I believe the Jbhifi deal was $697 for 9 Pro XL variant.
and it was 256GB! ðŸ˜
And I didn't manage to get one ðŸ˜
I woke up late that day. Still kickin' myself
Not a good deal
Can I get a bundle deal? this phone plus 2 years of shit customer service?
No. You can not get it as a bundle.
Shit customer service is a special built in feature of Telstra.
Just curious how come double the storage costs extra $149? I was thinking it costs a lot less than then when for example looking at sd card and stuff?
Sd cards are slower..
And i notice a lot of apps dont let me move thrm to sd… At leastcon my moto
Because thats where they make their money, it costs them another like $20 to go from 128-256gb and then profit $130
Do you live under a rock?
Have you ever shopped for Apple devices?
They started this bs trend and tricked all the iSheep.
With their mini desktop, it's cheaper to buy two 256gbs than one 1tb. That's how much they rip you off.
Telstra used to beat JB and HN but not this round.
R U OK?
It's called the REFRESH button.
Any benefit in performance if trading in a Galaxy 24? Photo quality is better on the pixel, isn't it?
Ehhh. It's not as impressive as it used to and pixel os is becoming really trash imo.
yeah im with you on that, it has the at a glance that you can't remove, takes up 30% of the home screen..not to mention you can't even literally hold down an icon and change it individually..
Nova Launcher + SwiftKey has fixed the experience for me. I have been using it since pixel 7
@Mortgagetightass: Really? I'm currently using it (prime) with no issues and there was an update last week. Please explain.
@MS Paint: Basically development of Nova after getting acquired has ceased, with the original devs no longer working on it. The recent update was to update its API targets for the Play Store in order to stay on there.
https://9to5google.com/2025/09/08/nova-launcher-shutting-dow…
If it ain't broke… but it doesn't look like you'll be getting new features or potential bug fixes.
@The-Real Team Doge: Dang. As long as it remains stable in its current state for the next few years then I'll be happy.
@The-Real Team Doge: No wonder there haven't been updates. I've been using it since forever, so that I have the same experience across phones.
@flickr: do people still Root android? or is that not a thing any more? because you can flash custom roms easy on a pixel because it stock android.
@flickr: custom roms are different think of it as installing an entire new OS or variation of OS, with admin privilages. eg say you wanted to run the samsung phone verisons of Android you could install the full thing on your pixel.
here are some of the other advantages
Performance Boost: Unlock enhanced performance by optimizing settings and removing device-slowing bloatware.
Battery Optimization: Fine-tune power-saving settings and remove resource-intensive background processes for extended battery life.
Processor Control: Adjust processor speed for power saving or enhanced performance, although it may affect battery life and device temperature.
App Management: Easily remove pre-installed apps, hide unwanted ones, and access unauthorized apps not available in official stores.
Customization: Fully customize themes, graphics, and interface elements for a personalized user experience.
Functional Modifications: Escape manufacturer presets by using custom firmware to modify device functionality.
Ad Blocking: Block ads across browsers and apps to enhance browsing speed and experience.
Operating System Tweaks: Make changes, such as installing custom ROMs to improve functionality and tailor the device to specific preferences.
because you have access to the root directory you can change anything on the phone including the boot image even :D
Lawnchair (latest beta) + smartspacer will solve most problems there
pixel os is becoming really trash imo.
It's still better than One UI.
I agree that the Pixel launcher (not the entire OS) is crap, but Lawnchair improves that greatly.
Over the weekend I took some photos on my Pixel 7 while my brother shot some on his S24. He reluctantly agreed that the Pixel ones were better. I imagine that the P9P is not any worse than a P7
Partner got the Pixel 9 Pro XL, I'm on Pixel 7 Pro.
I'm taking better photos with her phone than with mine. I'm still taking better photos with mine than she is with hers. So: yes, cameras are better on the 9 Pro XL (assuming same camera in 9 Pro?). But difference is small enough that the camera operator makes more of a difference than the hardware.
