Test drove it yesterday in Coburg. Felt a lot more premium inside than a model Y. The software seemed like a tesla knock off, functioned well.
The guy said they have sold 28 at Coburg so far this month, I saw two purchases while I was there, one before and after the test drive.
The first shipments have only hit Australia in the last few months. I expect them to become quite popular.

          • @starry001: The one thing I like about Tesla is that you don’t. Have to carry your car keys with you. Is it the same with the xpeng. I feel like I can’t go back to carrying car keys ever again.

            • +1

@michaelTito: You can have up to 5 phone keys so you don't need to take the key fob at all (essentially the car unlocks as you approach and locks when you walk away) - the associated xpeng app is also quite feature rich (to the point that you can even create your own custom automations for your car/profile - e.g. if this condition and/or that condition and so on then do these things

            • @michaelTito: You don't even need the phone now, you can use your watch,

          • -4

@starry001: Both sales to chinese people no doubt.

        • Questions is if it’s that much better value and equipment then why isn’t it more popular?

          because it hasn't arrived yet.

      • -4

Ahahaha you losing some brain cells by supporting China that soon will start invading Oz lol

        • +9

If they do, I hope we get decent trains out of it.

      • +1

        Plus you're not supporting Nazis

People are starting to realise they do not want a Swasticar

  • +10

Electric Viking will be pumping-up this like there is no tomorrow.

    • +11

Yes all these youtubers get paid to travel to China and promote their vehicles

      • +2

Like every well known youtuber who does new car reviews for every maker in every country…

    • +1

Absolutely, but to his credit he seems to still be pretty pro Tesla, and other EV manufacturers on his YouTube channel as well. He avoids talking other EVs down, even after purchasing an Xpeng.

      • +2

Nah. He was singing BYD's praises previously to getting his xpeng, now he's taking them down. Must be the xpeng endorsements somehow.

        • Maybe some companies sometimes have good products relative to the competition, sometimes they have bad products relative to the competition, and things change?

Nah, not possible, he must be constantly getting paid by whoever happens to have the best product at the best value on the market right now.

      • If he is still pro Tesla after seeing and reviewing Chinese EVs… his reviews probably sucks.

        • He says he ordered a Tesla model y juniper. Does this make him a supporter?

          • @Heybargain: He says alot of things. All of thse youtubers get paid to say different things. I find it easier and way faster just to read some EV news sites to get the news rather than this guy.

    • Yeah, that dumb fella just reads news and makes a video about it. Nothing useful.

  • +8

offer will be backdated for anyone who placed an order from 1 February 2025.

So this original deal from 8 Nov 2024 to 31 Jan 2025 never actually ended https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/875759

While I guess it may not be strictly against the site rules, it's a weird way for the distributor to sidestep the spirit of the guidelines and have it re-advertised as a new deal and drum up extra promotions

I think we really need less car spam on here for posts that are not new deals

    • +1

I respect your sentiment but I wouldn't think about it that deeply. A car company that has issued 3 promotions in total, 1 of which is being brought back, is not quite a call for arms on spamming. Now, if this was any of the barrage of products listed on Amazon that constantly get re-listed on OZB with promo coupons at same price level, I'd agree though.

    • +1

previous offer included the 1st service for free, this offer doesn't

  • +2

One of China's best EV brands

    Incredibly subjective assertion…..

    • +1

If they're all terrible, then this is still possible to technically be accurate.

If the others generally explode and kill 7 kittens, this only has to kill 6 to be the best.

    • +5

      not really

if the brand is big enough to get exported then its "one of their best"

and even independent US research groups who have bought their own models to test in the US, where they arent even sold have found out Xpeng are truly excellent… put another way the Americans cant even build an EV like Xpeng (besides Tesla)

heres a protip - there's a multitude of brands who are not good enough to be exported that are obviously not as good

and put another way Xpeng are better than GWM when it comes to EVs

but GWM is a more solid buy overall

    • Can't tell until 10 years later…
      Everything is subjective now.

  • +4

Any good lenders for Self Manage novated lease with Maxia?

