Great lenses in this series. Perfect walk around glass. I think that whatever optical imperfections they may have will possibly be considered a classic 'look' in a couple of decades.

I have the 17mm and the slower 24mm. These lenses remind me a lot of classic optics in terms of build/feel, sort of like a contemporary version of the still in production Pentax Limiteds. The Sigma 'iSeries' seems to have a similar design ethos - quite compact but with interesting and in many aspects excellent optics.

The quality belies the 'C' (Contemporary - Sigma's lower end line) designation. Sigma is really producing some great gear these days. Totally the opposite of my impression of the brand 20 or 30 years ago.

Sigma and VIltrox are killing it atm (obviously Viltrox not as HQ as Sigma but much cheaper)

  • This for 500$ new or Sony 20 mm F1.8 G lens for $700 used?

    • Tough choice…if the price is equal the Sony always wins eh?…but used and more expensive? Hmmm…

      • Yeah, that's the thing, Sony is sharper, has F1.8, has better bokeh, has better weather sealing etc. list goes on always favouring Sony, only positive for sigma is the price. Decisions decisions.

I think you have answered your own question

  • Weather seals are not that great if you walk around in dusty fields.

The retail price is hard to justify for a lens that lacks proper weather sealing. Even Sony’s so-called ‘weather-sealed’ lenses aren’t truly dustproof — as evident from the number of used listings showing internal dust. It’s clear that the level of protection offered often falls short of what the marketing suggests.
Here there is no protection ar all.