Maybe the difference is because you take photos of her, while she's taking photos of you.
@crentist: Nah, after almost 10 years we've got enough photos of each other. These days most photos are of meals, plants and holiday destinations…
@team teri: Yeah. I have found that the honeymoon lasts only 18 months. Sort of like a low quality eneloop. :)
I had the S24 for less than six months before upgrading to the Pixel 9 Pro from last week’s JB deal, and honestly, the photo quality is lightyears better. The S24’s fine, but its camera lets it down. The 9 Pro just feels more premium in the hand too.
Thanks
The bloatware on the S24 ultra made me sell it…
Shame there isnt a deal on the Pro XL
waiting for XL too
Waiting for Ultra Pro XL Plus Air
I’m looking to piggy back off someone’s Telstra plan to get the phone on a 36 month plan. Would the phone be unlocked (currently w/ Belong atm)? And would piggybacking off someone’s Telstra plan have any implications for the account holder and their plans?
36 month contract in my name? Sure pm me.
lol what
Is there a reason why you can't use your own Telstra ID (or sign up for one - I'm assuming this is possible?) and then do what you need to do yourself?
Telstra had a sale for $699 in May.
But this deal is a bit expensive tbh. If telstra set the discounted price to $499 for 128gb & $579 for 256gb for pixel 9 pro it would be ok deal.
I would wait for a deal for pixel 10 pro later this year.
I just feel like pixel phones made by Google are experimental devices tbh. Mid range specs at best & pricing as a expensive flagship. Quality control is a hit and miss for pixels. Some users have great experiences while some never return to pixel devices and opt for Samsung & Apple phones.
The move to TSMC for the tensor g5 didn't improve much compared to Samsung made tensor g4. Battery, thermals not impressive improvement over pixel 9 series.
Google had several years to improve their pixel lineup to be on par with Apple & Samsung but still not up to scratch with hardware & software. The only pro feature of pixel phones is the computational photography. But the other manufacturers are catching up or surpassed pixel camera quality.
If only google ditched tensor & used Qualcomm Snapdragon chips. Samsung uses Snapdragon soc and can provide 7 years OS & security. Why can't google do that as well?
Pixels that used Snapdragon soc had very good camera quality. From pixel 1 to 5 had a better colour representation compared to pixel 6 to 10 series. The ISP has changed somehow & I prefer the picture quality from my pixel 5.
Thank you for this write up
ty for the genuine remark
Pixel telephoto photos are fookin great though. Always get compliments on those
Sorry guys, slightly unrelated. What does ATL mean? Seeing it in a few places and my google foo it failing me.
all time low haha
My god, thank you. I was thinking like "Absolutely the lowest" close enough i guess haha
Definition of ATL has been updated to:
Apocalypse-Tier Liquidation
Alternatively, it can mean Almost Theft Level
You're talking about the song right? ;)
omg i was hoping someone would take the hint XDDD
Nah. It's All Time Loss or going Above The Line or even Approaches To Learning for some
Time to hand down your OZB badge mate. This terms has been used so regularly.
you badgeholders are so cringe
NO SOUP FOR YOU! :)
on ozb it's all time low
outside of ozb it refers to the city of atlanta
I think VPN when you say that
Atlanta Shawty.
Can't justify going bigger, myself.
I score the 9 Pro XL for 697, but wanted the non XL…
Carrier locked to Telstra? I've yet to have a Telstra phone which isn't.
Their Pixel 7's weren't.
I have both pixel 7 and 9 pro xl but some pictures are definitely better with pixel 7 and 9 pro xl has some photos a bit orange.
Serious question - What's stopping me from buying the Pixel 7 ($250) with a Telstra plan today and trading it in tomorrow for the $600 credit?
Well really it should be $745 credit.. because the Pixel 7 is worth that without the bonus. As long as you're aware it's account credit and not money in your hand..
