I had older MX-es in the past and the scroll wheels would lost "traction" after a while, wondering if they are more reliable with the 3S?

    • +3

Nope. They're not. I had every generation of these and the wheels all lost traction. It was so annoying. The real question is if they fixed it in 4

    • yeah i have 2x master3's
      one work
      one home

the work one the scroll wheels just spins so freely and fast
while the home one has some resistance to freely spinning

      • +4

I think you know this, If you click the wheel it changes from free to resistance.

        • yeah but when its on free spin theres different resistance/feel on both mice

          • @Far Cough: You didn't accidentally click the little button that's under the scroll wheel? Totally changes the feel. I've had an MX3 for years without issue.

            • @maxpwr: no, i know the button….
im talking about when both mice are set to free spin, one really free spins, while the other has some resistance to free spinning

    • +1

The clicks feel magnetic, so if that were the case I’d expect no loss of “traction”. At least I’ve not noticed any difference after around three years.

      Edit: I’ve misunderstood

    • +1

      Planned obsolescence.

    • was researching how to fix my MX

Found out they've cheapened out of parts so they all fall apart within a few years

Fortunately, my favourite brand pre covid Cherry are back… or just accesible to Australians again .. via Amazon

I remember looking them up, of course its German engineering

      • Link?

    • great mouse for work terriable for gaming.

    • the issue is dust getting stuck in the scroll wheel. Search up methods to remove and after that it feels like new again, but the dust comes back quick

      • +1

Exactly this. I find interdental picks - the little tiny brush kind with flexible wire like a pipe cleaner - are great for cleaning the wheels and under all the buttons. They grab the dust and you follow up with little compressed air.

    • Has it ever been that low?

    • +1

      When was the 3S ever $50 AUD…

      • -1

I bought three when they were at $50.

    • +2

I love your commitment to the bit.

    • Sounds like some sort of special staff pricing that no one in reality ever got.

    • Pfft it's not 4K, no AI, no RGB, 0 nits, no wireless fast charging………. It'S wOrThLeSs!1!1

  • +3

good mouse but kind of prefer the more ergonomic mx vertical now that im getting older…

    • +2

Same — wish they made the Master in a vertical version

MX Master 4 also doesn't have the stupid plastic coating that deteriorates

    • This was a factor I considered, but I also know people who have had the MX Master 3s for a few years, and they still seem fine. It does seem to be a common complaint and one they seem to have addressed on the MX Master 4.

      • +2

I am currently using the MX Master 3S for nearly a year and the coating under the palm and at the thumb grip are deteriorating to the point of shiny, sticky and bubbly. I don't clean with harsh materials, just use it a lot each day and my hand runs on the hot side. With that being said, I am currently eyeing off the 4, but I might wait until released so the deals can start.

        • Damn, I've been using mine for only a year too but absolutely no wear at all. I don't clean it with anything besides a quick wipe with a microfiber cloth and that's it.

        • +1

i use this to remove the sticky feeling
          https://surgicalhouse.com.au/Product.php?id=403100

        • The 4 is out, but it would have cost me nearly double what the 3s cost in this deal. My current mouse in my home office has issues, so I needed a replacement sooner rather than later and had a few people recommend the MX Master 3s

        • I've got an original MX Master that has gotten a bit shiny in some areas but no coating to rub off. Seems better made.

          • @LanceVance: No coating but I found the thumb button rubber cracked and broke through so I had to disconnect the button under it and sugru it all up

    • +1

Mine annoyingly did this after a couple years of usage. I took care to use the mouse with clean hands, but never wiped it after each use (who does!). Think it just reacts to natural sweat/oils differently. Was easy to strip the plastic and replace with a cheap 3d printed part though and it is better than new!

    • It also comes in dust-sweat grey, so you never need to clean it.

  • +10

you can now get the master 4 from jb hifi for $154 if you have a commercial account

    • I'm still using the MX Master 1 from about 8 years ago and its still running strong besides looking a bit shiny. Never tried any of the new iterations. Would it be worth the upgrade?

      • +1

I have both MX Master 1 and 3s, and no, it's not worth the upgrade unless you absolutely need USB-C charging.

The only problem I had with MX Master 1 is that the gesture button gets stuck after a while (I have two of them and they both have the same issue). As I never use that button I just opened the mouse and cut the cord that goes to that button. Problem solved.

      • +1

Same, my original MX Master still going ok. The ratchet scroll doesn't work though, the scroll wheel just spins freely, which is what I prefer. The thumb button doesn't work, I've already opened it up to loosed the screw initially, so I'll need to do it again, but I don't use the thumb button anyway.

      • Don't be stingy. If you want sharp work you need sharp tools. Get t he mx master 4😂😅

    • -1

Isn't the pricing also variable with JB commercial depending on access?

    • Is it easy to get a commercial account?

      • i have it from work

      • Some unions have a generic access to it.

      • +1

        ART super has access

    • How do you get a commercial account?

    • The delivery date says 20th October. When is yours?

  • This, or the Rapoo MT760 when it goes on special?

    • checkout Phylina M10 on aliexpress. Been using it for last 6 months at work and comparing it against my collegues MX Master and I feel there is no difference. Got for under $25 about 6 months ago - supports bluetooth and comes with dongle, RGB and side scrolling work well(have only used side scrolling on excel). YMMV.

      • @expertreader hi can you confirm the model and name? Couldn't find it on ali

        • I tried to provide link but can’t. If you search for victsing m10 then it’s similar to what I bought. Mine had a generic description without model number- what brand and model I provided in my previous comment was straight from the bottom sticker on the mouse.

    • Also look at the Keychron M6 or M7. A little lighter so better if work and game.

  • +4

Have had the MX master 3S for like 2 years or so now. Use it daily and travels with me on flights a few times a month. Hasn't skipped a beat, and has held up well. Don't have any of the grip peeling or stickiness that some report online. If you look after it, these are a no brainer for a highly productive work mouse.

  • I was going to get one of these to go with my master keys s keyboard but apparently they have a low polling rate that you can notice on high refresh rate monitors. I believe the rapoo copy has a much better polling rate.

    • Using this mouse on my 165Hz monitor, yeah you can notice the 125Hz polling rate of the 3S. Appauling that the MX Master 4 is still using the same sensor.

  • My MX2 playing up.

  • just don't read all the response here, they all fall a part pretty quick

Im an old school Logitech fan, they're just intentionally making low life mouses now

Look up Cherry the German brand on Amazon

  • How does the file transfer thing work? Can I transfer from my work computer to me personal?

    • Using Logitech Flow

      • Does it need to be installed on both machines?

  • I wouldn't touch these again. I've bought two over the past two and a half years and both failed just after warranty expired. I'll stick with the cheap Rapoo copy.

  • I won't buy new MX mouse until my MX3 is broken.
