Beast of a lens.. Not for me at the moment, I’m after a fast-ish compact zoom lens to replace my FE 50 1.8 and 28-60 kit lens. Was thinking 20-70 F4 G or the 24-70/28-75 2.8 (Sigma/Tamron) but those are pretty large and heavy.

    • Despite being heavy, the Tamron 35-150mm F2.0-2.8 has become the king of my equipment. It just does almost all scenarios that don't require extreme wide angle or extreme length. It costs less than this lens, is a bit smaller; you lose OSS and a bit of range but gain so much more flexibility.

      • obligatory remark about how its a dust magnet. its iq is very good, it just sucks up more dust than my double telescoping 28 200.

    • I don’t really find the 24-70 GM II that cumbersome, even on my A7CII

    • I've got the 20-70 F4 G and use that for my travels. It is a little big but don't find it too bad weight-wise. I am thinking of getting smaller prime lens to compliment it though.

  • How much would ya pay for 24-70 GMII ?

    • just sold one for 2k the other day. if you are looking to buy then ryda ebay is the cheapest place whenever its in stock, it goes for 2k2ish

      • may I ask the reason for selling it? and do you recommend it?

        • only because I got a new 28 70 f2 for a pretty good deal (not as good as the price error the other day though :( ). the gm ii is really good, absolutely no complaints. the size and look just fits perfectly with alpha (non-C) bodies, very sexy. the 28 70 is a bit too big and disproportionate. the price we pay for a slightly brighter dog picture

      • ~$2k on the second hand market is pretty good for what I think is the best 24-70 2.8 of any mount.

  • I'm bit confused on 24-70GM ii VS Sigma II

    • The GM II is slightly better but quite a bit more expensive so depends how deep your pockets are!

      • I'm more lean towards Sigma, thanks for your input here

        • I don't think you'll regret it! The Sigma looks to be a great lens too!

    • I own the GM II only because I got it for a good price.

Otherwise I’d recommend saving the money and getting the Sigma. Main difference would just be the lightness of the GM II and the tight-smooth toggle.

Assuming slightly better optically but not for 50% more.

      • @southaussiewithcosi how much did you pay for your GM II?

        • Deal stacked quite a bit. Think it worked out to be around $2k for brand new from Sony.

      • Sony has better and more accurate AF and can shoot above 15FPS if you ever use it on a pro body