Where on earth do you get a $600 credit for Pixel 7?
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/930338
I haven't tried it myself, keep in mind you need to be on a post paid plan to trade in with them
I can see only $145 credit… Am I doing something wrong?
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/930338
I haven't tried it myself, keep in mind you need to be on a post paid plan to trade in with them
"You can trade-in ANY phone, tablet or smartwatch for the new pixel 9 pro" according to Telstra live chat. As long as it has no contract and no damage. So it's probably better to trade in an old device that you have at home rather than buying new then trading in.
Don't think you can trade Pixel 2 XL to get the credit.
What can the credit be utilised for? Towards 9 Pro possible?
Yes
@lynxfist please explain the part about ANY phone, I have LG V30, or Samsung Note 2 lying around,..will they accept this as well?
as far as I'm aware, the trade in phone has to be whatever phones listed on Telstra website?
also re your comment below "extra $70 for the first month of the postpaid plan"
this postpaid can be cancelled right after we receive the $600 credit right?
Thank you in advance.
I should clarify, the 'any phone' comment was based on what Telstra live chat advised me. In reality I don't think it can be any phone, I'd hazard a guess that if your phone doesn't show in the trade-in estimator then it isn't eligible for trade in.
And yes after the $600 credit is received the plan can be cancelled.
Would be the best deal if trade-in can be done for non postpaid account holders, Pixel 7 256 to Pixel 9 pro 256 under $300
Does having a Boost account get you a Telstra ID?
Yes, but doesn't count as a post-paid plan for trade-in purposes.
Average deal need to wait for pixel 10 instead
You'd pick a Pixel 10 over a Pixel 9 Pro?
Bro only knows how to count, not read specs.
The only thing holding me back is Pixels’ low-frequency PWM.
Has anyone managed to purchase this outright and do the trade-in to get an extra $600 off?
I've purchased on repayments and sent the trade in. I've received the credit for the value of the phone but I'm still waiting for the bonus $600 credit, which may take up to 30 days according to the website.
I didn't purchase it outright because I wasn't sure if they would refund the bonus credit to me. I thought it would be better to let the bonus credit be applied when I pay out the device and then I will just pay the remaining amount.
I was on support chat last night. The person told me when you do the trade in it gives you the option to select the $600 credit to go to your nominated bank account or on as a credit card refund. Was this an option anywhere when you did it?. They mentioned it ls after they receive the phone, but can take up til the 3rd Monthly bill. Even though there would be no monthly bills if purchased outright. Did you get a credit to your telstra account for your phone trade in or was it actual cash transferred back to your bank account?
Pixel 9 pro works out to be only $199 with the $750 off and $600 bonus trade in.
And then depending the value of the tradein phone might even be free.
They did also say I could go in store and get them to setup the postpaid plan, and purchase the phone with the tradein all at the same time. But yeah, would still have to wait for the credit refund.
When I did the trade in it didn't give me an option to nominate a bank account or credit card, it said that the trade in credit and bonus credit would be added to my Telstra account. For the phone trade in, I received the amount within minutes of dropping the phone off at the post office and I received it as a credit to my Telstra account.
I opted for the Pixel 9 pro as you suggested it would end up being close to $200 after the bonus credit, keeping in mind that there will be an extra $70 for the first month of the postpaid plan as a postpaid plan is required to get this deal.
@lynxfist: When you did the trade in, was it specifically mentioned about bonus credit? I tried trade in but it did not show anything about bonus credit.
@Shanky: No it didn't mention the $600 bonus credit during the trade in process but it did say that any bonus credit as part of a promotion would be automatically applied. I asked live chat about it and they said it wouldn't be mentioned specifically but it will be applied given I have purchased a Pixel 9 pro.
A good deal, even tho not as good as the $697 JB DEAL! But it looks like it needs to sign up with Telstra or you have already with them. Thanks OP
