  • Hi Guys,

Just wondering do any one having issues in submitting the online form and proof of purchase for $50 cash back. I'm trying since Monday but no luck. Tried 3 different browsers firefox, chrome, IE. My file size is total 260 kb in JPEG format but still not working. Any idea why?

    Thanks

    • Try getting it around 150kb. I used IE. But it probably would've worked with chrome also. Just have to get the files really small.

    • Same with me. Tried 2 different PC's as well. File sizes 190k.

Dont know what Im supposed to do. Sent the inquiries email address an email but not holding my breath.

      • Yeah, just tried reducing my image sizes.

        Worked instantly.

Combined images size were about 100K

  • FYI officeworks wooloongabba has them on the shelf

  • +1

Harvey Norman @ Auburn just price matched the officeworks price for me

    • Were there any issues with it being out of stock at Officeworks?

      • +1

The sales guy didnt check stock, only price, although the OW site does report some in stock in stores.

        • Ah of course.. I didn't think to check store availability - I was just going by online store stock! THanks!

  • Just tried to get the WD Mybook Live 3TB from both JB and OW to priematch from the uploaded receipt provided in the links above but got knocked back!! :(

JB said they would only match the current advertised current price and OW said they would not pricematch reciepts!!

  • Did anyone try to connect a portable HDD to WD live streaming?

I failed and the WD device is freezing.

My portable HDD is in ntfs format.

    Any help?

    • Try leaving it plugged in for a couple of days. The wdtv box needs to index the drive. Can take a while but it gets there eventually. Oh, and check if you have the latest firmware from the wd website. (upgrade is required for larger drives).

    • +1

@cliro, It seems you’ve updated the firmware to the latest (1.12.14), which makes the devise freezes for a couple of minutes every time you connect it to a hard drive. To resolve this problem rollback to the previous firmware (1.11.14) which resolves this problem completely. You can find it and instruction of how to do the rollback here:

      http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5860

      • Honestly, I too noticed that the performance is worse after the firmware upgrade. The video started with no sound for the first 2-3 secs. Initially, I thought it's a defective unit but after the 2nd unit, I found out after firmware upgrade it does the same thing. BTW, anyone knows what the big advantage of the upgrade? Otherwise I'm really tempted to roll back.

      • I thought you needed the firmware upgrade to handle large drives? Mine didn't work out of the box with a 2tb drive, once I upgraded firmware there was a bit of a lag when first browsing a new area of the disk but it seems to index the content so it doesn't lag in future.

  • Hey guys,

Is there an issue with having 2 of these playing off the same computer (running Serviio) simultaneously?

I bought 1 for the parents during the $88 deal and considering getting a second for a second room (especially since its $49 after cash back!)

    Thanks

    • I'd assume it's no different to hanging two clients off your video server. Maybe change name of one to make it easier when controlling it from a smartphone?

  • Is anybody else have trouble redeeming at wdpromo.com.au ??

I put all my details in, but when I submit it, it goes to this page http://www.wdpromo.com.au/25words/v_register.php which comes up blank, so i don't think that I am registered. The 14 day limit is fast approaching….

    • +1

make sure you arent sending huge attachemnts. Seems to be the biggest issue o make sure the attachment sizes are reasonable.

      • I am an idiot - one of the files was 1.3mb. I reduced it, and it went thru fine. Thanks.

  • Anyone still waiting on their cashback?

    • +1

      I think everyone still is?

      • Just received an e-mail…

"Thank you for your recent entry into the WD Christmas promotion.

The popularity of this promotion has been overwhelming, to the point where our claims centre has been inundated with entries.

As a result, all entries will be verified in the first half of January and the $50 gift cards will be sent to eligible participants by the end of the month."

        • Same. Probably to stop people from return it after getting the gift card.

        • same email here…

  • Is there any free VPN providers that anyone has come across? I'm hoping to avoid the $5/month with unblock US. Or anyone out there cheaper than $5/month?

    • Specifically for Netflix?

      If not http://tunlr.net/

      • Yeah for Netflix. Unless you can access something else using tunlr?

