Can you please post the receipt of the My Book Live 2TB price matched? Dicksmith does not have stock anywhere, so I am afraid officeworks won't honor it.

    • Never mind, no one wants to take risk to post the receipt during the promotional period.

  • Anyone know if you can get the WD to power down attached HDDs? Seems mine is on constantly when the WD is off. Be pretty crap if it can, my Toshiba TV can so this kind of sucks.

    • Really? What type? USB powered or power brick?

  • USB 2.5 WD passport :(

    • Wow spewing, that is exactly what I intend to use. So what is going on? The USB port remains powered up when the unit is off? Strange. I think the passport drive is supposed to spin down on its own after a certain period of inactivity. Did you give it a decent waiting time? It cant just sit there spinning all night with the unit in standby…. can it?

  • Yeah gave it a while and didnt power down. Still has the LED going which is why i want it off as its my bedroom and im a bad sleeper with any light. Also for longevity of the HDDs i want it to power down. Looks like it and i highly doubt there is a setting on the WDTV to change how USB power is dealt with. See what others experience and go from there.

  • +3

Found a solution online. So if you turn the WDTV off the usb will go into standby mode and the attached HDD will no power down. SOLUTION: Hold down power button on the WDTV for 5 seconds and the HDD will power down as that will power down the USB from standby mode. Tested it and works ;D

    • Nice one.
I haven't opened mine yet so I was kinda disappointed for it to be annoying me with bad behavior before I have even seen it but you found the cure, so well done!

      BTW.
What were WD's engineers smoking when they designed that port? Its more like the kind of annoyance you'd find on a generic Chinese one. This is the third incarnation of this machine.

      • Just came home, and found my hard drive was still on! That IS stupid!

The old WDTV live didn't do that…you didn't have to hold power down, the Hdd would turn off with the WDTV. What a stupid design change!

        • The old WDTV used to unmount the drive before powering the USB bus off - but then would stay powered on (although the display would be off, you could still telnet into it) - 'powering' it 'back on' would actually force a reboot - and thus the drive would remount.

This new unit is the same, except it doesn't reboot from a power on, it 'resumes' - if you eject the drive, but leave it plugged in, and power the unit on with the power button, it resumes quickly, thus must stay in a low powered state, not off - hence the USB bus and LAN remaining powered when off.

The long press power off is a nice touch.

Anyone have a good watt meter that can measure low current accurately? Would be nice to see the draw when on, suspended, and off.

  • Only other thing does anyone know how to get into Youtube channels to see all the videos? Was wishing the interface of youtube was similar to ICS youtube app. Also the start of the search bar is cut off and therefore cant be seen which is a bit weird? Main thing im seeing is the WDTV is good if your TV doesnt support DTS (and for Netflix/Hulu), other than that my TVs pretty much do everything the WDTV does.

    • You looked for firmware updates? These rough edges surprise me.

  • Yeah first thing i did was update firmware. Might have to look into custom firmware if that even exists or is possible to flash it.

  • Does anyone know if it's possible to manually specify a samba ip address instead of selecting hostnames from the list? Seems like a pretty glaring omission. Another issue is the web interface is total crap but oh well. iView works really well which is a big plus from me.

    • What TV you got, seems most if not all but Sony have iView and SBS on demand.

  • Pricematched at the Good guys in Bunbury WA (the guy in computer area is really straight up and helpful). Paid for with old giftcards that I got 20% - must be somewhere around $30 after all rebates and discounts calculated - very happy - thanks Ozbargainers

  • This WDTV does not work with the HDMI I bought from ShoppingSquare. Does anyone have the same problem?

    • I am using HDMI and it works. Not sure about shopping square.

For anyone that purchased from Officeworks that would have had an eligible claim except for having thrown their receipt away, don't worry … go back into the OW outlet you purchased it from, show them your bank statement which has the transaction on it, and they will find and re-print the invoice for you. They did this for me yesterday.

