  • Thats a crazy price! Well done!

    • With recent JB "one-deal" kind of thing, I'm wondering if JB is doing this on purpose to get some online fuzz.

  • +4

Maybe some details on how you did it? I assume you price matched DSE but they gave you the XL instead of the non. Not really a bargain in that case.

    • I'm new to DS, is 3DS better than 3DS XL? I thought they are the same only XL has larger screens?

      • Big screen, better battery life. The big screen makes such a difference, i traded in my original since it was that good.

  • What the?! This is an awesome price! How??!

  • Looks like he pricematched DSE and the employee got the wrong model.

  • very curious as the online JB HiFi price is exactly doube that.

  • +1

Title doesn't say it all, please provide info =]

  • Yer its more like a mistake.
Is this the plain model or the one with a built in game?

    • -1

It is not a mistake as OP already asked what could the sales rep do for 3DS XL instead of DSE 3DS. Well, I guess some people believe human errors happen everyday.

  • +5

Going to say an incorrect pricematch on this one. still… thats some quality haggling if it wasnt.

    • +3

Maybe you are right. According to Gerry Harvey when a bargain seems too good to be true we should know it is an error and not try to snap one to prevent JB Hifi from going into bankrupcy.

      • +2

This was discounted by around $100, with an approximate 50% markdown, and is price matched to the 3DS (non XL version), with one unit being snapped up.
The total loss to JB Hi Fi on this deal was $100.

The HN deal was discounted by around $600 to 700, with an appximate 90% markdown, and over a thousand units were snapped up.
The Total loss to HN would have been over $700,000.

        Great comparison though.

The problem with posting 'deals' like this, is that you are fostering a retail environment where people wont give customers once off amazing deals, because they know the shit will hit the fan if the person takes it to ozbargain and suddenly everyone feels entitled to receiving the same.

  • +2

Called up JB Southland VIC and said they wouldn't pricematch another state.

  • +1

Are the professionals at work again?????

Im going to say you got a good bargain.

I rang and spoke to local JB and they would not match that price Campbelltown NSW

    • +8

I can just see the news headlines tommmorow

"Thousands of Professional shoppers headed to their Local JB HiFi store after a reciept was leaked showing a Nitendo 3Ds XL price matched at $119.

This was just after the professional were successful in ordering thousands of Acer Tablets for $121 just last week from Harvey Norman

In an interview with a JB HiFI salesman he commented "A customer approached me with a printed copy of a reciept" , " I didn't know that he was a professional" , " I saw the reciept, and asked my manager if i could price match it and he said yes" , "When i confirmed with the customers that i could price match it, he asked for 20 units" , I had no choice except to honour the price" , "If i had known he was a PROFESSIONAL, i would have contacted the police" , " Now im at risk of loosing my Job".

JB Hifi CEO refused to comment.

Jerry Harvey also refused to comment

      • +4

        ACCC also refused to comment

  • +15

Since you've updated the original post with more info, I'd now say you haven't done the guy any favours. Once JB head office get a sniff of this, and see the store on the receipt this guy will be done with, or at least warned.

Well done on the bargain, but probably best to not share as he was being nice, and will now get burnt :(

    • +4

      agree…
poor JB guy will get the 'blame' for very good with customers ;)

    • -3

And??? Take responsibility for his mistake….shock horror what's the world coming to. If he's like most JB staff he won't give a sh!t, neither would I in iis position it's a mistake he is human and it happens

      • +13

he is probably NOT LIKE most of JB staffs, and that's why I think it's not a good idea to take advantage of such circumstances…

Put yourself in his/her shoes, and try to feel when you got the consequences due to 'human error' and being wrongly 'Ozbargained'!!!

this is NOT A TRUE OZBARGAIN spirit - I think!
It is not the same as if it is a price error on website :D

  • Funny how this guy was able to price match it, I would think they had some system in place to check the price/cost or even a lower price limit, or he could have even asked superiors to get an ok to price match.

However this doesn't seem like a useable bargain, as most people agree its a salesperson error

  • +7

    The "PROFESSIONALS" do it again

    • one up vote from me for the LOL

  • +2

    Tried and failed this morning

    • Did you pull out your OZbargain Badge and state your a professional !

  • -7

Not a deal. The 3DS is on sale. Not the XL. You just got lucky that your store made an error.
Neg Neg as its not a deal.

    • +3

Seems like people are mad that I was right. Price error isn't a bargain and scamming stores isn't a bargain.
Neg is fitting. And people looking for "specific staff" in order to price match this are admitting that what they are doing isn't correct, that they need to abuse peoples lack of knowledge in order to get away with this.
      Seems doggy.

