For those paying in USD this is how you get the correct exchange rate in PayPal:

AliExpress trade in USD and setting overseas websites to AUD or letting PayPal do the currency conversion results in an inflated rate. To get the correct rate you need a card without international fees and do the following:

  • Set the website currency to USD
  • Checkout with PayPal
  • Select your card with no international fees
  • Click "See currency options"
  • Select USD to bill the card in USD instead of AUD
  • Proceed with checkout

Now you'll get the correct MasterCard or VISA exchange rate depending on the card.

I have one of these and it is great for the money, but be aware it is big and heavy. With the Lenovo case (which is also heavy) it weighs about the same as my laptop.

    • Have you found a good, reliable keyboard?
Also second the above comments, it's great but isn't very light.

      • +1

I have been using an old Logitech K300r I had laying around, but it has a USB A dongle.

I just ordered a $20 Bluetooth keyboard/trackpad one from AliExpress - "JOMAA 2.4G Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard with Number Touchpad".

Clear is an absolute giga chad. What did we do to deserve all this good deal hunting?

  • +1

Anyone have any idea how this would compare to budget android devices like Samsung A9+?

    • +11

Pretty sure it pumps the A series

      • +10

        There are FOUR lights!

        • +1

I vaguely understand that to be a star trek reference, but I don't get it in this context

          • +8

@Borg: I negged this last post because you are having a break down and I wanted to add to your burden.

Also, the ChatGPT response you gave said a lot without any useful information, it reads more like someone trying to fill a word count rather than actually give useful information.

            • -7

              @FabMan: Fair enough.
I was just answering a question asked by previous person. To me it summed it up well i.e. it is a newer device with better everything except for ongoing support compared to A9+. In turn didnt see a need to need to adjust being an overview. Not to worry and thanks for your reasoning/response.

              • +1

                @Borg:

I was just answering a question

You didn't answer anything, you pasted text from the next word guessing machine - and then acted like it was in any way a constructive addition to the conversation.

Nobody needs you to be an LLM concierge

                • -3

                  @Switchblade88:

then acted like it was in any way a constructive addition to the conversation

On the contrary, I found the information informative.

        • +2

Because you asked: I think because people can use chatgpt themseleves if they want an answer from it. A human answer in comparison questions is often more useful than chatgpt answers imo, as theyre often like: i really liked x and y but z was a deal breaker for me. Chatgpt is never going to say yea the weight makes it too heavy to read in bed and i had a bunch of apps open and it was laggy as hell and the chinese menu is annoying etc. But thats exactly the type of succint dealbreakers that people are looking for. Your chatgpt paste is informative but lacks the human usage element i guess.
Also I think most people dont want the internet to get more filled up with chatgpt responses rather than genuine human answers.
Its also kind of annoying to respond to a request for information with a "just google the two and then decide". I can see why you said it, but the poster knows they can do that (and knows they can ask chatgpt). That kind of sentiment maybe goes against what is generally a pretty helpful group of people here

      • +1

As requested, I'll give a reason for the neg.
Just too generic/partly incorrect to be useful.

If you had actually read the response from chatgpt, you may question why phone call and text functionality matter in a tablet. It also lacks specificity in its response, ie what exactly are the difference in specs and how exactly does it affect user experience? .

    • +5

Much much better display, more powerful processor

    • +6

I have the Lenovo Xiaoxin Pad Pro 2025, 12.7" is large, has a high resolution of 2944 x 1840 screen and a high refresh at 144Hz, decent amount of system RAM at 8GB,128GB storage, supports GSM SIM, has Wi-Fi 6, and fast storage. You usually won't find such specs on budget Android devices.

The Lenovo app Smart Connect that works on it is useful to me, as I use the Lenovo tablet as a second screen. It feels premium.

  • +2

Is this a good candidate for a Home Assistant wall dashboard?

    • I was thinking about running a HA server.

      • +2

For a HA server grab a second hand Dell (3070/3080) micro or Lenovo tiny (m910q/m920q) >=8th gen.

        I get them for $60 to $120.

Rock solid, almost silent, low power (Typical TDP: 35 W, idle: 9-11w) - hard to beat at this price point.

        • Enev then way over powered. One could run multiple Proxmox VMs or Docker containers on it.

          • @Borg: Agreed - most who run HA end up with proxmox running a bunch or RR's..

So while "over powered", it's IMO the perfect mix of TDP with room for additional tasks without breaking the bank.

        • I checked the marketplace for mini PCs, and the asking prices are way high for 6-7-years old devices. So, I'm thinking of getting a new mini PC from Amazon.

Currently, I'm running Termux on a Samsung A8 tablet.

          • +2

@san87: You're better off getting one from auction (that's where those Marketplace machines came from).. Find an auction house in your area that off load these (I assume they're ex gov or just large corperate clients). They go as low as $30 and as high as $140 for >= gen 8. There are usualy 50 - 100 auctioned off in one sitting - the prices can vary a lot depending on deman on that day.

