Kicking off on the 1st of November is the AliExpress Mega Choice sale that'll apply on Choice products with the coupon banner visible under the price.

Furthermore, AliExpress have started to allow coupon redemption on the purchase of mobile phones in some coupon sales. Hopefully this one is included.

Edit: BDAU04 may give A$3 off A$3 spend, however according to AliExpress this is a "bug code" and won't work. It's been edited out of the title for being unconfirmed.

Minimum spend excludes GST and shipping. Limit 1 coupon per account and cannot be combined with the Welcome Offer for new users.

For those paying in USD this is how you get the correct exchange rate in PayPal:

AliExpress trade in USD and the ~ before the AUD prices in the deal means about or roughly. Setting overseas websites to AUD or letting PayPal do the currency conversion results in an inflated rate. To get the correct rate you need a card without international fees and do the following:

  • Set the website currency to USD
  • Checkout with PayPal
  • Select your card with no international fees
  • Click "See currency options"
  • Select USD to bill the card in USD instead of AUD
  • Proceed with checkout

Now you'll get the correct MasterCard or VISA exchange rate.

  • Do you know if the cashback promo will be running, too?

    • Afaik yes.

    • It looks like you will have a 1 hour window where the two deals will overlap (6pm -7pm aedt).

      • Coupons start at same time as Ali cashback ends, ie midnight PDT = 5pm AEST = 6pm AEDT

This kind of small discounts is easy to get from Temu daily - and much more generous from Temu - and they don't charge extra for GST.

    • +14

Except Temu doesn't stock all the brands like AliExpress, or if they do they're very expensive.

Essentially… Temu for cheap low value unbranded products if you don't mind spending $40+ in one go, or AliExpress for branded stuff.

      • +1

Aliexpress is much more trustworthy and easy returns. Temu you can get a lot of unbranded junk.
This goes a lot way for electronics

        In Clear, we trust.

  • -4

What happened to the 90-day free return policy? I received items that were either missing parts or the wrong size, and my refund cases were dismissed even provide evidences of images and video.

    • +2

Strange, they're normally pretty good with returns. Have you been returning a lot of items of late?

      • No. I seldom buy things from them.

    • -7

I find AliExpress a bit of a scammer. most of the stuff i've received is quite trash and misleading from the profile pictures/ website description the sellers put up.

      • +1

I use browser addons Alitools and Upassistant to help sort out good sellers and do image searches, and also check customer review photos, ignoring the text-only reviews.

      • I received either parts missing or wrong size or broken stuff. They refused to refund.

        • Choice items or bundle deals only for me. No issues since.

        • Did you dispute it and have AliExpress step in and look at seller and your evidence? That process usually takes quite a few days but have never had issues getting the refund in the end

  • -3

Why is all this suggested/necessary ?

AliExpress trade in USD and the ~ before the AUD prices in the deal means about or roughly. Setting overseas websites to AUD or letting PayPal do the currency conversion results in an inflated rate. To get the correct rate you need a card without international fees and do the following:
Set the website currency to USD
    Checkout with PayPal
Select your card with no international fees
    Click "See currency options"
Select USD to bill the card in USD instead of AUD
    Proceed with checkout
Now you'll get the correct MasterCard(mastercard.us) or VISA(visa.com.au) exchange rate.

Since PayPal always defaults using their US>AU currency conversion there is a fair risk of forgetting to tell it you want to pay in US$.
Using your Credit Card directly on AliExpress to pay in US$ seems like an easier, quicker and more reliable option.

    • +5

This is OzBargain and we like to save more 😉 It's fairly self explanatory… Set AliExpress to AUD and you pay more, set to USD and let PayPal do the conversion and you pay more, use a card with conversion fees and pay more, use your credit card instead of PayPal and lose PayPal buyer protection.

Or do what I said and pay less.

      • -6

Price is the same regardless if the conversion is directly on CC or via PP - the difference (and extra effort) appears to be for PayPal buyer protection.

        • +6

I just tested with a US$545.53 product at checkout

PayPal with my currency conversion fee free card set to bill in AUD with PayPal's rate - A$865.44

          or

PayPal with my currency conversion fee free card set to bill in USD with the MasterCard rate - A$833.89

          Difference: A$31.55.

So again, my steps are more than just buyer protection.

          • @Clear: This might be a dumb question, but does setting it to USD avoid GST, or is that set by the shipping address?

            • +1

@Big L: Set by address, IP etc.