  • +3

Nothing against the product, but on the fence about trueev (distributor). Going to wait a couple of years before committing to see how they establish themselves.

  • +1

Does Novated lease is a lease to buy at the end of lease? Or there an option where you can lease for two years then return the car.

    • +1

If the lease ends you could either settle the balloon payment and buy the car or let the lease company keep it. The lease term could be two years, but the monthly payment will increase accordingly (say, compared to a 3 year lease).

But if you enter into a 4 years lease contract and want to end it at year two, it will be expensive for you and you'll end up losing money.

      • Another word is that you pay out the pre-lease calculated amount how much the car would worth at end of the lease. Simply put you have to buy the car at end of the lease.

  • +1

Why just roll one die when you can roll ALL the dice! And if you're gambling anyway, there's a lot less risky ways of dropping money than on something like this.

  • +11

And when the distributor goes bust and disappears you'll find out how meaningless 10 years is in this context.

  • +1

I much prefer the actual discount rather than the extended warranty, only meaning giving the manufacturer more money for the ongoing service of the vehicle.

  • +1

    XPorn, onlyfans broadcasters' favourite

  • I found the middle rear seat to be quite uncomfortable.

  • Tesla offer a measily 4

true, that does sound a bit spotty

  • An additional 5-year extended warranty on car parts at no extra cost. Valued at $2,990.

So between 5 and 10 years old they are expecting these vehicles to need on average $3k worth of parts replaced, plus labor. Seems excessive.

    • No that is what the option cost to add when in the checkout. They are expecting far less (in order to profit).

  • +4

Now I'm feelin' so fly like a G6
    Like a G6, like a G6

  • +15

    Toilet paper warranty.

If it doesn't have an explicit SoH - state of health warranty, walk away.

Ie. The battery will be >80% after 8 years.

If not, all it needs to do is turn on.

Might only go 1km…but it's "working".

As consumers we need to push them/ gov for a clearly labelled SoH warranty.

    • +3

Question is who among the EV makers in AU have a minimum SoH in their warranty?

      • -7

he's pulling condititions out of his ass

like who is offereing a 80% battery after 8 yrs?

i wouldnt buy this solely beause of trueEV but i dont think anyone is going to meet such high standards

        stick to petrol

      • +6

Tesla specifies 70% minimum for their battery warranty.

      • Mitsubishi did …until none of their cars actually made it and reviewed it. But I think it went to court and it still applies.

        GWM do…

        Tesla do…

        Hyundai do…

        Again, if xpeng dont….Avoid

  • Gee extra warranty on car parts… But I wonder how much they'll charge to install it

  • +7

Just beware about XPENG cars as they are still not profitable at this stage
10years warranty means nothing if the company can't even last that long

I would rather getting cars from BYD, GWM, MG or even XiaoMi …

    • I would rock a xiaomi u7.

  • +2

I saw an xpeng in castle hill mall last year… Brand new car …. Door hinges were rusted…

    • Rust is extra feature you get for free. Count yourself lucky.

I still remember seeing an MG with red brake callipers where the overspray was on the wheel well.

      Horribly made cars.

  • +1

"One of the best"… I wonder how many of the bests are there? You can have all the EV companies that survived listed as "One of the best" and no one knows it :P

  • +1

Where can I learn about self managed novated leases using my own cash for the “loan”. Never heard of it before.

    Sounds like a deal.

  • +6

I don't think they will still be in bussiness in 10years time

    • +7

I put them above Nissan in 10 years time.

      • +1

No one cares about Nissan so it's not relevant here

        • +3

if you are watching how Nissan is doing that it IS quite relevant remark

          • @radissimo: They are in the gutter, we all know. So what…

They're in that position because no one cares.

    • +2

How many legacy car brands will be in business here in 10 years? The Chinese are only getting started and there is no reason to kneecap them here like they are doing in Europe and USA.

So who can compete with China on price and increasingly on quality and equipment if current trends continue?

    • +2

I mean it is valid, but they'll be more likely to survive than many euros/korean/japanese manufacturers that are losing sales.

  • +2

Are they still be around after 10 years?

  • Who will take over warranty obligations if the company is gone?

    • +2

      Official Tiktok channel.