            • @iDroid: What would I search for to find one of these auction houses? Would pickles be one?

I'm in Sydney, do you know any that would be good for those types of old ex-gov/corp machines?

              • +1

                @cursa-89: "IT clearance auctions"

                You'll get quite a few.

            • @iDroid: Thanks! I’ll look on the auction sites.

          • +2

@san87: A tablet is fine as a HASS dashboard but not as a server which runs 24/7.
No extra ports to add extra stuff like Nic, Bluetooth, Zigbee, Matter etc adapters if needed. The other issue is that they run off a battery rather than direct power which isn’t great for a 24/7 in use device. Not sure I would trust a battery regardless if plugged in. Best stick to the Mini PC idea.

            • @Borg: Yeah, I know the tablet isn’t ideal for an HA server.

I’m currently running an Apache server and an application (via Termux) to monitor my home’s electricity consumption and solar output. At the same time, I also use it to watch YouTube, and I only need to charge it two or three times a week.

        • I did this with a second hand HP ProDesk 600 G4 on Ebay - got lucky with the price though, 8th gen and newer desktops are very expensive used.

      • I don't think you can flash Home Assistant server on ARM devices outside of a Pi?

    • You can get much cheaper tablets for that purpose

    • +2

I'm using exactly this as one, in a 3D printed frame, wall mounted and using Fully Kiosk browser. Works very well, espescially with the 40-60% built-in charge protection.

      • Do you have a link to 3d 3D-printed frame STL you used by chance?

        • +2

Sure do, it's this one - sadly not free ($6) and not 100% designed for the PadPro 2025, however dimensions of the P12 are almost identical. Used this cable for charging too.

      • Is Fully Kiosk worth the money? What are the benefits to say running just Chrome in full screen if it is for home?

        • +1

It's a very valid question as it isn't exactly cheap - a couple of core features that tipped me over the edge are the ability for the screen to turn on when movement is detected from the devices camera, also - it integrates with HA and the tablet can be controlled remotely, e.g. telling it to load a page at a certain time of the day, or turning the screen and motion detection off in automations.

I don't use any of the lockdown features, although do use Kiosk-Mode to hide the extra UI components on the tablet.

There is a free unlimited (watermarked) trial - well worth a look before using Google Opinion Rewards to get it cheaper!

          • @Krosbow: Which version do you use? :)

I don't mind paying a few bucks but many of the features you mentioned seemed like they could also be implemented by other sensors linked with HA… Or maybe I'm too familiar / used to doing that kind of stuff myself. I just created a silly panel today to play arbitrary messages on my Google speakers to get the kids to do stuff….

  • Why is 256gb not on sale

    • +1

Actually yeh this price not as good as I thought at first. Just looked back and paid US$173.59 for 256GB in June (sans case though).

Guess the cashback helps a bit as wasn't any on mine but did get 10% team shopping credit.

Kid wants to buy one now for drawing, I wanted to stick with 256GB for the faster memory.

      • Yeah, I'm the same.
        256GB was cheaper in August.

  • Got the Pro GT for some travel and just around the house tasks.

    Superb device and handles everything.

Only issue is chinese manufactured devices are blocked by most companies portals so wont allow you to install and use company apps (outlook, teams etc). Has anyone with one of these found a way around that. My company uses Company Portal / Authenticator.

    • Can you share a screenshot of what it shows inside the Play Store when you try to install these apps?

      • It's most likely upon sign in that it validates the device, not actually installing the apps.

        • yeah that could be the case, would still be useful to see the errors they're receiving

      • It installs them fine as there all available, when i register the device in company portal it blocks it with a company policy message.

I think its just the company maybe sets a policy to only allow local devices purchased in Australia. Its a Chinese rom with a Chinese OS ZUXOS so its easy to identify.

I get it though its a major company.

  • Thanks @Clear. Made the purchase. Does anyone have any recommendations for a case?

    • Bundled with a case isn't it?

      • I am not sure. I don't think so but I may be wrong.

        • Ah yeh, I saw "Bundle" and thought they included one as had seen that on other listings but it's "Bundle: Standard" I see.

I got a cheap trifold one with full TPU back. Case itself is fine but the cover magnet isn't very strong so doesn't always trigger the wake/sleep properly.

      • +2

Whats in the box (as per desc)Tablet *1, Charger *1ata cable *1 Quick Start and Security guide *
        No mention of case.

        • Just watched an unboxing video and there is no case included. I'll just go with the Lenovo folio case.

    • +1

I just use the official Lenovo folio case. Tried the keyboard case but didn’t think I’d use it in laptop mode very much

  • Do these things play all the streaming apps in 4K (or better than HD?)

I want to attach this to an exercise bike so i'll primarily be using it for content.

There are people complaining on reddit about disney+ in particular.

    • I've had some mixed results with this tablet when it comes to apps.

Kayo, Paramount, HBO & YouTube all work well with proper quality. However, Stan Sport shows SD at best. No idea why.

