I think you mean bad product.. the deal, for the product category, is actually pretty good.

What website do you think you're on? Literally the obsessive compulsive buying central of Australia

You’re back. I guess it’s back to business as usual. And by business I mean trash talking and not offering any useful alternatives.

      Bad comment

Cheap, but its only a 4GB 3050…? Bean a while since I've looked at gaming laptops but surely thats lacking these days?

MSI Thin 15 i5 RTX 3050 4GB. Performs ok for under $680. No better brand new options at this price.

      • +4

Seems like a good cheap option (if you don't want to play brand new AAA) but better value for money if you spend more.

        • +10

Correct. Spending more money = better laptop.

        • +1

Yeah, at this budget, I would consider a second hand laptop. You could probably get a RTX 2060 laptop or 3060 with some patience but I understand some don’t want to deal with the hassle. Especially with laptops since maintenance is required more frequently and is usually more difficult than with a desktop.

My 4Gb 1650 still plays fortnite low 100fps 1440p and Baldurs Gate 3 medium settings. It plays just about everything OK and thats a 6 year old 4Gb card

    • Agreed 4GB is on the low end. Given that, if you play 1080p on low end for most games, you can enable lossless frame gen on the iGPU. To help keep consisten 60 fps.

One of the better "cheap" gaming laptops, but just note the screen is very average and underwhelming, and it tends to run hot.

Is this one much better for $425 extra? I have store credit of $40 so it'll only be $385 more for me to upgrade to this one

Up to 4 hours battery life 🤔

      • +3

All MSI gaming laptops have short battery life and run hot as AF. Just keep charger plugged in.

    • Bigger ssd, better GPU and 2880x1800 OLED at what I believe is 120HZ also, not too bad.

    • The 4050 mobile will struggle gaming at that resolution, and you can't just run 1080p like you could with a 4k screen.

      • why not?

        • why not what?

        • They're referring to integer scaling. 3840x2160 is exactly 2x 1920x1080. Every pixel is represented by a 2x2 square and everything is relatively crisp. Anything that's not an exact multiple of the source resolution introduces blurriness and artifacting due to some pixels being bigger or smaller than others.

You could always run 2800x1800 at 1440x900, but that's starting to get pretty low.

However. DLSS, FSR and XeSS give you the option of rendering at a lower res and upscaling with way less blurring, so it's less of an issue.

          • @Erwark: If a 4050 struggles, what about a RTX 5050 (8GB)?
Will it matter much if I use an external monitor (say an 34' Ultrawide (3440 x 1440)?

            • @Ti-au: A Mobile 5050 on a 3440x1440 would not be a pleasant experience on modern games. DLSS Performance would be mandatory as a starting point.

    • Yes spending +70% more money will get you a better laptop

  • Can't go wrong with this price. Some used FB ads are asking the same lol

Thank you for this OP! Got $20 Gold Extra store credit to bring this down to $659.15. Delivered with Uber in 90 mins is added bonus.

Bought one, need the GPU not for gaming but for AI (running local LLM) ha ha.

    • I thought 4GB is very limiting for LLM, mainly can only ruin 2B-4b models.

    • What local LLM are you running?
I've found it pretty average compared to general LLMs/ or apps like NotebookLM…

  • Any where to get GCs for TGG?

  • This with lossless scaling app is amazing

  • -1

    they jacked the price up?

    • No

      • -2

im sure i seen it for $699 and now its $799

        • +1

It's showing $799 on the link. You have to add the 15% off voucher, but that is targeted.

  • How to get the targeted code?

  • Same as some others have asked, how do I get the code for 15% off? Do I sign up to the Good Guys newsletter and I will get it in my email?

  • Does anyone know if this one requires one of those brick power adapters?

I hated carrying my Legion around cos the adapter weighs a ton and it has no battery life without it.

    • +2

It has an ac adapter but it isn't huge.

    • Which legion ?

      • 5i with a 3080. Needs a 330W brick
