-3 days) and take it out.
Thats right, they take the money out before you can even contest it.Then they connect you back up.

I tell you what, it becomes very very Frustrating when you cant make any contact with them and they dont reply back to your emails (In this case), and thats when it hits you.
Had email contact with them before when something like picture messaging not working, but good luck to you when something as serious or major thing like this happens.

As for service, No, I wasnt expecting a first class customer service for the price, but I wasn't repaired for NO Service either.

Agree with steveo4u. I can honestly see live connected being relevant to (primarily) voice callers, not to data users who are better served by Woolworths $17/mo plan. $26.10 x 45days.

I would go so far as to suggest Woolies Prepaid might in fact be eating into LC, to the extent that LC is forced to drop it's starter pack fee rather than this outcome being born of choice.

$12 x ($)500 minutes is a good value return in this marketplace, but it isn't not for everyone. It is NOT capped as prepaid is, by default setting. The Consumer should not EVER be ripped off, overcharged-style, as above noted.

I dare anyone to intellectually defend '1.5gb' being sufficient data. At 1hours of 480P/0.9GBph (2Mbps)SD Video, it certainly isn't made for the data user. Woolworths on the other hand, 5,oooMB's.

      • +2

With liveconnected $18 plan you get 2.8x more worth of calls and unlimited text at the expense of an extra 3GB of data compared to woolworths.

I dare anyone to intellectually defend '1.5gb' being sufficient data.

This made me lol. Depends on the user, in my case I rather have the extra calls. I rarely use more than 1GB/month.

      • +3

1.5gb is more than enough for a lot of people. I personally don't recall ever using more than 700mb. So, I'd even say 1.5gb is sufficient data for most people, except, as you said, data users.

      • +1

For people who don't watch a lot of streaming video, it is plenty.

        • +2

Most ppl use broadband at home & only use the included data while they're out & about, hence 'mobile data'. 1.5GB on the $12/mth plan is plently unless you also use it up at home through tethering….

          'apples & oranges'

        • That's exactly what I mean. I don't watch YouTube when I'm out and about, I do that at home. 1.5 GB is plenty for just general web browsing during my daily commute.

        • Yes 1.5gb is more than enough. I do not watch youtube because it chews through the data. But I am a pretty heavy web browser and even tether my phone to the laptop. Never have gone over 1gb.

      • I agree with everyone else - 1.5GB is plenty for many people. There is more than one type of phone user. :)

      • Woolies' 5 GB is spread over 45 days, ie, ~ 1.5 months

        So, I reckon you're at about 3.33 GB/30-days (= ~mon)

    • Within about 12 days in on her 3 months

What do you mean? It's a monthly contract.

No plan has 5GB, it was probably prorated, http://support.liveconnected.com.au/entries/21234946-what-is…

      • Umm, don't you think steveo4u would know by now what he is talking about ?, this is a serious scenario involving the TIO…

    • I had almost the same issue 1 month with 1 of my plans with them just after they brought the new data metering system in…. But "nothing was wrong with it" they said!

  • +2

Was looking to sign my parents up last week, being lazy paid off!
    Thanks OP.

  • Signed up a few months ago and been very happy. two other family members also on LC now. $11.99 plan is great value and the 1.5gb is more than enough data, great for tethering to laptop.

  • There forum on the site clearly shows bad customers service. besides this amaysim has apps for both android and iOS to keep track of data.

Until customer service is decent I wouldn't trust it.

    • +6

Many companies (similar to LC, such as TPG) do this.

In the long run $20 is minuscule compared to what other companies(like Optus, Telstra, Vodaphone) charge

      • So very true, telcos are always finding ways to charge you on fees you've never even heard of

    • +1

Look at the big picture. The $20 starter fee might not be worth it if you plan to stay 1 month. But even if you're staying two months, it ends up being $10 over the 3 months ($20/2) in addition to say, the medium plan ($12+10) = $22 per month for 2 months for $500 real credit, is still cheaper than many of the big carriers.
So actually, just look at the two month picture. You seem to be looking at a one month picture.

  • +1

Oh damnit I signed up to LC and paid the $20 fee last week :(

    • +1

did the exact same thing.. slightly pissed off haha

      • Lets all petition to get it reimbursed!

