Tablets for person with a disibility

My sister who is 40 and has Down syndrome recently was in hospital and loved playing games on my Nexus 7 like Angry birds. I would like to get her a touch pad for Christmas but don't want an expensive one as she doesn't really need 3g and won't be surfing the net. WiFi would be enough and perhaps a camera. Can anyone recommend a lower price touch screen pad that would be under $150?

  • Just letting you know, use the keyword 'tablets' rather than 'touch pads' & more people will take notice.

If you search OzB, OCAU & Whirlpool for Ainol & Cube, you'll find some cheap Chinese brand tablets that are quite well regarded by both communities along with links to various reputable resellers. There's a few different models, but the upshot is that you'll get a pretty decent 7" for ~$100, 8" for ~$160 or a 10" for ~$200. Hope this helps! :)

  • Yeah for ~$150 you might want to consider something like Ainol Novo7 Fire — spec wise almost as good as a Nexus 7 except poorer build quality and might take a month for delivery from those Hong Kong/Guangdong stores — which might not be a good idea if you wish to give it to your sister NOW while she is in the hospital. Most Australian stock $150 tablets are pretty crap quality though.

Alternatively to the Ainol Fire, if you're looking for an 8 inch tablet:
Cube U23GT sells for $120~130 dollars, just pay for Fedex delivery and you'll have your tablet fairly soon-ish.

    • Yes, the battery life is good on u23gt compare to other cheaper 7 " tablets but no hdmi and bluetooth. Or u18gt elite for $95 with 5% retailmenot at lightake is good too.

      • Don't think she would be needing HDMI or Bluetooth by the sounds of it, could be wrong though.

  • Thanks all for your advice. I actually ordered an Ainol Mars tablet but they had to refund my order due to problems with lithium batteries and China and hong Kong post. How do I get around this problem?

Ah! Stewballs I just reread your answer and saw your reference to resellers. Thanks I will try those.

  • i wouldnt chance an Ainol here

you really want a reliable and hard wearing tablet

in that light i can barely recommend a Nexus 7 with the slew of screen lifting and other QC issues it has…

    for $150 it'd be a tough ask

  • Check out the range at dinodirect.
I've purchased 2 different Ainol tablets ( Nova & Flame) from them, both excellent & they have much cheaper ones as well.
