  • I believe this is an ATL :)

According to the Zip thread (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/931240), you can pay in full with gift cards instead.

That's a damn good price for a damn good router

  • Great router and these guys ship wuickly

    • They didn't ship quickly last time I bought from them. They issued the tracking ID quickly, but didn't hand the item to the delivery company until a few days later. It was a different item though.

    • Can confirm - already have tracking details, ordered a minute before I posted.

  • WORKS ONLY IF ZIP PAYMENT Selected.

Purchased this for around $500 a few months ago. Great all in one device. Just add APs if you only need WiFi and/or M2 SSDs for Video storage if you are using Unifi cameras.

    • +1

If you don't use unifi cameras would this still be a good option if you want to get into the unifi ecosystem?

      • Absolutely still the best if you don't want to use Unifi cameras + can add a dedicated NVR later.

UI simplicity and community support is the best.

      • +1

This should support 3rd party ONVIF cameras too, but you won't get AI events etc.

        • Oh, that's cool, AI events being pet, human etc detection?

          • @Pixie13: Right, or any other events, like movement detection etc.
Makes it quite a bit less useful, but you may still have the video stream recorded.

          • @Pixie13: Yes, without that, you can get a lot of false positive alerts (trees / plants move too much due to strong wind; insects flying near the camera). The recording requires a m2/NVMe SSD (the SSD tray costs extra). Also, if you have some cameras on continuous recording, the SSD life will gradually drop.

If you're new to the Unifi ecosystem, maybe start with the UCG Ultra + a couple of UAPs if you need wifi. ~$170 street price (got mine $166). If it isn't enough for you, then sell and upgrade…

        • Noob question from someone who is just looking to dip their toes into unify. If I get the UCG Ultra does it replace my internet provider router and then I get UAPs for wifi or does it plug into the router and the UAPs can be in addition to the wifi from my current router?

      • Yes that is what I did. Excellent product.

      • If your internet speed is 1Gb or lower get the UCG ultra

      • UniFi is offering 10Gbps LAN support for their current gen consumer grade controller / router. However, you still need a 10Gbps switch to really use that. While you could technically use all 3 10Gbps ports on this for LAN (because our NBN currently tops out at 2Gbps), the switch backplane itself isn't really capable of doing that.

It comes down to whether you intend to do a 10Gbps LAN setup. An issue you will face with that is all 10Gbps switches from UniFi are expensive. If you go 3rd party switches, you won't be able to run a clean UniFi setup. Also, the ideal WiFi 7 access point setup would connect those access points to 10Gbps LAN ports (which does mean buying XG series APs).

You could stick with 2.5Gbps LAN setup first. If it is a new setup, and you are doing WiFi 7 (even if it is the more cost effective 2.5Gbps ones), you need at least UCG-Max, but given the price difference being so little, might as well go UCG-Fiber. Dream Router 7 is another choice.

    • WORKS ONLY IF ZIP PAYMENT Selected.

      Damn that sucks :(

  • Is this Australian stock? The description mentions "Australia wide warranty" but it's not entirely clear what that means. I've flicked them a message to confirm

    • Surely AU stock as I had the AU power adapter included. Warranty would be 1 yr min but I am not sure if they come with 2 yrs.

  • Hello everyone, I have a Nighthawk R7000 Router that I also have attached x2 Ubiquiti WAPs. My router is getting quite old and I have been considering replacing it. Would people recommend this as an good option? I'm not an expert in this space, but I believe I was considering the UCG-Ultra as it was cheaper, and i'm not sure if the UCG-Fiber is worth it in Australia. Thanks for the post!

You'll be happy with the UCG-Fiber.

I have the UCG Ultra connected to 3 x UAPs and a QNAP NAS and it's been rock solid. Its "limitation" is 1Gbps throughput, so if you have a faster network and/or internet over 1,000Mps then go the Fiber.

    • For home use, if you can utilise the up to 2.5Gb internet connection then fiber is good otherwise get the UCG Ultra at less than half the price. Assume you already have poe injectors for our APs.

I was on the Ubiquiti hype train years before anyone else, and have now bailed out (again, before everyone else).
For the money i find their gear sub par re warrant and support.
I wanted to run some custom DNS stuff ~ 10 years ago. Support was months away… 10 years ago… it never came.