  • OW at Ferntree Gully (Melb) have atleast 100 units available

  • When I tried to register for the promotion, after filled in all the details in the first step and click next, it always go back to the same page with all the details removed. Never can get to next page of "upload proof".

    Any idea? Thanks.

    • try 100 times with different browsers and never can get through the first page in the link. I think WD probably has closed the promotion and I will return it to Officework tomorrow

      • i just did mine using the chrome and it went through..i had got it from OW this morning..

      • i just submitted my claim it went through fine not sure why its not working for you.

      • Used chrome and it worked fine.

      • +1 Firefox

      • After seeing you guys’ replies I tried it again in my Android mobile with Dolphin and finally got accepted. So I guess it was something wrong in my work computer rather than the browser or WD website.
Very happy and many thanks for the heads up!

    • great album!

  • As Annon123 noted earlier, Alexandria NSW has stacks. Went there this morning and they had about two dozen. Glebe had none. Sold out yesterday.

  • Ow Clarence st had none but HN Martin Place had quite a few and got them to price match.

  • I got my WD TV Live Steaming delivered from Officeworks today.

I followed the link to wdpromo.com.au, filled in all the required info submitted the two photos when asked clicked next on the submit photos screen and it took me back to the first page.

Now I'm not sure if it submitted correctly or not. Usually these things have a "you're in the draw" page, or "entry confirmed" page, but here - nothing.

I've also had no email confirmation in the 30 minutes or so since submitting.

    So my question is:

Do we get a confirmation of successfully submitting a claim, and if so, where and when?

Edit: I just tried entering my info again, but was stopped on the first screen when entering my serial number with a "Sorry, this serial number has already been registered." pop-up. So I guess it accepted my entry. I'm going to email them just to make sure.

    I'm using Firefox 17.0.1 on W7HP.

    • At first glance, I thought it had taken me to the first page. It wasn't though, but it looked pretty much the same - orange with text everywhere, and the field for an additional serial number. The text was congratulatory though, and saying I was in the draw for the grand prize, blah blah. Maybe that's what happened? Only thinking it's a possibility because I missed it too until I actually read anything.

  • Has anyone got this working with a Macbook Pro running mountain lion?
Seems like sharing between Macs and WDTV hasnt been running smoothly since Lion was released by apple.
I'll be returning this if I cant get it working over the weekend.

  • Submitted claim last night.. got the confirmation email but nothing as yet about it being approved.
How long does it usually take? Any ideas?

  • Can I return the WD Tv to officeworks if I dont like it?

  • +1

Does anyone else REALLy like the back of the remote on the WD TV? It feels so nice and smooth. Major positive+

    • +1

Yep,would be perfect if the buttons were backlit.

  • Thanks OP. just got one from JB. TGG refused to price match and said $120 is the best they can do and the staff from HN tried to sell me this one (model WDBAAP0000NBK) http://www.harveynorman.com.au/netgear-neotv-ultimate-hd-med… for $97 and refused to sell http://www.harveynorman.com.au/western-digital-tv-live-strea… for $99 saying they are slightly different model even though the model number ( WDBGXT0000NBK) is the same( i am sure this man have no idea what he talking about and i wondered why the people like that with zero knowledge to product that they are selling still got the job). Finally that was JB price match with no question asked.

    • Awesome, glad it all worked out :). Happy holidays

  • Good Guys priced matched worked for me. $99 and used the Auspost gift cards. Love the deal. Not so happy with the Wireless performance though, seems like a pretty weak receiver.

  • Just got it, connected to my HDTV. But seems all my mkv files are not supported (~100 of them). How come?

  • What format mate?

    • x264, mkv etc. I have 100+ of mkv, non of them able to play. is my setting problem?

      • Custom firmware should fix it:
        http://wiki.wdlxtv.com/Main_Page

        • Not for live steaming

      • It must be something you're doing. Such files not working are the exception rather than the rule with these units.

