Different tier of product and fbmp depends on whether you can score it? All good though.

    • +4

I would be VERY cautious when buying anything Eero from FBMP

If it is a US import, it is most likely a cheap carrier router which will eventually become bricked between 3-12 months

      • -6

mine is aussie version not us import

        • +7

Even then aussie routers can still be ISP locked and bricked depending on how they acquired it, especially now since ISPs in Australia were given this ability with the Eero 7 system. Its just going to be a lesser risk but a risk I would never take.

          • +2

@AircraftFreight: I never knew how much they could see into your Eero network through that! Was watching a YT video on something slightly off-topic and he explained parts they could access/see if the device was purchased through them.

Turned me off instantly from the ISP deals that include the device for free or a significantly reduced price.

    • +3

okay and? they're not comparable purchases

I hate mine, takes a good 30 minutes of screwing around restarting each one in different orders before they start talking to each other after a power outage.

    • Out of curiosity have you got them hardwired through ethernet? I'm planning to do that when I move in and hoping I don't have the same issues:(

      • I have the same issue, and one of my two Eero devices is hard-wired via Ethernet. I have an Ethernet cable running to the second storey, where it plugs into a router. My second router upstairs then connects to this one over Wi-Fi.

After a power outage, I usually go through a random process of switching each router off independently and performing resets in the Superloop app. Eventually, it starts working, but even after two years, I still haven’t figured out a consistent method.

      • No, just have the one plugged in

  • +8

The paywall of eero plus is a major downside considering the decent work they did making it a decent router, especially with additions of the zigbee/matter in each mesh point. Definitely tempting at these lower prices though

    • what is paywall?

      • -3

think he means price point or price range

        • +17

Nah I mean you have to pay for the eero plus membership to unlock certain aspects of your device. One is your network can automatically switch to your phone’s mobile hotspot (or another designated wireless backup) during internet outages and switch back when service returns. That feels a bit dodge, they should offer that for free, as it’s your router and it’s your own hotspot. Different if it was a 5g access they provided.

            @madseason: That madness.

            • +1

@ChickenAdobo: i kinda mean that;s a given with 'amazon' branded equipment

surely there's some bezo like phuccery going on in the background wrt subscriptions and data mining… there has to be i mean

          • @madseason: agree. These devices are begging for a jailbreak or root.

          • @madseason: I'm with "More" Internet and they include a lot (if not all) of the plugins for free.

            • @WhyPayRetail: @WhyPayRetail if you switch retailer will you still get to keep the plugins?

              • @madseason: No idea…I haven't tried and pretty happy with the service and pricing so far.

I'm not sure if eero's get locked to retailers either.

  • recently bought a mercusys ax1500 2pack , set the second node in my room(wired), and across the room with both door closed, had intermittent drop outs/slow connection. wondering if eero6+ will fix this issue? considering on how super light the node was, maybe the quality/penetration through walls isn't as good as eero? keen to hear others thoughts.

    • A lot of what I read prior to buying a 3-pack suggested ethernet for all three as the optimal solution. Previous gens of eero seemed to have issues with wi-fi only, hence I opted with the eero 7 for the minimal price difference against the lower gen purely for longevity. Either way I have ethernet ports throughout so will default to that option.

      • only 2 can be hard wired as we don’t have ethernet port in each room unfortunately.

    • I have the ax1500s too! a 3 pack, it's been absolute rock solid in our 3 bedroom house (small/medium sized)

      • wired or wireless?

        • main unit is ethernet, other 2 are wifi

  • Old house, normal timber/plaster walls, 10m and a couple of walls between wifi attached nodes.

Any advantage between the 7 and the 6+? Probably just going to buy 2x singles of either. I don't see the 3pk being useful despite the slightest better value per node.

My suspicion is that wifi7 won't really help as it's only for super short spans with no interference.

Currently on an old Asus router but wifi at the far end of the house is dodgy in some spots.

    • +1

You could consider buying another Asus router and using Asus’ mesh function (assuming old router supports it). I have two Asus routers at home and they’ve been bullet proof for 2 years.

      • Cheers. Did some reading on this and it sounds like even mesh in general may not be great for me after all.

The end of the house with issues is 100% mobile devices, sounds like all mesh units won't swap a client from one node to the next until it fully disconnects from the previous? In that case it's going to work poorly as I'm guessing I'll just end up with poor connection to the distant node all the time.

May be better off with just a more powerful single router.

