Affiliate Link Restrictions

Hi, user #19 here. ;)

Can you please clarify this rule:

"You are limited to 2 posts (including forum posts) a week containing affiliate links."

Is it:

  1. Per calendar week? (starting Sunday? starting Monday?)

  2. Based on initial item? (i.e. if list an item with aff link on Wednesday, can do one more until next Wednesday)

I wasn't clear on reading it and had an affiliate link removed unexectedly (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/84595). I was able to create the deal without problem, and saw a message about not being able to create more than 2 aff links per week when trying to edit it, so it all appeared fine and within the rules.

Thanks,
Gav

  • Hi Gav, the week is rolling. i.e. it looks at how many aff link posts you have created in the past 7 days.

You will see a warning when you start typing your third post. The automated checking that parses the new deal for affiliate links happens after you post the deal, so if you continue with an affiliate link in the post, the system picks it up and sends a report to the moderators.

Edit: If you wish to start a non-public discussion with moderators, please use the Talk with a Moderator post.

  • Thanks moocher, it's clear now.

To advise, I don't recall seeing a warning when writing my third post, only when editing it, but perhaps I missed it.

    • No worries. The edit form is the same form for a new post, so it should have been there along the top.
