How noisy is this? I have a noisy kettle already, don’t want to replace with another noisy one

Have you tried a silencer ?

      • Could you send the link? Thanks

I'm not sure how assassinating the manufacturer will help?

    • +2

it's the quest kettle i've ever owned in my life

    • +1

Descale it, fill it 75% and put in a tablespoon of citric acid (cheap from supermarket, cake ingredients section). Turn on.

Leave for a few hours, then tip out and rinse. No taste remains (and it's harmless anyway) so you don't need to go overboard.

      • Soaking in vinegar for a while does it too. Just don't turn it on with vinegar in it. Or do, it's kind of funny to watch.

I boil a cut up lemon in a full kettle.

      • Same here. Rather than throw away a bunch of lemon rinds after juicing them, I’ll chuck them into the kettle, fill up with water and boil. It descales and leaves a nice fresh citrus fragrance. A quick rinse and it looks like new.

Same price as amazon https://www.amazon.com.au/Philips-Double-Walled-Kettle-touch… with free delivery if you have prime.

    • $59

      • +3

There's a $20 coupon you can apply at checkout. Not sure if prime only.

    • +1

Thanks. Prime not required for the $20 coupon or free shipping. The item's price before coupon already meets the $59 minimum spend for free delivery, and the $20 coupon doesn't nullify the free shipping.

  • Whats the difference between this and the 7000 series besides the temperature control and which kettle would be better for an elderly person to use?

    • +3

The 7000 model is lighter than the 5000, offers different temperature modes and has the 'keep warm' feature, and that's about it.

But just based on that, since it's lighter, perhaps 7000 is better for an elderly user, but the extra buttons may confuse them, so it's really what is more important to them.

Just something to keep in mind with this and the 7000 model is that a large number of buyers have made complaints about the lid seal on these not working properly and having hot water leak out the sides while pouring, not great. There are also rusting complaints frequently.

    • The 7000 has a plastic nipple at the bottom touching boiling water so it knows the temp.. not worth the extra money.

      • +9

No one likes plastic nipples. 😂

Posted my review on the 7000 series in the 7000 series offer(I paid full price), but here is the gist of my take:

I'd go for one without the fancy temp selector / keep-warm functionality unless I absolutely want these functionalities. The touch dials for temp selector are very responsive (big plus) but not so forgiving if you're too slow / too fast / trying to figure it out, since you only have 2 buttons to work with for all the functionality. Honestly, if you need it just for the keep-warm functionality, then its fine too, since that actually is automatic after the first boil.

The kettle itself is fine, but pours slowly (just the nature of the holes in the inner wall) and you have a tendency to try to tilt it to get it flowing faster. Unfortunately, this will not make the flow faster and you will spill some from the lid if you tip it too much. Once it happens you sorta learn to not do it again, but the first time it happens is quite annoying and possibly dangerous. I haven't tried the 5000 series but i reckon it will have the same issue if the design is similar. I've seen worse in cheap kettles but it does feel that the designers did not actually try using it before they started producing it (again, want to caveat that many cheaper kettles do have this issue too, so it is not merely a Philips issue)

How longer time before the water boils?

    • +16

At 25 000km above sea level, the water would boil instantly even with the kettle being off.

So I've bought this. Didn't see a window on it, even though it's in the pics

    • You might have gotten the upgraded Phoolips model.

    • The product page does not advertise it as having a window and the pictures you are referring to are just product illustrations to show the double insulation / internal measurement features.

      • Honestly, it looks like a hand retracting a cover

I see you're right now, but it's absolutely misleading

    • You want plastic in your boiling water so you can see the water level?.. my hand has the ability to feel if its heavy or not.. so i know if i need to add more water..

      • shatter proof glass?

      • Glass

Your hand isn't perfectly calibrated to 1.7kg, which is how far I desire to fill it every night to do the two kids hot water bottles in one boiling

So i've had heaps of kettle in my life from many brands.. this one has been one of the best so far. If i tilt other kettles 180 when full water flows out everywhere just like this one. So like other kettles i tilt it 45 and all is fine. I've had linescale look like rust before.. never seen much rust on any kettle but have seen limacale and scuff (grime) build up when not cleaned and serviced ever. Using fltered water really helps with those issues.

The lid on this could be better for opening and closing but its working fine for me so far.

  • +2

I was tempted to buy but the reviews convinced me not to esp with the issues on the lid.

    • Its the best kettle I've ever purchased.. even better then $100+ ones :) even with the lid not being as good as other kettles its overall better.

  • I bought it during the last sale. I’m about to return it because the kettle shuts off randomly every single time. Even if you set it to 100 degrees, it never heats up to the required temperature. Anyone has any idea why? Thanks

    • That's 7000 series with Temperature control, the kettle in this deal is 5000 series. I guess you can try to return to the good guys.

    • its faulty.. get another one.. dont give us

  • I wish there was a 1500w or thereabouts kettle so that I stop tripping my breaker.

    • +1

You should get the house looked at

      • Yeah the circuit its on needs to be two circuits

        • What size breaker and what else is running on the same circuit? Time how long from starting the kettle until trip.

          • @AccuracyAdvocate: It's not the kettle on its own. The bloody laundry is on it too. So when washer is on and maybe something else, kettle breaks it. It's annoying because we always washing clothes! Can't remember breaker size sorry

    • You need to look at small capacity hotel kettles

      Here's a 1200w one
      https://www.nationalhotelsupplies.com.au/collections/kettles…

      • Oh I like that. Thanks. I only turned up caravan kettles on my searches and they looked poxy as.

  • Needed to buy a new kettle last week. Had this one shortlisted based on OzB but those Amazon reviews and the like are pretty spot on with the lid. Definitely suggest looking at these in a store first because when we did, we found the lid absolutely horrible to use and could imagine it driving us mad as a daily use item.

We got something different in the end but this is a good price for what you get otherwise.

    • Which kettle did you buy in the end?

      • Giving their Durapres IQ kettle a go. Quite like it at this stage, longevity will be the main thing though in the end.

For context I used to have a couple of Black & Decker digital kettles with a very similar temp control (prob same chip manufacturer and stuff) but two of them got window leaks ~1.5 years in, so sadly avoiding that model now.

  • In the end, with many complaints from good brands…people just for Kmart kettle.. consensus?

    • if you like the taste of plastic

      • Luckily it doesn't have a taste.

    • That's not what the picture is showing.

  • Just brought Kogan kettle for $34 last week. Shortlisted this but people complain about lid. Although looks very similar to Kogan which is well built.

  • I got this delivered free by Uber today. Quite happy with it. The lid doesn't open much but it's not a big issue. Great bargain at $39. Thanks OP!

    • My delivery options only come up as $6 and $8 with Australia post and global, how do you get it with free delivery, do you have to add it to your cart and put in your delivery address during opening hours?

      • It just showed up as free. Maybe it’s got to have one available nearby store

  • Bought from Amazon. Same price.

  • +1

    Expired?

  • +1

    Think it's expired everywhere.

  • Have been happy with this kettle. The pouring is really not as bad as people make out in the reviews. I have no issues using it
