Using Marriot Bonvoy & Hilton Honours Status for Guests

Hi all, does anyone have any experience using their Marriot or Hilton account to book for someone else?

Will the status benefits extend to my guests? If so, do I book it under my name and add their name onto the booking? Or they can be the main guest? I suppose the hotels can't tell who is checking-in since it's mobile check-in?

TIA

  • Safest would be under your name but theirs as guest. The problem may be at check in though if physical presence is required.

  • People in the US report using the Hilton digital key feature to bypass the front desk but I’ve never found a hotel where having set up the digital key before arrival lets me go straight to my room

    • I’m actually planning to use it in the US so that works out well. Thanks

      • Tbh being Hilton gold in the US sucks cos they replaced breakfast with a credit that never actually covers breakfast and has varied, stupid and unwritten rules about using it depending on where you are

  • I am currently Marriott Titanium and have been previously Hilton Diamond for many years and sad to say that both Marriott and Hilton Gold status offers very negligble benefits and I would not spend too much thought finding ways to extend it to your guests since they get literally nothing - and you might get some points and night credits.

That said, if you must extend it to your guest, the surest way to do so is to check-in yourself and hand the keys to your guests.

The mobile check-in does not mean anything other than confirming you are coming and for them prepare for your arrival - you will still need to physically check in at the front desk. If mobile check-in was something that you bypass the front desk, I would have booked cheap rooms in far flung places where night rates are cheap, book 30 nights at a time, and earn the highest tier status in hotel programs withouth even stepping foot on the property.

  • For Marriott, you can only reserve rooms for somebody else through paid reservations. (Even this may not be true for all hotels, so best check with the specific hotel before you book).

You will provide guest details when you book.
Guest will be required to provide ID upon check in.

You should not be logged in to your Bonvoy account when making bookings for other people. Accounts are for individuals and points/rewards are not transferable.