  • I would have given this deal a neg if LC somehow managed to charge me for a new port I ordered today before the deal came out. Checked my invoice and it was nice to see getting charged $0 for starter pack fee:)

    • I noticed that their site has been showing -no- $20 fee for days, already.

      • So is there an expiry date on this or is this permanent?

        • Dunno, but I'd say it was slow making it onto OzB

  • how much is it for porting your number over to another network from LC?

  • Used them since February on old medium plan - no major complaints but I have low standards - a victim of 3 for 10 agonising years. Love the data speeds when I get that little H ;) (especially with Opera Mini, but I guess you'd lose out on "free social"). And didn't I hear Optus is upgrading to 4g anyway (in some areas) over the next 2 years?

Keep in mind it costs $10 (when I needed it anyway) just to activate international roaming. Not that you would use it until "the commission" sets them straight on exorbitant charges.

BTW, it's cheaper to buy 2 medium plans than 1 XL?!

    • free social only applies to apps afaik, eg. if you visit facebook/twitter/ebay on a browser its still counted doesnt matter what browser.

    • Does the $10 get refunded once you deactivate the international roaming? TPG charges $120 for a deposit…

      • Would like to know the answer to this too.

        • PS. The roaming deposit was actually $100 until they withdrew the facility.

  • +1

Have been with LC for 12 months. Just signed up to port 2 more numbers across from Vodafail. Just followed the onscreen prompt..with number to port and telco account#.
I have had great query support from LC. Would ready like them to BRING BACK MOBILE BROADBAND PLEASE… Then I can have my total telco and internet pack in one place. I had been with Voda for 6 years and they couldnt come close to providing the same value for money…told me they hadnt heard of LC….bet lots of people will now. Use with Samsung Galaxy Note for calls, mms and internet. I rate 9/10 if Voda is the baseline…. Recommended.

  • Awesome just signed up!

  • +1

It's great value, but don't expect any customer service. there isn't even a phone number to call. I've been with them for 3 years and the service has been good.

you get what you pay for! If you want someone to call if you have problems, TPG is the way for a bit extra

  • +3

Don't forget Vaya people, its cheaper and well so far customer service has been great ! ;)
Pls check them out, they have been great and I would recommend them…
    www.vaya.net.au

    • I haven't heard of these guys before, their prices are great but you still have to put up the $20 in startup costs…

  • I wonder if Optus 4G will be restricted to the genuine Optus subscribers and us cheapskates will end up bitter against fancy-pants Optus (and of course, Telstra) subscribers?

  • +1

Can i sign up now and activate end of sept?

  • I signed up with them last October. Had a hiccup when porting my number over, which was resolved soon after via email. Other than that, service has been great.

  • Good Deal!

  • +1

….If someone really wants to get a BETTER deal (in my opinion) - check Lycamobile.
    http://www.lycamobile.com.au/unlimited-plan/en

You pay $24 a month and get so much..and LYCA uses Telstra network..which is better than OPTUS.

Get a whole lot more with Lycamobile Just for $24.00 with Super saver plan

You pay one price and get 30-days access to unlimited standard talk & Text in Australia PLUS 3GB Data at no extra cost!

What you get with super saver?
Calls to any standard fixed line number in Australia,
Calls to any standard mobile number in Australia,
    Standard SMS to Australian numbers,
Calls to voicemail (deposit & retrieval)
3GB data Included at no extra cost
Free Calls to 1300 and 1800 numbers
    How to get the offer?
To get the Lycamobile Super Saver Plan dial just dial 1396124# and you need to have a balance of $24.00 if you don’t have enough balance click here to get extra credit, If you’re new to Lycamobile click here to order a Free SIM card.

    • It's only a better deal if you need the extra call/data capacity, otherwise you're just wasting the $12/month it costs above the $11.99 LC Medium plan!!

    • 2G network unfortunately.

    • lol i like the fact you uses Telstra to lure people. You need to check which frequency lyca is using, afaik telstra doesnt let any reseller using their 3g 850 and their 4g frequency at all. I could be wrong.

  • +4

LC is an outstanding deal. Wife and I swapped from Optus six months ago and have been very pleased with LC. The 'email only' customer support works fine if you're just a tiny bit patient. ALSO for all those people concerned about data cap overruns (with LC or any other provider) there are free apps on Android Market (and I would assume whatever Apple call theirs)that track and alert data usage. Get Smart Traffic or Data Traffic Monitor, they're both free. There's no excuse for not helping yourself….