    • Dont think so. Your just gonna have to ante up im afraid. Netflix seems to generate way to much traffic for the free DNS unblocker's

  • There may be hope for homebrew yet - http://guimli.free.fr/?p=154

I don't know what can happen from here, but it seems to be a start I suppose…

EDIT: We're all smart here, but just making sure - DON'T FLASH YOUR WD LIVE YET, the keys still haven't been decrypted and you'll lose your steaming abilities!!! It's just s sign of progress - tis all :)

Are we pretty sure on getting the $50 cash back? I don't particularly want to go dropping 200 bucks if I'm not getting $100 back :s

  • +1

To confirm what 'eligible' actually means I e-mailed them, so this is straight from the horses mouth:

    Eligible refers to:
    * Correct product purchased
    * That it was purchased in an Authorised Retailer
    * 25 Words or less has mentioned Western Digital/WD, an eligible product and a benefit of that product
    * Claimed within 14 days of purchase
    * Purchased on or after 26/11/12

The 'tricky' bit is the 25 words or less and including the correct details, although I am sure I have fulfilled these requirements.

I was actually waiting until I had the gift card in my hand before opening and using it, otherwise I would return the product because it is not as great a deal for $99…

    • And before 26/12/12?

    • Well I think that pretty much sums up that the 50 bucks will be coming our way! As long as the 25 words or less mention the product, WD and benefit. Good going!

  • Also be aware it looks like we wont be getting our redemptions until late Jan now due to the success of this promo. Got an meial update from WD yesterday. Was hoping for them before EOY but donesnt look like it now.

  • Is this worth $50?

    "24. • Sure is.

  • Purchased through the online Harvey Norman store and will hopefully receive it today (Same day delivery) or tomorrow.

I presume a screenshot of the receipt (Which will be emailed to me) would be sufficient enough proof?

I just didn't want to have missed any guidelines saying that it had to be purchased from a Authorised retailer's 'instore'.

    • Might not be sufficient adamg03. Here's the response I got last week from them when asking if I could make the purchase online:

      Thank you for your enquiry.

As per the terms of conditions (section 4) the purchase must be made in one of the Authorised retail stores in order to claim the $50 gift card.

      Kind regards
      WD Promo Team

      • Thanks. I went ahead and purchased it and just submitted so will wait to hear back on a verification. My mistake before, it was from officeworks. My receipt doesn't realy distinguish too much so who knows how it will go. Will let you guys know but unsure if I will go ahead and open it just yet.

Has anyone had their order "verified"? I am wondering how long this might take.

  • @#$% Purchased mine on the 5/12/12 now it's 15 days @#$% I haven't claimed yet and it's past 14 days

    • I overlooked the 14 days part too… Lucky I had yet to open it. Just returned it to officeworks today for full refund. $49 is good, but $99 not a great deal.

      • I rang my local OW and explained the situation to them. They kindly returned it and recharged it so I had a current receipt.

  • Am I correct in saying the WDTV Live streaming (can now/will soon be able to) download torrents using custom firmware (http://wiki.wdlxtv.com/Main_Page)?

What's the big selling point in getting one of these, over one of the Anroid HDMI media player stick's (like from Dealextreme)?

    • No. SMP is NOT supported by any custom firmware.

      • Ok cheers for that. Could one of those Android based USB stick's do this kind of thing?

  • +1

Hi all long time reader, first time poster

I picked up a WD TV Live streaming unit tonight at jbhifi hornsby nsw for $99, they have a special for $125 but i said officeworks has it for $99 and both north sydney/castle hill stores have stock. They marked down my unit for $99 without hesitation.

For anyone with ING i purchased this with paywave which gets me 5% off as its under $100

so after the gift card and paywave discount the unit will come down to $44.05 … not a bad bargain after all :)

  • Anyone purchase from Office Works online?

I did and asked the WD Promo Team a question about submission dates (including that I purchased from Office Works) and they replied with this:

    Hi mryekim

    Thank you for your enquiry.

You say that you had your product delivered to you. Therefore was it a web order? If so, unfortunately your product is not eligible for our cash card promotion. To be eligible, the product must be purchased in an Authorised Retailer (section 4 in Terms and Conditions).

    Kind regards
    WD Promo Team

I'm waiting for a reply but If this is the case, that means I'll need to return it and the re-purchase it again in-store!? ridiculous!