      • +1

        woof!

  • +3

I would rather believe some sales reps have kinder "hearts" than others and intentionally give customers good deals instead of like what Modokun always believes "good deals = mistakes or errors" as he has no "moral" involved in dealing with customers.

    • -2

Sure, when the sales rep has the discretion or authority to do so. But outright swapping one product for another is either stupidity or incompetence, regardless of the intention of the sales rep.

  • -1

c'mon guys find a young dumb chick or a batty old bag to do the price match…
    choose your victim wisely
If you want to know about pricing errors see a petrol station or bank
JB and others cry wolf with the lying catchphrase 'below cost' so often we assume they are lying

    • "your victim"? "wolf"? What are you, a predator?

      • +1

all true ozbarginers are predators, we even hunt the hunters

        • and we always hunt in packs like a school of piranhas.. Any sign of blood and there is nothing left.

          muhahah..

      • We are professionals as said by Mr. Gerry Harvey

  • -1

Got a 3DS at Dicksmith then got a refund. I went to 2 JB stores and asked for $119 … the staffs looked at me with a weird face then they rejected straight away. Finally, I ended up getting a 3DS at Dicksmith again lol.

I'll keep the sealed on my 3DS until this 'price match' is cleared :D

  • This was a mistake, OP got lucky!!!

    • agreed the OP got lucky

  • No chance anyone will match this. Good deal OP

  • +1

Ah anyway, yet another 'I got lucky at JB Hi-fi' bargain that will get 100+ votes but only a couple of successful ozbargainers.

Expect a post about JB sending email storewide to say that this was a mistake.

  • Will be moving in for the kill at approx between 1:45-2:20pm and will post results and receipt if successful
All your 3DS-XL are belong to us

  • +2

Try just before the closing time. Did work for me at HN, WA. Will try today with JB

  • +1

people that are complaining and saying that this is price error, human error, bla bla etc are just jealous! heck the OP has post a full receipt, what more do you want from the OP?

    • OP did good with his post, receipt, details etc. It is just neg'd because no one will match this, and will just annoy everyone (staff, customers etc).

    • +1

I am sure most of us who have been here long enough understand it's an error, and hence it's up to you whether to take the advantange or not on the expense of someone's job on the line! - at least I won't.

also sometimes it's a waste of time to "price match" such error - so good luck and thumbs up for those who have been successful so far :)

      • so why did you neg it then?

And "on the expense of someone's job on the line" you're being a bit of a drama queen eh Kungy?

        "at least I won't."
        you're still my hero

    • Jealous? Its a mistake and not a deal in any form. Congrats to the op for an awesome price though.

    • I'm guessing they probably want the nintendo

  • -2

Whoever did price match in JB, we get good deal haa. Any chance of post receipt to this node. scan it post it :)…….. :)

  • -2

Outrageous and Outstanding at the same time.
Paid $230 for this 2 months ago and now $119!
Wow just wow! I would definitely get another one for my GF if MH is out (or if I don't spent so much money on Steam deals)
    Go get it!

    • +4

It's not $119…this guy just got lucky.

  • It's an employee error. You should have posted it as a comment to the previous deal post instead of making a new deal, because an error is not a deal. Only if other people get incompetent salespeople can they replicate your deal.

Still, grats on your bargain, and I don't think you did anything wrong in asking for an XL and accepting it when the salesperson agreed.

  • +6

    HOLD ON……..
I am getting my ticket from Jetstar right now from Sydney to WA….
    fingers corssed…..:)

  • congrats on your bargain..but hardly a reason to create a new post!

  • +2

Employee error not a bargain for the rest of us

  • likely an error but i'll still give it a shot after work cause I have a JB near by…

    • could you please get me one??
I think we could get a even better price for GOROUP BUY….
      how about that?:)

  • +1

    not a deal. move on…

  • Maybe the "op" is a "professional" ;)

  • That was very lucky… Congrats on the deal but sadly I don't think to many others will have the same success

  • Not a deal, who keeps up voting this thing?

    • its a deal, i keep up voting along with others because like the other person said if u were to read it can be available to some but not all. THey have a receipt and that can be useful to the right staff member :P

  • i went to Booragoon literally just then and i got rejected T_T
    which person did u see?!

    • +8

That's cause the guy who did the deal no longer works for JB.

  • No one else will be able to price match this anywhere.