    • ICS has an inbuilt data monitor + limiter.

  • great thanks got the 17$ plan looksgood will use for work mainly justneeds good dual SIM phone now

  • +1

LYCA uses Telstra 2G (2100mhz) network & not the 3G 850mhz, with SLOW Edge data at best. If it was 3G i woudld port in a second

  • +2

Does anyone know what the deal is with international roaming with LiveConnected? Will it come back?

I would be interested in moving over to them, but right now their page states the following in relation to international roaming:

"ATTENTION: This article is outdated. Roaming is no longer available due to new regulations being imposed by the TIO & ACMA."

    • Can anyone comment on this? It's pretty bad if so!!

From what I know, if you want to activate roaming you have to deposit $100 on your account (refundable)

      • +1

Sorry i should have stated where i got that quote from:

        http://support.liveconnected.com.au/entries/21236208-how-do-…

        • That's kind of a big deal- why!? Could it be that somebody got into a big dispute about some exorbitant roaming charges and the TIO had now stopped them being able to sell the service?

  • +1

Hmm - I need international minutes so it looks like I'll have to look at TPG - I wonder if they've ever dropped their $20 sign up fee stuff too. fingers crossed

    • i think you should just look into virgin, if you need international too. unless you have service with tpg already and your friends are using tpg.

  • Love these guys!

  • For $11.99 a month plan they give $ 500 calls. How do you find how much they charge per min and flag fall from their web site. I can only see the international call rates but not the local rates.
I am currently on Vodafone and they say that they give $450 worth of calls for $49 plan. This 450 has no meaning as they charge a ridiculous rate for local and international calls. Their roaming charges are scary.
Before I consider this plan, I need to find out how much they charge for calls. In Australian mobile plans how much dollars worth calls they give has no meaning at all.
My wife's cheap Think mobile plan has only $100 calls but she can make more calls than my $49 plan which gives $450 calls. That's because Think mobile charge few cents a call and Vodafone charge in dollars for a minute.
Any body knows where to find call rates in their web site ??

    • Don't bother.. Just found it after clicking on the plan and then details.

  • Signed up on the weekend, and the fee was waived for me as well.

    Very cool!

  • +1

No international roaming is my concern, that means I can't access internet banking while I'm overseas which relies on sms security codes :(

  • +4

Be VERY CAREFUL with this company! I strongly suspect they make the bulk of their profit from excess usage fees rather than the plans themselves. I recently got an excess usage bill of $1500, which I intent to dispute via TIO and court if necessary. I had my service options set to "Block my service" and was under the impression that my service would be blocked when I reached my specified limits. I was wrong. Somehow my data usage went to 4.5GB last month (not even sure how, disputing this also). I also thought I would recive an SMS warning when I reached 80% of my usage allowance. I DID NOT receive any SMS warning. The first notification I got was an email saying my excess was $1100 and my service would be block. The next day I got another eamil saying my excess was $1400 even though my service was blocked! Dodgy as. When I asked for my case to be escalated, I got zero response….needless to say I am now an ex LC customer and I feel like a real idiot having recommended LC to so many family and friends. If there is any chance you will go over your data allowance or if you expect any customer service, DO NOT USE LIVECONNECTED! Also, because they are not contactable, good luck trying to port your number to another provider should you ever want to leave them. You will most likely have to get a new number like I did.

    • +3

      download 3g watchdog, problem solved.

      • Do you know of anything similar to 3G Watchdog for iOS?

      • +2

Good idea, but I thought the "Block my service option" on the LC customer website would do the same thing. I now know it doesn't, so just warning other potential customers.

      • +3

Android phones on ICS and above also have a data counter with a limit feature built-in to the OS.

You can also assign permissions to specific apps so they can only access data in the background over wifi, so you won't have unseen apps eating up your quota.

    • +4

      @billy_bob

There are many possibilities your usage went that high.

If your phone is an android one:
-Do you leave 3g mode on & also have apps set to auto update?
-You had it tethered & had torrents going on your pc/laptop?
-Maybe you had it in hotspot mode (w/o wep or wpa) & someone accessed it?
-Or possibly your phone data syncing to cloud non-stop?
-Lastly do you watch a lot of youtube?

Simplest solution to a common problem:- Remember to turn off 3G when not in use.