  • Purchased a WD TV Live last night, and came online this morning to register for the Gift Card Promo. I got an error message saying, "Sorry, this serial number has already been registered". NOT HAPPY !!!

Emailed WD just then and maybe call Office Works later today and see what they have to say.

    Any other suggestions ?

    • Someone scanned and used it or returned it? Hmmm…

    • Wonder if someone did a typo entering info too.

  • Plenty of stock at Officeworks Fairfield NSW.

  • Did a price match ($99) at JB Hifi in Top Ryde. Plenty of stock.

  • No Stock at Officeworks Adelaide St Brisbane. Went to JBHIFI in Queen st mall $99 price match no worries. Submitted claim to WD Last night went through and got an email.

Now Watching American Cable tv On my Wd Live with Sling Player App.

    Thanks Ozbargains!

    • You need to have a slingbox to play Sling player yea?

      • Just need to find someone who hosts them about $80 month for 500 channels or so.

    How about a 2TB NAS for $119?

    Get this:
    http://dicksmith.com.au/product/XM1275/western-digital-my-bo…
for $169 and get $50 off with the same deal (can have 5 WD products with the same details)
    Anyone seen it cheaper?

    EDIT:
can always use the Officeworks trick to make it $160.55 - $50 = $110.55

    • +1

      OW price is $249. Price match will be $156.55 - $50 = $106.55

      • +2

        Its $160.55 as above.
I just got back from Officeworks. Grabbed this, assuming the rebate of $50 comes through without problems its is an awesome deal. 2TB NAS for $110.

        • Looks like a great way to get a good deal. I'm much more interested in a NAS than the TV live thing. I just can't find a good price for the 3TB, otherwise I'll have to go for this 2TB option.

Any help with a good price on the 3TB My Book Live?

        • +1

          http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/83165

I got the 3TB priced matched at JB HiFi for $189.95 with no problem :)

        • very nice, thanks heaps!! I'll probably be visiting Officeworks and/or JB hifi tomorrow

        • Just an update,Officeworks gave me a price match no problems with the printed receipt linked above. Got the 3TB for $189.95

  • Is there a limit of cashback they're offering. I don't mean per household, i mean overall. As in 10,000 claims, 20'000 claims like most promo's have. They have a date of up to the 24 of Dec for purchases.

    • It didn't mention a cap on the number of entries in their T & C's.

  • Stock in some OW stores in SE Qld. 144 reported in stock at Southport.

  • Just purchased a WDTV Live Streaming from Officeworks Highett, Vic, redeemed and got a confirmation email immediately.

    Reading the T & C's, #10 states:

"Multiple entries permitted, subject to the following: (a) only one (1) entry and claim permitted per specified Eligible Product purchased during the Promotional Period"

This seems to be able to be interpreted 2 ways -

    1) You can only make one claim for each unique item purchased, eg you may make a claim on ONE WDTV Live Streaming, and ONE MyBook Live, but not 2 x WDTV Live Streaming purchases,

or 2) - The obvious - you may only claim once for each purchase.

Does anyone else read it like this?

    Thoughts?

  • Thought this was a great deal so I picked one up this afternoon - unfortunately, after using it for 30 mins I found out that this is a piece of trash and it is going straight back tomorrow morning.

    • +1

Wow - care to elaborate Klone? I have a WDTV Live and am pretty impressed by this upgrade so far.

    • best hd streaming product for the price i have ever used!

  • +2

Tried like 10 times on each web browser and it didn't work, just kept jumping back to the start fill in form or that server error page. Until i read AaronPoz post where pic sizes had to be around 200 kb. Did that, worked instantly and got a confirmation email. Thanks

  • I know I may not compare apple to apple. For those who have PS3 and use it for media hub as well. How would you compare WDTV and PS3 in term of performance and usability. I don't have a PS3, but been thinking in getting it for media hub/streaming. I feel that WDTV's performance is quiet bad and not really user's friendly. All of my vids (non-streaming) start without sound for a couple of secs regardless the file type. If I got my $50 gift card then I'll be happy enough with this unit BUT i don't think it's worth $100. I always thought PS3 is a good device not only for gaming but also for media playing (stream and non stream). I would guess WDTV at least should be more user's friendly if not performing better. Please, kindly give some inputs. Thanks.

