I've learnt from experience that these chinese tablets look good on paper, but if the firmware is garbage, then the tablet is useless…..

    • +1

Sometimes they (Chinese manufacturers) do a pretty good job of keeping the firmware updated. Cube U30GT for instance has had a lot of firmware updates since release and overall it's a very stable tablet.

Not sure about this particular brand though.

      • +1

I have the cube U30gt I am now running decontaminate rom without any problems. Unlike Cube's rubbish…..

        • +1

Yes, but the Decontaminate ROM is still based off the stock rom. If Cube never update the stock ROM, you won't get any new modified ROMs either.

    • +2

you can safely say the firmware IS garbage even before you try it, only if theres rom support community will you take a plunge in chinese tabs.

Looks like some good specs, but for that price the quality surely can't be too overwhelming, right? Anyone had experience with Chuwi or the store that it's selling from for this price (lightake.com)?

    • +1

I've bought various things from Lightake. Takes about 2-3 weeks but no problems.

    • there is nothing wrong in selling for this price, that's a standard price for chinese tablet

  • Why isn't this 16:9?

    • +2

They're using the iPad Retina display standard. Hence that's why they call it Retina display??

  • lol Chewy

  • Pretty cool specs…

This looks very similar to the (slightly more known ) Ainol Nova9 Firewire/Spark and Onda V972 which are currently in pre-order for around the same price.
    e.g. Onda v972 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBSaBdRBE7M
If its like these ones, it wont be garbage - they are tremendous value for money at the moment IMO.
Edit: it looks like the Chuwi V99 doesnt have the Allwinner A31 and 2GB, rather it has the ROckchip RK3066 Dual Core and 1GB or RAM. So, maybe its not the same…..

  • Hey rep, is this in stock. If I order it when will you ship?

  • +2

Why does it seem like 90% of these Chinatabs skip Bluetooth support? Also, I found a hands-on review by someone who says the guts of the V99 are rather different from what's advertised in this deal: http://liliputing.com/2012/11/chuwi-v99-tablet-review-2048-x…

    • Along with GPS support . It's nice to be able to use them as a gps in the car .

    • +1

I think they have to pay royalties to Toshiba to use BT.

  • Does this sound right " High Resolution Up To 2048*1536 Pixel"? Why is it UP TO?

    • +1

Because android by default has a navigation bar which uses ~96 vertical pixels. Hence, sometimes the "resolution" for display is less

    • nope) thats because many chinese tablets with retina screen can run in 2 modes: 2048x1536 or 1024x768,you pick what you want

  • We need more retina displays with Android. (Now I've a 7 inch; 13.8 would be great).

    • yeah, but what size tablet do you want?

    • Well irrespective to human anatomy: +4.1 inches larger 'than average', only I am not aware if tabs have reached there just yet. To me, pixel density would rate secondary to a capability of outputting true 1:1-scale crisp photos plus mag. (single) pages while >3MP.

I feel the 'zoom' feature makes good sense on phone screens though.
