That looks like a cheap Chinese no name brand phone with customisation mimicking HTC Sense. A very low end phone indeed:

    • MTK6515 — sucky CPU
    • 256MB RAM — good luck running ICS with apps smoothly with it
    • GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz — no 2100MHz?

Anyway. At $95 delivered it might be cheap. Just google "MTK6515" will yield you a lot other other similar crap phones at similar price (each copying the look of other branded phones). ikOala is okay, but this phone is not.

    • that's not even cheap, specs are very out dated and will give you endless grief. plenty of prepaid brand name phones around 100 that are easily unlocked for a small fee if you are willing to access the shady part of the internet

Already beaten by the Defy+ from Telstra for $99?

Another vote for the Telstra Defy+ deal. I bought one and followed the instructions on the forums here to install CM9.

I couldnt be more chuffed with it. It actually plays most of my Android games and the waterproof feature is a nice bonus.

    • Is the Defy+ ok on Optus network?

According to anectdotes, it appears to work fine on Optus but it requires some tinkering with baseband.

I am on TPG (Optus network). Note however that you have to reflash the phone in order to make the most of it on the Optus network.

The phone works fine, the only issue is whether it can receive Optus regional 900mhz 3g signal. Normally 3g reception is hardware dependent, however, in the case of the Defy+ it seems plausible at least that the reception settings can be changed in the software.

I have been able to use a 3g signal at Eatons Hill, which theoretically at least should not be within the 2100 mhz network.

        see here for instance
