Haha late Telstra. And bad deal while you're at it.

  • +26

Pixel 9 Pro XL 256Gb for $697 or no deal

  • +6

even with the extra $600 trade in credit, doesn't come close to the current outright discounts.

    • You removed your reply?

      • +1

        Yeah, the math wasn't matching.

        It would relatively be 697-165+250

  • +7

Pixel 7 256GB has a trade in value of "up to $165" so I'd effectively be losing $85 off the bonus $600 to begin with.
For those of us that bought a $250 Pixel 7 at the weekend, the effective cost of Pixel 9 128GB would be $684
    1199 - 600 - 165 + 250
That's still cheaper than $697 at JB Hifi though.

  • +4

Requires you to have a current post paid plan with Telstra.

  • +1

this is a bad deal, sounds good but number says else.

  • On Thursday JB had an epic deal for Pixel 10 Fold: Up to $400 vouch trade in plus $1000 voucher. $1200 voucher for mobile plan. Additionally $300 voucher for the purchase. Additionally any purchases like magsafe products, cases are discounted.

    • +5

I am sure you thought of posting here but couldn't because you were too busy enjoying the discounts :)

      • -5

Reminds me of when anyone could smash Kim K

      • I found out on the day :( it's a standard of JB giving extra discounts but the $300 was a day only special

    • So how much you got it for after all the discounts?

      • I got around $150 gift card.

    • wow. is it still there?

      • For the Pro. Not Fold. The $1000 promo is finished though

  • -1

How are people using only 128gb.

    • +5

By not storing one's p**n stash on the phone perhaps?

    • +2

I use spotify or youtube for my music, videos are mostly streamed online so that alone might saves me space. Personal captured photos and videos from my phone are also uploaded to my personal cloud so effectively 128gb is workable for me as I'm sure some people are as well.

    • I stream music.
I don't game on my phone
      I stream video
Photos are backed up on cloud

    • yeah, it's an Apple ploy, offer cheapest product with limited storage, hook you in & charge a fortune for usable storage.

    • What do you do with it all? I don't think I've ever used more than 16gb or so

      • I haven't installed anything myself on my new Pixel 7 256GB and already 10% of the storage is taken up!
No photos, videos, music. No social media. Haven't even set up email yet.

    • I've got 84gb of apps ATM…..

  • +1

Can't use prepaid Telstra or Boost plans unfortunately.

  • these overly complicated deals are megh. I'm still yet to see some actual real examples.

  • Does anyone know if you're still eligible for the trade in bonus credit if you send in a damaged phone which is still in working order? Ie I have an old iphone 8 which still works but it has a crack in the screen. Trade in value would be $0 but just wondering if you would still get the bonus credit - can't really see much in the fine print. Thanks in advance.

  • Your pixel of choice minus trade in, minus 600cr
Plus cheapest post paid plan @70 for 1 month then cancel? Would the credit be taken off the phone price or added to your account? Would you be able to request refund of the credit if you cancel after the above 1 month?

    • +1

I'm doing exactly that with the P9P @ $799 over 36 months. Signed up for $70 plan intending to cancel after 1 month and sent in my Pixel 5 as a trade in just now for $60 plus $600 bonus credit. That should work out to 799+70-60-600= $209 for P9P. Waiting for the trade in credit to come through, I'll give an update here.

      • Why did you go for a 36 month contract? why not buy the phone outright?

        • I wasn't sure how the how the trade in credit would be applied if I had already paid off the device. The credit would most likely be refunded but I didn't want there to be any funny business like 'we can't refund the credit', so I thought I'd wait for it to be applied to the phone value then I would pay off the remaining amount.

          • @lynxfist: I see your point. I was a post paid customer and Telstra app chat are very quick at resolving billing issues once you lay out a full and good explanation. I'm going in-store to ask to be sure

          • @lynxfist: there is no information about how the trade in would work on their website.

          • +1

@lynxfist: Yes, in-store Telstra employee confirmed post paid plan or outright will yield the same result. Can cancel anytime/just pay the outright handset cost and credit can be withdrawn to your bank later if you leave.

      • Sorry, would you mind elaborating on this? I was thinking about the same but got somehow lost in sequence of actions. If I buy the phone first (P9P) with a plan ($70) I will get the account number. Only then I will be able to submit a trade in request. However, by that time the phone will have been already purchased and most probably dispatched. Will they require to buy another one to get $600 trade in bonus?

        • +1

Yes you buy the phone with a plan, then do a trade in using that phone number. The trade in bonus will be applied to the account within 30 days I was told by live chat. You won't be required to buy another phone, to be on the safe side I chose not to buy the phone outright, rather I bought it on installments so that the $600 bonus could be applied to the phone and then I will pay off the remaining amount.

          • @lynxfist: Isn't the $600 trade in bonus credit applied only if you buy the phone using trade in? In this case you are buying the phone first (without trade in) and then just doing the trade in.

Shouldn't it be you buy a plan first, then buy a phone using that account and trade in at the same time?

            • @dealsgrabber: It doesn't let you trade in at the same time when buying the phone, so there is no option to buy the phone using trade in

      • +2

Update: The $600 bonus credit is showing on my account now. I traded in my phone on 05/11 and the credit showed up yesterday 08/11. I can confirm the credit gets sent directly to your linked bank card, so purchasing outright shouldn't be a problem. In my case I have paid out the phone and cancelled the postpaid service with no issue. All up the cost for me was 799+70-60-600= $209 for the Pixel 9 Pro. Great deal!