    • Well this sucks. How long do you have to return something to office works? Can it be returned if you've already opened it and been using it?

Edit - Not that i didn't believe you, but i emailed them anyways. I have changed my name though. They responded in 2 mintues!

      Hi Max Power

      Thank you for your enquiry.

You have to purchase an eligible product in one of the Authorised Stores. So yes, your online purchase won’t be eligible.

If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us.

      • There doesnt seem to be a return timeframe listed on the website, it just says to contact the listed number etc. I also think all of the Officeworks around my way (Perth) do not have stock so I am just wondering if Harvey Norman or anywhere will match the online price of $99.

EDIT: I haven't opened my box and only ordered it on Wednesday so I think I will go ahead and return it due to "Change of mind".

        OFFICEWORKS WEBSITE
        Our Returns Policy
If any product you purchase from us is faulty, damaged (through no fault of your own), not fit for its usual purpose, or you have simply changed your mind we will gladly exchange it, refund it or can arrange for it to be repaired subject to the specific points below.

        What we ask of you:
•When returning your purchase please bring your original receipt.
•Where possible please return the product in its original packaging.

        • Eitherway just to be safe. Went to Harvey Norman. Pricematched $99.

Called Officeworks, organised the refund and return, they will come and pick it up sometime in the near future and I have already been refunded my $99 through paypal.

Now just to submit my cashback for the WDTV purchased from Harvey Norman.

    • +4

Officeworks IS an authorised retailer, online or otherwise, one would have thought

  • I just grabbed one from JB, they price matched no problem.

I can't seem to get Netflix/Hulu to appear. I've changed my DNS with Tunlr, but it's still not showing up. I've also updated the firmware. Do I need to do the firmware updated when I'm on a tunlr DNS?

    Anyone else having this problem?

I might return it, main reason I got it was for Netflix/Hulu anyway…

  • Just got another one from JB HiFi Thomastown Vic for $90. Original price was 125, I ask for price match, but they marked down to $90. awesome.

    • lucky you!

  • SO it's confirmed- online shopping from the reseller isn't counted!? I was about to pick up the My Net N600 from Bing lee ($89- only $39 after cashback!) but is it too late!?!

  • Well I've finally got a WDTV Live setup, and I was using Netflix for a couple of days (using an ublock-us trail). However, it is now showing the "Title not available…Please select another title" error.

Anyone else had this problem? Idea's?

  • Anyone got there cashback yet?? Bought 5 ad stillnutin after claiming???
But i did receive 1 email saying that its gona be delayed till january cos too many claims?

    • +1

So, based on the email that cashback is delayed until January, what are you expecting to happen outside that?

The current email states when you claim:
"Once your entry is verified, your gift card will be delivered to the address you provided by 30 January, 2013."

  • Just received an email asking to re-upload the photo of the receipt, apparently it wasn't clear enough (looked fine to me). They gave me until Jan 7th to send them the new picture.
So sounds like they're working through the claims.
Unfortunately I didn't put both units through OfficeWorks on different receipts, fingers crossed they both get approved.

    • Same here, didn't keep the box or the images, I hope the receipt is enough.

      • You could easily go into a shop and take a photo of a WDTV box, just put it on an empty part of the shelf and take a happy snap.

        • The box has a serial number on it. Not sure if this is what they are after.

        • My photo was of the front of the box and you can't see the serial number.

    • Same here. My cynical side is saying they want to make it hard to claim - a lot of people may be on holiday and find it impossible to re-send stuff by the monday deadline.

      • I guess it's so people don't return them after claiming the cash back… That's understandable, but what if someone threw away the boxes or gave it to someone as a gift?

  • I jsut got an email claiming I didn't submit a picture of the box, which is true, because it NEVER asked for one!

    (this is for the NAS)

"To submit your entry, simply scan or take a photo of the receipt you were given from the store where you bought your WD product – and upload it here. Please make sure the scan or photo is clear and the details are readable."

    No mention of box!

    • Just saw your post after putting up my question (below) - I'm getting the same thing - if I get back into the form now it's asking for it, but I'm sure it didn't originally.

