3m? Is this a cable for ants?

    • I wonder if this is a typo?

I've got one of these chargers and the cable is 7m long. The specs on the eebsite also state 7m - https://www.evswitchstore.com.au/products/supercharger

How much did it cost to get wired in?

        • +2

$1,200 as the charger was installed a fair distance away from my meter box.

        • +2

I had mine installed right next to my meter box for $360

Just FYI, these get semi-regularly posted for sale on the BYD groups (unwanted freebies from deals like this). Have seen a bunch selling for $250-$300 in the last month or two (but perhaps $350 more normally).

Presumably there will be a new round of them up for sale from this deal! Lol.

They originally came in at an RRP of $499 (and made a big deal about that pricing), but then this became a launch price, and it was eventually jacked up to $999 (but frequently discounted - it's $699 right now). Make of that what you will.

The cynical person may suggest that these chargers are advertised for sale here (by EV Switch, which is a BYD company) purely for the purpose of inflating the value when they are given away by BYD as a bonus with car purchase in these promos…

Just fyi, in valuing how much this freebie is truly worth / a heads up if you actually want to buy one of these chargers cheaply (without buying a new BYD!).

3M cable will be problematic. They should have provided at least a 5M cable..

      its 7m not 3m. i think its a typo.

Is the Melbourne Motor Show in Sydney this year?

    General Conditions
    • This offer is only valid for orders made at the Melbourne Motor Show, Sydney, between 5-6 April 2025. Any orders made outside this location, or dates will not be eligible.

    • Melbourne is part of greater Sydney? No?

Looks like a standard offer for Sydney buyers.

I recently got a BYD and asked about this charger as it wasn't included in my purchase. Just in case anybody is wondering
    - 12 months warranty
    - there are minimal reviews or posts on their social media networks but best to DYOR

After consideration I decided to get a Tesla Gen 3 wall connector for the 4 year warranty and reputation. No problems so far and works well with charging my vehicle at 6.5-7kw. If you're heading down the same route then consider finding a cheaper online price and getting Bunnings to price beat for 5%

    • was looking at Telsa chargers but they dont have OCPP though.

      • +1

These EV switch chargers are ocpp and work great with the home assistant ocpp integration for solar charging. Picked one up cheap off marketplace.

        • How are you feeding solar output wattage to home assistant?

          • @beesider: Usually your inverter has an integration of sorts, or if I’m not mistaken the OCPP essentially monitors the solar feed through a CT so there would potentially be 2 ways to capture that data and feed it back

          • @beesider: We have a Shelly 3M at the grid /house interface and a basic automation control in HA. Some people use EVCC there’s a thread on whirlpool about it.

We also have a solar integration but that doesn’t feed into the automation as it doesn’t capture the rest of the house usage - air con / washing / dishwasher

  • I mean being able to get one to just resell to fund a better charger is where my head is at. Have an order unallocated as yet might see if they will be kind enough to extend the offer out

How can we make sure the new car will be delivered before 31th of May?

    • Are you able to explain why people are rushing to buy before this date?

      • Is this real q?

      • The eligibility criteria states that the vehicle must be delivered by then.

  • and motor show tickets sold out :(