        • Thanks for sharing. I iwll try this out too.

        • Did you buy it in physical Telstra store or did the purchase on Telstra online store?

          • @milanoxpress: I purchased online

            • @lynxfist: I am bit worried about the 17 Nov deal end date for the $600. If I buy tommorrow in store, would I have enough time to send my old phone for trade-in just inside timeline for the 17 Nov end date.
That is my concern. I don't have a current telstra post-paid service. I know from reading the comments here, the $70 month to month sim plan is the combo to choose + P9P.

If I jumped on this deal sooner, I would be comfortable pulling the trigger to buy p9p 128gb. I have 3 business days or 5 normal days remaining until the $600 credit deal ends. I'm not sure telstra will honour the $600 credit in the short amount time remaining. You got a good deal for p9p.

              • @milanoxpress: YMMV, but I did three separate online orders, and my online orders were delivered within two business days. I agree it is getting quite late to order now because you can only start the trade in once the phone is delivered and the trade in needs to be accepted by 17 Nov.

If you're unsure it's best to talk to someone from Telstra. I hope it works out for you.

                • @lynxfist: That why I’m trying to buy from a store so I can complete everything all in one spot.
Activate $70 sim then put the sim into the new P9P. Then give my old phone to Telstra store employee.

It seems Telstra stores need appointments to do anything.
My particular store fully booked out for 2-3 weeks?

That’s really weird because they can’t be that busy constantly. I’ve seen some Telstra shops really quiet with one or two customers & a still they want an appointment system!

Is wish I could drop by early in the morning opening time & buy the phone.

  • +3

It could be one of the best deal but it's not currently on ozbargainers' popular radar. P9P 256GB for 950, plus one month's plan cost 60, minus bonus credit along with you old device's trade in value.
It comes down to 950+60-600-trade in value=290-trade in value.
The only catch is how long do you have to stay before you can receive the bonus credit.
It will be effective all time low if you only need to stay for one month. Or else, even better if you can do it on one postpaid plan only but with multiple P9Ps and old trade in devices.

      • Which phone did you trade in?

        • Pixel 5

      • +1

I also did this on 3/11. Got the $70p/m upfront plan. Traded in 2 devices and bought 2 P9P's outright. Multiple staff said if i set up plan via direct debit then trade in refunds will be credited to my card. Got the trade in value the other day, still waiting for $600 bonus's

        • Did you use the same Telstra number to trade in both P9Ps? So it's not limited to 1 trade in for one Telstra post paid plan?

          • @dealsgrabber: Yes, I used the same telstra number. Did everything in store with staff for extra security… no limit mentioned in terms and staff confirmed ill still get the bonus on the second trade in… will report back once i get them

            • @Doesnotcompute: Thanks, let me know how you go.

              • +3

@dealsgrabber: Just recieved confirmation from telstra that 2x $600 bonuses are being paid to my nominated card.

At this point im looking for any spare devices that i can trade in for P9Ps, and then cancelling my service before second monthly charge.

                This deal is bonkers!

                • @Doesnotcompute: Thanks for the update. Did you send both trade in devices together?

                  • @dealsgrabber: I did it all in telstra store, including handing in my trade in devices on the spot.

                    • @Doesnotcompute: Thanks, I guess if I do the trade in separately, it shouldn't.matter. I have done the first trade in so I I get another P9P and do the second one it shouldn't matter.

                      • @dealsgrabber: Can I ask do you get monthly invoice for phone or was it once off with full price? Thanks

                • @Doesnotcompute: was the 2 x $600 credit were processed under 1 phone number / mobile plan? or 2 different mobile number?

                  • +1

@babiguling: Processed under the one telstra phone number.

                    • @Doesnotcompute: @Doesnotcompute thank you for sharing what you did. Did you purchase both phones at the same time or waited to trade in the first before purchasing the second?

                      • +1

@jdf: Did them about 3 hours apart of the same day. Traded and purchased first device… came back later to trade and purchase second

  • When do you do the trade in? I can't see it while buying the phone? Is it after you have purchased the phone? Do you need to receive the new phone before you do it?

    • +1

You can't trade in while buying the phone, in order to trade in you need to have an active postpaid number. If you opted for a new number then you'll need to wait until the phone is delivered because that's when the new number gets activated. The trade in process can only be initiated with an active postpaid number.

      • Thanks!

  • Anyone who submitted their trade in phone on Monday and got the $600 bonus credit?

  • +2

I posted my trade in phone and received $25 trade in value (pixel 4) on the day it was received 17/11. Received confirmation of $600 today 19/11 - 2 days later. I cannot believe this deal did not receive more votes…

    • That's what I said the other day.
This should be the best deal of the year or even at all times … so much better than this repost deal
fortunate for us who managed to secure this deal, otherwise it would be harder for us to get one.

      • +1

Best deal, just a little over $200 for the Pixel 9 Pro which even a year later wouldn't be selling at this price.

        • +1

yeah congrats mate! and even more it's the 256GB storage. better than any "JB Hifi + Telstra $766 exit fee" deal, imo.

Lucky this trade up deal wasn't popular, easier for us to get.

Trade in that P9P 256GB to get the 256GB Pro XL at telstra? LOL

BIG THANK YOU to OP @Doesnotcompute AND @lynxfist for the update