  • +1

No one can guarantee that they will survive for the next 10 years.

    • -1

Xpeng is doing way better than Nissan. They have a future portfolio of cars that are better than Nissan

      • +1

A future portfolio of cars means jack.

Doesn't mean that Nissan is doing better or worse that this Chinese brand though; Nissan has no relevance here.

        • +1

It's completely relevant, they might be legacy auto but their future is under a cloud. The future product portfolio is one the most important things, Nissan reminiscing about the good old days won't save it.

        • So you discard Mona M03 because it doesn’t mean jack. Funny 🤣

  • +1

Xpeng will likely announce the facelift of G6 mid this year. The new models have been published by the MIIT of the Chinese government.

Also Xpeng's CEO said they will likely turn into profit in Q4 2025.

    I'll hold

    • -1

Currently in the black moneywise and with a hot mona M03 outselling more than they can make.

    • +4

This is a vastly better product than BYD. It deserves to stick around based on that at least.

They’re reasonably successful in China so the brand itself isn’t going anywhere. The distributor is the big question mark.

      • Fair enough, I'd never heard of them.

Sounds like the distributor may be the deal breaker though

        • lol i dont like BYD at all but buying BYD is vastly more sensible than this brand

          • @tonyjzx: The BYD distributors (EVDirect) aren’t exactly the gold standard either.

The main reason a BYD is a smarter buy is because it’s looking like they might move to a factory backed operation soon.

      • I wouldn't say vastly better, BYD is like the Toyota of Chinese EVs, reliable, strong value proposition, whereas Xpeng is much more tech focused and Tesla-esque. Comes down to the after-sales support from distributors, as you say, jury is out on both

  • -2

Be it 10 year or 50 year warranty, that means nothing unless they specify how many KMs covered. For an example, Tesla covers 8 year for battery but only 160K km. For an average person, that's probably enough but for someone drives 45K per year, that probably means just half of the duration (4 year) warranty. If they are truely confident of their cars quality, they should do unlimited km warranty for both battery and the car (like Toyota does).

    • +2

      up to 220000km

    • +1

No, Toyota don't have unlimited km warranty for their battery vehicles:
      https://www.toyota.com.au/electrified/battery-electric-vehic…

"For the warranty period of 8 years or 160,000 km (whichever occurs first), Toyota will repair or replace your Traction Battery if the energy storage capacity falls below 70% of the original Traction Battery capacity provided regular Traction Battery Health Checks in the maintenance program are executed according to Toyota specifications, and operation, charging and maintenance complies with Toyota EV Operating Instructions contained within the vehicle Owner’s Manual. Excludes vehicles used for a commercial purpose, such as taxis, hire vehicles and vehicles transporting people or goods for payment including rideshare)."

      • Thanks for this, I thought they would have followed the suit similar to hybrid cars. Hybrid Toyota's have unlimited km warranty for hybrid battery as well (for 8 years), which is pretty handy. On the other hand, it's much cheaper to replace compared to a full EV battery so it makes sense.

      • energy storage capacity falls below 70% of the original Traction Battery capacity

Does people understand what this mean & it's potential impact on driving-range @ 7th & 8th years of ownership ?

EV owners of 10+ years are free to share their experience.

        https://batteryuniversity.com/article/why-mobile-phone-batte…

    • Pretty sure they do specify the km's covered (160K km for the battery for example)

  • +1

The shitter the car the better the warranty lol. It's just how it works. Toyota stuck out for years with just a 3 year warranty… They were still the top seller.

    • +1

It shows with MG. So many people on this forum jump on the "quality" of MG because they're backing it with a 10 year warranty.

I say it every time. The warranty doesn't mean anything if they take 6 months to ship the part, or if they decide to exit Aus, or if they decide it's not covered.

    • +1

If that's how it works, MG warranty needs to be 50 years!

  • +3

They should get Sam Pang to advertise these, lol

  • -1

One of China's best EV brands

How do they compare to American / European / South Korean / Japanese EVs? What kind of international awards have they received?

I know that Chinese EVs, or vehicles in general, have not won any prestigious or globally recognised awards.