    • buy 3 , sell 1

      • Yeah that's probably the smart way hey

I have google nest wifi 1st generation. Should I upgrade?

    • +1

I have the Deco M5 for years too - just wondering if I should too!

      • Telstra gen 2 modem from 2019, works fine in 4 bedroom house, wifi reaches to backyard security cam upto front porch coach lights. Only issue is reboot takes upto 10 mins every time there is outage. not sure if its time to upgrade

    • For me the shift to wifi 6+ gave me wireless transmission to a Firestick in a projector of high bitrate files.

Apart from everything being generally faster and blanket coverage this was the real value add for me. Stutter free viewing.

  • What's the major difference between this and the 6+? The 6+ is currently on discount as well.

    • +6

      eero 6+
One eero 6+ covers up to 140m2.
      Wi-Fi 6.
Ethernet: Two Gigabit ports on each eero 6+.

      eero 7
One eero 7 covers up to 190m2.
      Wi-Fi 7.
Ethernet: Two 2.5GbE ports on each eero 7.

  • I have a 6+,but looking to join Southern Phone and getting the 7. I've read that i can use the 6+ as a point, does it work well like that?

  • Do I need a router to work with these? I'm moving into town soon, will going from Starlink to NBN which I'll be upgrading.

Also, is it worth paying extra for the Pro to go tri band, faster ethernet ports? House of six including one who is a streamer.

    • The eero base unit is a router, though not with a heap of ethernet ports if you have stuff hardwired.

Idk between the models. Still working that out myself.

      • +2

Go Pro triband if you can. Or Max if you can too. Not worth it for WiFi 7 I would say, as a Pro 6e owner.

      • Sorry I meant to put modem, not router.

        • NBN supply the modem for you. Then it’s BYO (separate device) router.

Starlink combined modem and router into one unit.

NBN modem is just a modem, no router built in.

  • I am looking for wifi 7 modem, is it worth to buy eero 7 pro? or save money to buy eero7?

  • 30% off stacked with 12% Topcashback is OK. Maybe better deals for black friday? Hodl

Just want to add a few comments since I’ve got a bunch of eero6+ setup at the minute.

It’s worth noting that the eero6+ has been revised a little- especially the multi packs . The original triple eero6+ (all have two ports) vs the eero6+”true mesh”triple pack only one has two ports. I’ve been looking at adding a few more boxes and have now been looking at the eero7pro.

The wifi 7 on eero7 is only dual band (2.4/5) still.

The eero7pro has tri band (2.4/5/6) for wifi 7.

Worth noting that aussieboardband and leaptel offer discounts on the eero7 and eero7pro modems if you have their service. Superloop offer the eero 7.

All the above providers give you the eero plus subscription free. It’s actually applied to your eero account and then makes any eero device that you administer have the subscription features.

    • Providers do give Plus but their units are branded so the app shows ISP logos and text. YMMV with disassociation requests (unbranding). From what I've seen the ISP usually does not action any disassociation request.

      • Thank you for this. Does anyone know if the plus service is cancelled once you leave the provider? Also I thought the provider give eero secure, vs the eero plus that is missing features like password manager VPN etc? Thank you

      • So I actually manage 5 eero networks- I’ve got 17 of the eero 6+ boxes.

Only 4 of those boxes were provided by Superloop- the rest I bought through Officeworks or JB Hifi in previous deals. My eero app loads with the Superloop logo though- even on networks that don’t have a Superloop eero box- that’s what makes me thinks it’s applied to all accounts.

Yes - it’s eero secure- there doesn’t seem to be a way to upgrade to plus. There's no VPN or password manager- I don’t think all eero features in the USA are available here.

    • Same for "More" internet. Discounted eero 7 devices (I have the 6+ that I got a year ago) and free subscriptions. Also a discount for CBA customers.

  • I was waiting for a sale on this, but ended up buying a set of Tenda because it was cheaper. Anyone able to help me out on the specs of the BE3600 vs Eero 7? I'm not too knowledgeable on this stuff.

So far the tenda has worked great. Super easy so set up, dont even have to register or link the nodes. Just turn them on, and all the nodes from the same pack start talking to each other its great.

Link to the Tenda BE3600 WiFi 7 i bought

  • I am happy to share the cost for 3 pack in Adelaide.

    All I need is 1x eero 7

    • Too much messing about should the need for warranty arise, as they're going to insist on return of the entire pack.

    • Which Asus router did you buy?

