    Fake 4K. 5MP sensor interpolation to 4K.

If you want actual 4K, then Wolfbox have the G900 Pro with the Starvis 2 sensor.

G900 TriPro has also just been released which replaces the potato rear camera of the G900 Pro with a decent OmniVision sensor.

I have one. I am not tech savvy, but image quality is actually quite good.

      • I had a G900 Pro too.

Just pointing it out to users that believe it's 4K when it actually isn't.

Proof?? You seem to be running around saying everything isn’t 4K, with nothing to back it up

          • +1

@BatmanAU: 5MP sensor, actual 4K is an 8Mp sensor. 2K is the highest a 5mp sensor can go, they've just scaled it up to be 4k resolution when the sensor can't capture at that resolution.

Plenty of proof about interpolated 4k i.e. fake 4k on the internet.

@adrianhughes1998: Calling it now….. that batman is fake also.

Real batman would know a 5MP sensor isn't giving 4k recordings.

@Duff5000: True, all it takes is a simple Google before trying to make out that the other person is giving false information, but Bruce Wayne here couldn't do that.

I'm happy to admit when I'm wrong, but come on. This is pretty basic stuff.

I don't see the logic in the comparison. Loving your PS5 doesn’t mean you’d go buy a Sony Xperia. I'd always stick with Blackvue for dashcams, but if you have to go the cheaper route, you can get front and back cams for much cheaper than this.

This design Serves a different purpose to traditional dashcam as it transmits rear camera to the screen live for cars with terrible rear view coverage…

    • +3

Maybe it's someone's budget. Myself, I use thinkware. But I also use this as permanent rear view as I have limited vision to the back (canopy).

    • Options are limited when it comes to this form factor. Either Wolfbox and 70mai had a S500 last year but that was 2K Starvis 2 only.

Viofo back and front, Vantrue back and front, 70mai back and front would work for considerably less than a Blackvue or Thinkware.

Based on watching dashcams australia on youtube, Blackvue are trash (I don't own a dashcam yet, so just my observation). Based on the clarity of the clips that are submitted to the channel, the Viofo brand seem to be kicking goals, along with Navman.

      • 100% Viofo.

Have all the following myself: A329, A229 Pro and Vantrue did a decent job with the Nexus 4 Pro and their latest E1 Pro. 70mai also with their new 4K Omni.

Point is Blackvue are overpriced and seem to be slipping in their game. Their cloud game is strong, but so is 70mai and Vantrue cloud is catching up too.

        • +1

Absolutely agree – BlackVue’s only real competitive advantage is its cloud functionality, and it isn’t even fully utilised by most users.

    • Blackvue don't do rearview mirrors

    • Blackvue are over priced for the actual hardware. The only advantage is the form factor. I wish viofo had no screen.

  • I have something similar and use it as a rear dash cam and rear view moto because of my canopy. Have it sitting above the number plate and it’s great! Goes over the existing review mirror.

The front dashcam isn’t great because of my front windscreen and detection cameras area at the top. But for rear, I’m very happy.

    Didn’t pay $230 though, something like $150.

  • I read their FB ads the other day, seemed a lot complained about connection issues all the time

    • Fake 4K yet again

      • -2

        Says 4K to me.

        • That's nice.

WDR is never in a dashcam that has 4K or any decent Starvis 2 sensor, only HDR. First giveaway. Second giveaway is no mention of Sony or OmniVision or other sensors used.

Only true 4k sensor from Sony in the first generation Starvis was IMX415, only one in Starvis 2 is IMX678. So once again, the likelihood of it being fake 4K is very very probable.

I installed the G850 on my old Honda. Excellent quality for the price ($165). The rear camera is outside so it's nice and clear even at night. You could buy the stand to go at the back of it to completely remove your rear view mirror.

  • I've a couple of these, or variants but same brand. They seem to work well and are useful for backup cams as well.

Note - you can also get a replacement mirror mount arm that allows you to remove the existing mirror on many cars and simply put this in it's place - saves weight and looks much more professional. It also means less stress on the screen mount tab - this applies to older cars with just a simple rearview mirror and no electronics etc.

  • I think for those considering this, it not the best dashcam - but it has its place in the market. I see it as a simple and cheap reverse camera setup, that also comes with an okay dashcam.

I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re just after a dashcam. It’s okay, but not worth it for that alone, as others have pointed out and plus, the rear camera usually needs to be mounted outside, which can be a bit of a hassle.