The stuff is OK if you can live within it's limitations.
To me it's just the Apple of the networking world (including zealots who madly defend it).

I think you might find the Flint 3 a good unit.
      https://www.amazon.com.au/GL-iNet-GL-BE9300-High-Speed-Conne…

Grab it when it's on sale for $255

Easily run AdGuard on it out of the box as well (it's pretty much just a case of switching it on).

      • I agree with you on the Apple comment, the hardware works really well when you have a total Ubiquiti ecosystem. The 10GbE WAN is the real difference compared to many other products on the market and due to that I've nearly purchased this unit a couple times but still not convinced. Have you seen the Alta Route10? It's about the only other option in a similar price besides building an OpnSense box.

        Flint 3

        GL iNet
Headquarters: The company was founded in 2010 and is headquartered in Shenzhen, China,

That alone is enough to steer me clear of this product.

    • If your current WAPs are WiFi 6 ones, you will not have much benefit. If they are WiFi 5 ones, you probably should upgrade them if you decide to upgrade to this.

UCG-Fiber is best suited for someone who wants or have 10Gbps backbone LAN.

If you are asking the question, then currently it's not worth it, but this price is really good (for now) so FOMO factor is high.

    • you would get better value out of the Unifi Cloud Gateway Ultra at sub $200.

bought this some while back and pretty darn happy with it

  • Great price.

Got this a while ago and recording 4 cameras with it. zero issues so far.

2.5G PoE port is the cherry on top for a Wifi 7 AP.

Throughput is overkill for any home network segregation scenarios. Even 10Gb.

  • Really happy with mine. Management console is snappy - highly recommend.

  • Whats the consensus between the UCG-Fiber, or the UDR7?

    • I have UCG-Fiber to XG 8 PoE++ switch 10GbE backhaul love it. I’d rather buy from bitsmart just ask Clarence to price match.

      • what WAPs are you running?

        • 3 x U7 Pro XGS

    • +1

UDR7 also has built-in WiFi which the UCG Fiber does not. So you'd need an AP as well

  • +1

Grrr, I literally just got the UCG-Max on the weekend for the same price. Oh wells :)

    • +1

Same! Frustrating but thankfully I'm happy with 2.5G for the time being

      • +1

Yeah agree, it was a great upgrade, because I'm about to start switching over to Protect for home cameras. Would have been nice to have the faster processor for the same price, but honestly I don't think I'd ever get close to maxing out the Max, even with IDS/IPS on with 1000/100 nbn.

        • Max includes the ssd tray and a 512GB SSD. Bootup speed is roughly the same. UCG-Fiber seems snappier when using Protect on a desktop browser. Not much difference on mobile app.

Switched to UCG-Fiber recently. Lower CPU usage chart is nice, but reality is it's under utilised. Max is fine, just wanted to go 10Gbps LAN… Turns out to be quite costly so far. Switches, NICs….

          • @netsurfer: I swapped out my SSD for a 4TB immediately though, so wasn't a big deal for me if it included the SSD or not. Yeah, thanks for that info, good to know not much of a difference for Protect :)

            • @bozzonac: SSD tray is about $50. However, this is a really good price for UCG-Fiber, I paid a lot more for mine. Ubiquiti didn't add more RAM to UCG-Fiber so the RAM usage is just as high as UCG-Max (and support the same number of cameras).

Ubiquiti's IDS/IPS cannot inspect the content of HTTPS traffic so it isn't that useful to be honest.

              • @netsurfer: Saw lots of good 3D printable trays tbh. But either way, I am happy with my UCG-Max, albeit having buyers remorse for the UCG-Fiber being the same price two days later haha.

  • Dayum been hanging out for one of these. Don't really want to sign up to the loan sharks though. Hopefully we get something over the holiday periods coming up.

    Thanks OP

  • Unify express 7 is less and has wifi. Is this a much better deal?

    • Absolutely… Has 5x 2.5 ports a 10g port and 2x SFP+ ports. The express is average from all reports. But what are you using it for?

    • The Express is absolutely fine if you're sticking to a 1Gb (or less) NBN plan.

Even if the rest of your network is 10Gb or 2.5Gb, you only really need your router to be able to operate at the speed of your internet connection.
