Honesly, it's hard to choose. The Toshiba has a better video card & ram than Asua, clearly the Samsung is a winner but the Dell has impressive specs!

Any help to break it down for me?

:)

P.S> I spose I only want it for work/study/internet. If i even have time to game, id prob do it on the xbox!

Personally, at first glance, I'd go the Dell.

But lets break it down. You say gaming is not a concern, so we don't need to worry about graphics cards, Intel HD 4000 will suffice. Also the difference between 1333MHz RAM and 1600 is very little (i believe) so dont worry about that either.

SSD Hard drives play a big role in performance. SSD/HDD hybrid/combo drives are better than straight HDD, but still nothing compared to straight SSD.

Only the Acer, the Samsung, and the Dell have straight SSD.

So straight away lets rule out the Toshiba and the ASUS zenbook. It's only got an i5 CPU, its only got 4GB RAM, and you're paying more for dedicated graphics.

Lets also rule out the Acer, coz although i like the 256GB SSD its only got a 2nd gen CPU and 4GB RAM.

This leaves the Dell and the Samsung. The Dell has 256GB SSD, and is packed into a very sleek 13" design, but has limited ports and only a 1366x768 resolution.

The samsung while only having the 128GB SSD, has a much nicer screen with 1600x900 and better connectivity. However it is a larger 15" screen

So while I still like the Dell, the Samsung makes more sense, unless u really need the extra hard drive space.

It comes down to your preferences as well. Do you care about screen resolution? Screen size? Do you care about the extra speed and performance given by SSD, or would you rather save money if ur on a budget? The samsung comes out on top in my books (I still like the dell lol), but they are all decent ultrabooks in their own right.

  • P.S> I spose I only want it for work/study/internet

Any of them would be good. I'd go the cheapest option.

  • i loled at the 4" toshiba, personally this would be the machine id go for but only coz id be gaming on it if it were mine, if you don't plan to thats fine, but you really dont need a i7 for what you've said you plan to do anyway so dont immediately rule out the i5's as Riczter said.

Of course laptops like anything, you normally get what you pay for and if you want to shell out the extra, the samsung is a much nicer unit, the nicer screen > the bigger ssd of the dell.

i cant stand anything with 1,366 x 768 so the winner is clear to me

My next ultra book will end up being an Asus Zenbook, good build quality, good speakers.. Keeping an eye out for a i7 price drop on those.

  • With no need for a dedicated graphics card , i would agree with above comments and pick the Samsung up if the 15" is not a problem to you . I personally like them better than the smaller screens . Add the resolution, SSD and extended warranty . Easy choice :)

  • I recently did the same sort of thing, as I was looking for an ultrabook the key points were price, style and weight. Samung series 9 was my ideal but was too pricey, the next alternative for me was he asus zenbook from msy, I also like the fact that rm nd hdd can be updated later on th zenbook (once ssd come down in price)

Yes I know this will void the warranty initially, but it can always b updated later on.

  • Thank you for the feedback, I agree I think the Samsung is my choice! :)