      • Some products ask for it, others don't.

    • yes I got the same email email as well. The problem is they didn't tell me which products, since I bought 2 different WD product. It seem they're playing with the xmas redemption.

  • Did the redemption always ask for a picture of the box? I just got an email from WD saying that I hadn't included a picture of the box, but I can't recall it asking for it! I included the serial #. If I try and submit another to test it out it won't accept it without it, so I can't see that it could have been mandatory in the first place.

Painful as I've given it as a gift , and they've been generous ~cough~ enough to give me until Monday to supply it.. lovely.

This wasn't something they added along the way due to the response was it?

    • I claimed a few days after OP posted the deal and it wasrequested a picture of the box.

        • Yep: I agree with aldoduco - I needed to submit a picture of the box.

        • Wow, how odd - seems some got it and others didn't. I recall getting exactly what PainToad had posted. I had a camera the box and receipt all in front of me when I submitted it, so I would have done it if asked for. I can't see that I would have 'accidently' put the same image for both things.

I've responded to them saying the same so we'll see what they come back with.

        • I got asked for both the receipt and a picture of the box when I first did it.

  • My claim number was 10xx. If they started at 1, that's over $50,000 worth of cashback. Can't blame them for hoping some people won't respond in time.

    • Obviously the number wasn't incremental.

      • +1

What makes you think that? My second claim was 3 numbers higher than my first, claims were put through within 15 minutes of each other - seems about right.

        • Well the invoicing from my company started at #100001.
Would've been nice to have the extra 100,000 sales previously!

        • Agreed. but we're only talking 1000 and I certainly wasn't one of the first to jump on this deal. Companies start invoice numbers at a high number for good reason, which doesn't apply to claim numbers.

  • Trying to make a claim, and after the upload is successful the next screen is:

    Server error
The website encountered an error while retrieving http://www.wdpromo.com.au/25words/v_register.php. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.
    Here are some suggestions:
    Reload this webpage later.
HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error): An unexpected condition was encountered while the server was attempting to fulfill the request.

Been trying all day with no luck :(

    • Reducing the file sizes from 300kb to under 200kb fixed the problem.

    • Try looking at the end date of the promo, from memory you had to submit the claim by the 2nd of January or there about. That might be your problem

  • Anyone recieved their $50 yet?

    • no not yet.

    • Nope, nothing here either.

    • Nothing here. No email about issues with pics either though.

    • I haven't received anything yet

  • Still waiting for my rebate :(

  • Nothing yet either. Should we start to get worried?

    • This is part of email from WD:
"Once your entry is verified, your gift card will be delivered to the address you provided by 30 January, 2013."

Hopefully we will see/hear something from WD in next 10 days.

      • I still wouldn't be too worried about it if you dont receive it by 30 Jan. Had a Samsung fridge promo card come after 3 months when they said it would be received by me within 28 days. After 2 months i email Samsung and they stated Citi bank had some BS problems. Im pretty sure this cash back is handled by Citi bank so i would assume there is a possibility of a delay. If its not received by mid Feb i would start thinking of emailing WD about whats going on.

I dont work for Citi bank or WD, i just know people get a little stressed and hot headed and there is no point. It will come when it comes :P and then we can spend it on another Ozbargain :D

        • I think the difference is there is no guarantee that everyone is going to get their gift cards in this promo. A cashback promo is guaranteed so you can accept some delay as you know you should get it. There was some skill involved in the WD promo so im sure some people would be getting antsy about not getting their gift card. Alot of people would have bought based on getting back $50.

        • Yeah i get what you mean, the wording was pretty poor by WD if it was guaranteed or not. I took it as a cashback and a competition for the $1000 with a creative answer type thing to circumvent having to get licensing for a lottery. Who know will soon see, $50 the WD is a good unit but at $100 its not worth it. Might see a flood of them on ebay soon haha

    • Although a bit of a pain having to wait…
I can't see a company with the reputation and size as WD has in reneging on a publicly advertised offer like this!!!

  • +1

Looks like a long wait ahead with not a single person in here receiving it yet. I wouldn't be surprised if I'm still waiting for it at the end of next month. :-/

  • They are not responding to emails anyone got their tel # ?
