JB Hi-Fi is clearing out the old models — the M3 MacBook is currently on clearance, and there seems to be plenty of stock available.

Who did you price match?

Officeworks

I can't comment on the difference but I bought an M4 Macbook Air recently and have zero qualms about it's usability

I was gonna ask for day to day, can tell much difference between m3 n m4?

Honestly I kind of doubt it but I don't know for sure.

None at all, most likely. Unless you run benchmark software. Same laptop with incrementally upgraded CPU.
The only big difference at launch was the 16GB as standard for M4.
M4 supports dual external monitors, prior models only support one.

@davlloyd: If you buy a MBA, chances are you may not dual 2 monitors. If I need dual monitors I'd def go with the Pro.

I paid $1K 2 weeks old off FBM M4 16/256 :)

With M5 announcement you'd have to assume the m3 line will drop more regularly closer to/below 1k with sales/clearance stock. And hopefully good deals on the M4 come BF sales. I'd wait.
If you NEED one now, as mentioned above, get an M4. It's not the type of laptop you rotate out every year, probably worth the M4!

It's funny how you see used ones (identical model) on Marketplace for more than this, some of them only 8GB RAM as well

wake em up from cryosleep & give them a reality check..

This. A lot of second-hand sellers either think they’re selling some kind of treasure or assume people are too dumb to look up prices. I get that you’d want to leave some room for negotiation, but it’s still funny seeing how much some of them mark things up.

lol so true.

I have an M1 Air, and considering this deal. Don't know if there would be a considerable difference in my use case to upgrade. Mainly online CRM type work. The usual excel word doc stuff. Currently the M1 smashes multiple tabs open with no issues. Any thoughts appreciated.

Thoughts and prayers. It's the least I could do for a Wallabies suffertor.

If your current one smashes what you do with it, then just keep using it. Save your money.

If upgrading, why not to the M4? Its 20 to 30% faster, for 25% cost increase, so you aren't getting ripped off for the upgrade.

Ive bought my daughter your one for xmas. A few weeks ago, Debating to return it and get this…

Keep your M1 until you feel it's not doing the job fast enough anymore. The step up from Intel to the M1 was huge. still have the M1 Pro (with 32GB RAM) and can't see myself updating anytime soon - it's a killer machine and fast enough for my purposes. As soon as you need to wait for tasks and feel a slowdown consider updating. Save your money.

is 256gb enough for Macs these days + a few more years? definitely not on Windows but at least you can change your SSD rather easily to upgrade
for example, your photos/videos will easily fill the drive

No, not really.

Depends, I’ve got an older 128gb Pro but I’ve got around 400gb of stuff in the cloud. If you’re happy to use cloud services or an external hard drive it’s enough

depends what you're doing with it, easy to plug in a fast external drive for media etc if you need it
or limit how much you're syncing from cloud services

How does the ipad air M3 compare for like uni use?

Completely different product.

Disagree for uni use. iPad with a keyboard is capable of being a laptop replacement for students that don't require Windows or MacOS thus making them comparable products. Even better if you can add an Apple Pencil.

Unless your course requires programs on Windows or MacOS, I would go with an iPad + Keyboard + Apple Pencil for uni. This MacBook is of course way more powerful.

looks to be gone from JB

I can see the ad is still there

I doubt if this was a real deal. I didn’t see it and few have pointed out it didn’t work for them either, even on the day it was posted.
Did anyone use it?
I even went to check with JB HiFi if this was a real deal and they checked their systems for historic offers and prices for the said product and they said no it was not there.

Would recommend paying a little extra for the M4. I paid 1370 from JB last week (with price match and 5% off gift cards)