  • Can I use 2 different coupons on 2 different transactions (1 unique coupon per transaction)? Or is it use one coupon and then I can’t use a different one on a different transaction?

    • You can use 2 different on 2 different transactions. Like for the US$2 off US$14 you can use AUOU03 on one transaction, then AUSS03 on another, followed by any of the others in the table.

Hey Clear, would you recommend we wait till 11th Nov for Singles Day deals? Will the deals and cash back be better on that day? I am keen to buy some stuff but really want the best deal possible, so can wait a little longer if it's worth it.

    • +3

Yeah 11/11 and Black Friday are anticipated to be the biggest. These Choice sales are fairly minor.

      • Thank you

  • @clear
There was a promo code for bundle items last month. Any at the moment?

    • Last sale they opted for a direct discount on everything in bundle deals. I suspect they'll do the same.

      US$0.79 branded USB-C cables yes please :)

      • In the 11/11 sale?

        • Nah a few weeks ago.

  • +1

Hrmm wanting to buy expensive headphones and can't decide if I should wait until 11/11… No guarantees in life

    • +2

Wait. If it's anything like last year, the coupons will be here again and in addiiton, there should be a sitewide sale where most products will automatically be discounted as well.

    • Which headphones if you don't mind me asking?

I bought a pair of FiiO FT1s using the codes and it basically just meant I paid no GST. Still much cheaper than local stock though.

      • +1

Looking at the fiio ft7 :)
        Those ft1 have incredible reviews!

        • +1

Ooft! Big purchase! Keen to see how they perform! They're currently $1149 at Addicted to Audio which is pretty good considering local warranty too…Wonder how much cheaper it might be on Aliexpress?

          • +1

@Munki: If prices hold they'd be $890 before any other cash backs or discounts so a decent saving on local. Wondering how close I could get to say $750.

            • +1

@drprox: Yeah that's a sizeable difference. I'm hoping for something sizeable off the DM13. Want a nice portable CD player!

              • +1

@Munki: Cool as! What was old is new again ey :)

                • +1

@drprox: I've still got so many CDs lying around AND it seems a lot of people are selling old classics for dirt cheap on FB marketplace. Sometimes I just want to listen to music without the internet, you know?

                  • @Munki: Haha the price on the ft7 I was looking at went up almost $200! Still a few reasonable but yes prices aren't going to hold.

                    • @drprox: Bummer! I'm pretty sure they're jacking prices like eBay now whenever there's a sale on…

  • Nice discounts, thanks Clear.

Just watch out for Ali Express' 17% GST rate on checkout.

  • +1

Too close to singles day. Gonna wait for that instead.

  • Hey guys, just looking at shopback cashback exclusions and it says:

"Purchases from China, Resellers and Fraudulent activities"

    Surely I'm interpreting this incorrectly…

    • +1

They mean to say people located IN China which is super silly because they can't even buy off Ali in the first place.

      • Ah thanks mate! Boy is that worded strangely haha

        • +1

It used to say in Australia 😐

  • Coupons can be collected on the app now. This will tie them to your account so that they auto apply. Usually you can still use them even after max redemptions since you've already collected them.

  • Anyone know if we will get a TCB cashback increase to stack with this? It was 15% until earlier today and is now ~5%

    • +1

      Nah not this sale

  • 17.5% discount is pretty upsized no?

    • Yes

  • Now we just need a good AMD CPU deal :)

    • +1

11/11 or Black Friday likely. AliExpress consider Choice sale to be small haha

  • Are we expecting more coupons and deals over 11/11, or these will last til then?

    • This ends the 8th. Expect more.

  • Hardly worth shopping AliExpress anymore - eg RAM DDR5 - cheaper bought in Australia ege Centrecom, JW Computers, or even Amazon Seems RAM has doubled in price since I last bought DDR5 5600 last November

    • Yep. Open AI - A single company purchased 40% of the worlds yearly memory chip supply form Samsung and Sk Hynix… OEM's are being beaten in price for chips and what they can get they are passing on the higher cost to customers. :) AI first came for our GPU's now its coming for our storage and Ram.

Supply shortages are expected to last at least 6 months maybe 12 according to industry makers like Samsung and Sk Hynix as they ram up production to meet the demand. Some economists expect the higher prices to last years. Even if the AI hype was to crash and burn tomorrow the memory chips being used for these data centers are not something us consumers can re-use for desktops.

  • So is the consensus to wait for 11/11?

    • +1

I'm waiting.. nothings for sale at a good price that i wont even after the discount