  • I got jbhifi to price match the the 3DS but not the XL, i also got streetfighter price mathed for $10. The gentlemen i dealt with was very mature, in his mid 30's looking more senior in position. All he did was go to dse website and confirm i wasn't talking nonsense, then he was happy to price match anything. This was at Penrith Homemaker Centre (off mulgoa road), NSW.

    • This is all about the XL. There is another thread with the normal 3DS. i think your post should be there not here.

  • Try to get 3DS $119 at Dicksmith before all gone. Keep the sealed and try to fight with as many as JB stores you can.

    I tried and got rejected
    Melbourne stores:
    Highpoint (Inside and outside stores)
    Sunshine
    Werribee

  • I did post there as well, just wanted to say i did have success with a price match at a jb store, but this chap was not willing to do it for the XL.

    • I doubt anyone would, for all we know the jb hifi employee could of been the OP friend who "accidentally" gave the wrong model.

  • +1

    price matches arent deals though?

  • If you really want the XL at this price the best place to try to get a price match is to go to a Big W or Kmart and get a youngster working in the entertainment section. Show them a print out of the receipt and they'll likely put it through without hesitation. I worked in the entertainment section of kmart for 3 years and our price match policy is "if it sounds right dont bother calling, just give it to them" and I never got questioned by a manager for any price match I did.

    • I'm doing this right now with young lady Kmart Indooropilly.
She is calling local jb. Going to be epic fail :(

  • Hey guys, just checking into see if anyone has had any luck?

  • Most neg votes on a front page deal?

  • I don't think this deal is available to everyone… you would be very lucky to get it price matched based on that receipt. Neg from me.

  • +1

how can you take advantage of the situation neg for me. You should have kept it to yourself!

    • +1

I'm so sorry for trying to help others get a cheap Nintendo

      • -1

The people who negged you, are the same people who would have given you the green light had they been able to get the same deal. Haters gonna hate.

        1. the guy might get fired because 1000 customers came in with the receipt for a cheap 3DS XL that is obviously a mistake.

        2. All the people that have gone into a store and was rejected because it was a mistake (wasting people's time and fuel)

So tell me how did you "help others get a cheap Nintendo"

        • +2
          1. The guy got clearance from the manager (or supervisor, someone higher up) so am I supposed to refuse the offer and pay double the price because others might want it cheap too?

          2. My post says "give you guys a chance". No one had a chance of getting it at this price before I posted this, I admit the chance that they have of getting it at this price are slim yet there is still a chance

        • +1

Just so we are clear we are discussing why this is not a Ozbargain deal, if you are arguing that this is a "bargain" on its pure definition yes you got a bargain no one is arguing that…

The reason why its not a Ozbargain deal is:

          1. It's a pricing error e.g. you got lucky
          2. A very slim amount of people will get this deal meaning wasting time and money for the ones that don't
          3. The implications of this error when published publicly might spell trouble for the manager and the sales person who served you.

Therefore I negged the deal and I stick with my argument.

        • "how can you take advantage of the situation neg for me. You should have kept it to yourself!"

How is that discussing why it's not a deal? Your whole argument is that I'm bad person for posting this

        • No one is accusing you that you are a bad person, comment was to point out that it's not the smartest post and will get removed.

So why create trouble for the sales person and the manager of the JB HI FI that gave you a great bargain?

I had a girl in JB HI FI who was new, sold me Mario Bro's Wii U for $40 bucks new, clearly a mistake so why would I post(Invoice)publicly and have a chance of the poor girl getting fired?

  • +3

THIS is not what OzBargain is about.

  • +1

OP has clearly done nothing wrong, why the negs? He was only posting a great bargain!

    • +2

price matches are not considered bargains here.

      • +2

i think the right term is pricing errors are not bargains

        • Yes but according to voting guidelines you should not neg a deal if its a price match or a pricing error.

        • People are more so trying to balance out all the + votes for a deal that will be lucky for anyone at all to replicate.

  • +1

No matter how it is done, it's all about the ways and ideas of getting the cheapest lowest prices.
And op has done that, and there is a chance of others getting this same deal.

There is no need to be upset if you did not get the same deal, not everything on ozbarganers is guaranteed, like when a item sells out, and negs start going everywhere.

    • And op has done that, and there is a chance of others getting this same deal.

Yes… maybe… but I can't see loads of people reporting back that they also got this deal

  • Ok fail at Indooropilly target Kmart and ebgames
    Worth trying for more
Young guy at target would have done it but target doesn't
    Price match anymore

  • +1

    Price match isn't a bargain

  • -2

    What does BARGAIN Mean?
To pay less for something than you expected to e.g. My leather coat was a real bargain in the sale.