    • I've got both a PS3 and the WD, which i brought to replace the PS3 as a media streaming device. The PS3 is great, but you still need to run a media server to serve files to the PS3. Unless of course your sitting on an older firmware and have it running CFW, which i don't like to mess with since i game online.
The WD is better, because now i'm browsing files directly off my network shares and the one important feature, or lack of is it doesn't have the cinavia stuff on it. Sony put this in back in FW 3.61 or something.
I mean sure you can get around it on the PS3 by using a particular media server, but with the WD that eliminates the need entirely. Also you need to remember the PS3 doesn't play every format out of the box without help from a media server.

  • Can't upload receipt successfully. Stuck on loading. Help?

    • Make sure file size is below 500k or try different browser

      • Mine were between 600k and 700k and seemed to upload fine.

  • For anyone in Sydney trying to buy these, they seem to be all out of stock. I called about 4 or 5 different places today and none of them have any =/

    • I bought one around midday today at Officeworks Woodville Rd Old Guildford (near Fairfield NSW). They had four remaining after I got mine.

    • If you're on the North Shore, Mosman have some stock.

  • Does the WD gift card then have to be used to purchase another WD product?

    Thanks norton

    • Like many other cash-back promotions, I believe this is just a WD branded $50 card that can be used anywhere that takes EFTPOS i.e. you can use it pretty well anywhere for anything.

      • +1

        Many thanks .

  • Got one today at Harvey Norman at Highpoint Vic, Officeworks were out of stock, but Harveys had heaps of them. Priced at $149, advertised at $134, but they price matched for $98.

    • Would you be able to upload a copy of your Harvey Norman receipt, masking your private details of course?
I will be going to Highpoint, but don't like my chances of them price matching if Officeworks are now out of stock (both in-store and online)

    • Oops, never mind got it sorted :)

  • Has anyone confirmed you can claim back on more than 1 WD TV Live purchased? I was thinking of getting a few as gifts for Christmas, just wondering if it was valid?

    • +1

Multiple entries permitted, subject to the following: (a) only one (1) entry and claim permitted per specified Eligible Product purchased during the Promotional Period

      I.e use different family names

  • Tried to submit forms multiple times with FF and Chrome. File sizes 460k and 367k. Any other ideas?

    • +1

Try getting them under 200k. Mine were 155k and 110k and it worked fine.

      • Got them to 199 with Irfan but still no good. Try again tomorrow.

        • Still no good on Chrome or FF. Trying other PC.

Got mine from JB Hifi Camberwell for $116 (OW in hawthorn were out of stock). I have unblock us set up on my modem/router, so once I updated the firmware in the wdtv, i was able to access hulu plus and netflix (phew!).

I had to resize my photos as well in order to submit the online form. Opened up in office 2010 viewer and resized them to the 'documents' profile. Not too sure how small that file size is, but it worked.

This is a great find, thanks cloudsdbz and fellow ozbargainers!

    • Hi Just wondering if we're using unblock us trial, is there any expiry date when it will stop working? Or will it go forever? Thanks.

  • Yea after 7 days your trial will expire. I presume they use your IP address to block you from using their DNS somehow, but I'm only guessing.

Once your week is up you will get a trial ending email and instructions on how to sign up, if you choose to stick with them.

    I hope that helps :)

Just picked mine up at JB Hi Fi Townsville for $95, I found when submitting your claim make sure that the file size of your attachments is small. My claim kept failing when trying to submit so I reduced my pics sizes from 1.5mb to 200kb and it went through