  • Not sure if there are down sides to getting modems from an ISP but if you sign up for one month of NBN, AGL has one eero 7 for $194 (120 + 74) or $167 (120 + 47) if with agl electricity. They also have two eero 7s for $314 (240 + 74) or $287 (240 + 47) if with agl electricity

Better to go tri-band for mesh systems.

    • Eero 7 Pro and Max are tri-band

      • yup, which isn't this deal.

  • Dammit - bought the Pro 7 in the last sale for -20% off and haven't even moved into my new place to use it yet!

Anyone know the success rate of getting a refund after the return window? Unused although the box seal has been broken.

    • +1

Through Amazon? Refunds are easy af

      • +2

Okay yeah, that was easy - I've only ever done returns maybe once in my history and that was within the 30-day period. Chatting with CS was easy as and no push-back.

        • Well - I have clearly been missing out here.

Dropped off the device at Aus Post at lunch and got a refund 3 hours later.

Now to decide if I want the even further reduced price of the Pro 7 again or go for a Max 7 and call it a day for "future proofing".

  • Isn't the standard wifi-7 product having 6Ghz? This 2 bands wifi router just like a 'electic' car with only 48V system build-in ..

    • +1

Multi-link Operation (MLO) and Flexible Channel Utilisation are the mandatory requirements to achieve Wi-Fi 7 certification, however, the 6GHz band is optional. The biggest benefits of Wi-Fi 7 are realised without the need for the extra band, albeit the niche use cases for faster speed and lower latency would be good for some people.

    • I would also prefer a tri-band option with 6Ghz

      • eero Pro 7 and eero Max 7 has tri-band 6GHz.

  • I'm still not quite understanding why you need a mesh setup in a new home when it sounds like you have ethernet throughout the home? Why do the access points need to talk to one another?

My understanding of a mesh system is where there is no ethernet and the access points talk to one another to get more distance and better coverage.

    Or am i missing something?

    • The advantage is that the nodes are connected to each other via ethernet and not acting as glorified Wi-Fi extenders. The chain starting one Eero 7 next to the NBN box and the rest hardwired through the walls. I'm moving into a three-storey space so I will still need this setup for Wi-Fi coverage on every floor (mobile phones, tablets, smart devices, etc).

  • anybody in syd want to split a 3 pack eero pro 7? as i only need 2

  • -5

just the other day I switched NBN provider from Tangerine (PPPoE) to Leaptel (IPOE) and it was impossible to change the ISP Settings on the eero app. I had to CALL SUPPORT who were unable to do anything remotely (for obvious reasons) and I had to hard reset the eero losing ALL network configurations, pretty much starting from scratch. The amazon support acknowledged they are aware of the issue and the engineering team 'is working on it'.

So, this networking device requires to be connected to the internet so it can be able to connect to the internet! Yes, it makes no sense and so does anyone who buys it knowingly.

As most OzB people also churn NBN ISPs, save yourselves the headache and skip all eero products for now.

    • +1

Yeah, it's very annoying. I had to call them as well. But lucky for me the could change the ISP settings from their side, which is impossible on the app.

      • +2

the fact that amazon can remotely change settings on a private network device with no way to disable it is also very concerning, but that at least they tell everyone in the product manual/TCs so we can't really complain

      • Wait, so there's no way to enter in the ISP username / password etc?

  • Is this really wifi 7 if its dual band?

    • +1

      Tri-band 6GHz is optional for Wi-Fi 7.

  • Is this best bang for Buck for single storey home? 1 node will be in the garage with remaining 2 spread around the house.

  • What is the admin interface like on these models? e.g. ability to assign static IPs etc to devices and basic functionality like that

  • Managed to negotiate this down at JB Hi-Fi to $410 (after birthday voucher), stocks were low in the two or three JB stores near me (Perth).

  • Seems like the pro is also on sale.
I am no mesh geek. Is it worth spending the extra on this to future proof?

    https://amzn.asia/d/4RLK6Zs

    • Yes it is, Tri-band and faster internal specs.

  • Shoback boosted to 12% ATM too

    • TCB - 20% boosted. :)

  • This router is free if you sign up NBN100 from Southern Phone before 14/9. I am using it, nothing special. It only worth when it's free, otherwise, there are many better options for the same price. I never pay $2xx for it :)

    • I'm in the market for a new router. Genuinely asking what are the better options there? Don't really need mesh functionality - having a smallish house and one router with strong wifi signal should be sufficient.

      • Flint 2, Flint 3 for the best routers. For access point: Grandstream GWN7670, Netgear WAX630E… Many options out there.