      • +2

How can you not realize you've downloaded 4.5 gig?
Thats a shiteload for mobile internet usage.

If you're tethering then that's to be expected and your own fault for not checking your usage.

    • That's strange.
Around a year ago, I had to download excess via phone tethering because my ADSL was down (iinet).
Even though I went over and downloaded heaps(few hundred MB), the excess was capped at $20.

Maybe you just didn't set it to 'block your service'?
It's on the 'Excess Management' page.

  • They seem to have a lot of excess charges but if you're smart about it, it looks like you can operate a cheap phone service.

I'm on the TPG $17.99 ($550 cap) plan - is this considered post paid or pre paid and does anyone know where to find the TPG account # for porting?

    • +1

      Post Paid.

Log in and go to Account Statement to get ID#

  • Does anyone here know what LiveConnected charge for 13/1300/1800 numbers on the Medium cap? I can't find it anywhere on their site. Have sent in a ticket but maybe I can crowd-source an answer quicker? :)

    • Here ya go: http://www.liveconnected.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/B…

Its included as part of the $500 'Talk and text to anyone' allowance part of the plan.
So it would be standard costs:
      -Voice/Video call 90c/min, Flagfall 35c

1st min costs $1.25 then 90c each additional min per call

      • Thanks, I've been assuming this. TPG charges higher amounts for these calls ($1.02-$1.24 per min). I'm hoping that LC treat them as standard calls, but I have to wonder.

  • Signed up! Have been considering LC for a month and this prompted me to do it

  • +1

Just got the XXL plan, almost exactly half the price I'm paying with Tel$tra atm, but for more value.

Hopefully the reception doesn't differ too much.

    • +1

      almost exactly…..

      • +1

        Almost. Exactly.

  • +8

Thanks to this deal.. I spoke to the customer service at Three (my contract ends this month) and referred to this deal without any questions asked, they offered me $180 worth of calls + 400MB of data for $5.00!!!! :o

To top this, they confirmed that this change will not roll me over to Vodafone(therefore I'll still enjoy Telstra roaming until I can anyway!!)

    • Well done, that's the OzB spirit. :)

  • Great Deal

Been with them for around 6 months good prices. +Rep

  • what will they charge for a swap to a nano sim next week? with 4G?

  • does anyone know if LC's international voice calls are part of the $500 cap or deducted from monthly fee

for e.g $11.99 plan is the same amt to be spend on int. calls

    • As I understand it, no international calls are included in the cap. Any overseas calls will incur additional fees to the $12 plan.

If you want international calls, go with tpg, http://www.tpg.com.au/mobile/plans.php

  • +1

Is there any way to avoid " I agree that my service(s) will be auto activated 24 hours after delivery.".. my vodafone contract doesn't finish till a week or two.

    • +1

Order a couple of days from now… & don't answer the door to sign for the package's delivery… pick-up - from courier's depot - at your covenience (but in time to -preclude- them sending it back to LC).

If you only need a week, that may do the trick, but two weeks I -wouldn't- try to push it to.

    • +2

I ordered one yesterday morning, awaiting delivery, and when I log into my account and click MY SERVICES then NUMBER TO BE ASSIGNED there's a screen where it says:

Your SIM will be activated on 17th Sep, 2012 . Activate Now Delay Activation (Attempts Left: 5)
Please contact us if you wish to delay activation for more than five days.

The "Activate Now" is a button and "Delay Activation" is a link. So looks like that will look after you!

  • woo just received an email that the simcard's in the post.

  • Does anyone know….if we can change your existing plan for free?

    • +1

I doubt you can, there will still be a fee

      • I believe it's $16 to change plans

  • Is there a way around the license id that they ask for when you order.

    • I don't think so as it's probably for a credit check/ACMA verification.

  • sent a query to LC re deferring activation - btw they responded the next day which is ok

"The maximum length in which we would manually delay your activation is 2 weeks. Hence, if you ordered today, the latest it would be activated is 26th September.
If you do decide you want to manually delay your activation by up to 2 weeks, once your order, please notify us - the support team - via a ticket that you wish for this to happen, and then we can implement it for you."

so despite 5 Delay Activations it might not get you far

  • +1

Signed up yesterday, received my sim today by Express Post. Activated and ported across in under two hours after I sent the request through. All pretty fast!

    • Same here. Impressed by them so far!