Also, some apps simply don't work properly, like Facebook. It won't let me log in & Amazon looks weird, not optimised, looks like a mobile phone version stretched out.

      • I have the same issue with Stan Sports, SD quality on this tablet.
I have a ticket with Stan Support for a month, they escalated it, but no updates for 3 weeks.

        • It's pretty disappointing especially since is passes Widevine L1. I guess these are the pitfalls of overseas ROMs. What makes it even weirder is that Stan streaming works fine in HD+, just not Stan Sport. Yet they are the same app. Bizarre. I raised a ticket as well.

  • Anyone knows if Roblox, minecraft or kids games works smoothly on these?
    Thx

    • +1

Yep all work well on this tablet.

  • Going to use this to read sheet music for band. Does it have a long battery and clear screen?

    • +1

I use this as a music sheet tablet and it's been awesome.

      • Perfect, all I needed to hear.

  • I read in a comment that this support lenovo pen precision 2 in a previous post.

    It does not.

None of the 3 pens I have that work on my P11 Pro 2020 works on this one.

Why can't they use god damn USI pens or something.

Anyway any recommendations for a cheap pen?

    • Not sure what pens you have, mine is a Lenovo single button with USBC charging. After a tablet os update around June that removed 32 bit support , I got a bunch of issues.

      1. Pen barely registers touches on the screen when refresh rate of screen set to 144hz. Draw a 10cm line and get about 4mm of scattered bits of line. Had to drop screen refresh rate down to 60hz to get it to work. Updated pen to latest firmware and no better. Unpaired, reboot, re-paired 50 times before working out the screen refresh workaround.

      2. Menu and apps randomly revert to partial Chinese language, even when system is still set to English. Reboot usually pulls it back, but it's annoying.

      3. There's a third annoying thing but I can't remember what it is!

Overall I quite like this tablet, but it's got irritants in the latest firmware.

  • I can't get the $16 discount on your screenshot

    • What does it say when you apply the code?

  • -1

This coupon code is for single use only

    • Both of them?

  • +1

Have the 2022 version - use it everyday, great quality

  • Great tablet. I have the 2024 version. Only issue is I can't seem to stream through my local Plex media server.

    • Hmm

Have this issue on another Lenovo tablet I think xiaoxin 2022 thought it might have been just the fake global ROM …

    • Damn…I was just about to purchase but this is a deal breaker for me if true. Can anyone confirm?

  • -1

I found this similar tablet for a similar price (40 aud difference i think), helio g99, not 144hz, similar resolution, same storage and ram capacity and the extra thing being sim support

works with the same codes here to have it 316 delivered, not including any cashback or PayPal discount.

    • +3

Massive difference in performance between a Helio G99 and Dimensity 8300. You won't go past Android 15 with it either. At launch it was US$179.99 before tax.

      • ah thanks for the headsup

  • Looking to get two of these for my kids. They mainly use our current (old and laggy) tablet for youtube, games like clash royale, and other typical streaming services. Assuming this is more than enough for that!

Also, is this a compatible cover? Will definitely need one and a screen protector. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005008667263376.html?spm=a2…

    • Looks like it is.

Not sure how old your kids are, but just a heads up these tabs are bigger and heavier than you might expect (tho quite thin and nice to handle until you slap a case on it).

Great tab though and will handle all of that with ease

      • Thanks for the reply! They're primary school age, but they typically just lay it on the lounge to watch. I think the weight would be ok.

Do you happen to know if you can clear any other languages and have everything default to English? Not the most tech savvy but can follow a few easy steps usually to get things running the way we want!

        • Yes you can, some of the built in apps still pop Chinese notifications, but everything else is in English.

        • From memory you can select English when first setting up, then it's mainly uninstalling the Chinese apps. Enable Google Services and add the Play Store.
Use Google Translate camera on your phone to get you through any unknown Chinese prompts.

There's some steps linked in the OP.

  • Can we extend the storage using a microSD?

    • +2

Yes has an SD slot, though if you think you'll need more than 128GB I'd suggest keeping an eye out for a 256GB deal.
When I got mine a few months back it was only an extra $20 something. You also get the benefit of faster UFS4.0 storage (which was the main reason I got the 256GB over the 128GB)

  • been thinking of getting this but dont know if i 128gb is enough. ill prob just use this for watching yt, read, social medias and maybe one or two games to test it out.. i am impatient so i dont want to wait months for a 256gb deal. whats the likelihood of a 256gb deal popping up soon?

    • $40 for another 128GB microSD from JBHifi.

      • do these newer devices support loading apps on sdcard or is that a thing in past Android a bygone era?

  • +1

I had a 2022 version. Died after 1.5 years. Went for samsung this time.

    • Which samsung?

Unfortunate that it died tho, any idea why?

My p11 pro 2020 is going strong (which I think I brought in 2021 or 2022?) my only issue with it is the storage space.
