  • is it better to get the MR4? they are also cheaper?

MR3 are smaller, have smaller driver (less bass), and less powerful, but supposedly have cleaner sound. Also this have Bluetooth, unlike MR4.
As I understand, 3 and 4 refer to the size of the driver, not product generation.

      • oic thanks!

Recently got the MR3 over the 4s. Found that I've been using the bluetooth option a lot more than I expected. Really nice to ge able to connect my phone and blast tunes that way.

Also, mR3 power cord is detachable while the MR4s are not - just something to think about for future repairability.

    FYI - MR4 $99 at centrecom.

    • $99 for white only not black.
I've just picked up the MR4's in black from Centrecom on Saturday. I had a credit note from the worth $140 from a warranty repair / refund and they adjusted the MR4 price without me paying the $10 difference - yay.
Happy with the performance of the MR4 but my desk would've benefitted from the MR3 size tbh.

      • Even the MR3 are too big for a desk in my opinion. M60 are the right size for a desk. Better sound and better connectivity too. Unfortunately the price has gone up, although still $199 at Kogan.

consider recycling old bookshelf speakers with a cheap amp board (~$10) + 12V 5A power supply (~$10)

    amp

    psu

if you can find speakers from old 3 piece stereo system on verge collection you will have a comparable stereo system for under $20 after ali codes/cashback

    • Holy heck, thank you for that.I didn't know such a thing existed. I have some amazing speakers from 30-odd years ago that sound great still so I'm gonna grab this board.

    • I've been running one of these setups for a while now. Thinking I may switch to a sound bar if I can find one that's compact enough as my speakers are just a little too large for the computer desk and I need to place them behind the screens.

      • speaker stands? or a simple ikea shelf may sort you out?

        • +1

Yeah, could do. I plan to return the speakers back to the lounge when I get a new AVR. So I could opt for something smaller and then a monitor stand/shelf might be helpful anyway as one of the monitors is not height adjustable and should sit a bit higher. Thanks for the idea!

  • Love my MR4s in white

  • hmm… i just impulse bought a 5.1 samsung soundbar for 500. would these be a better suit for mix of tv/desktop use case? desktop and lounge will basically be located in one area so i want to keep setup as minimal as possible and not have separate audio setup for computer and tv.

    • very different system imo, these are just 2.0 basically

  • both colours are $149 at PC Case Gear

PC Case Gear is an old favourite pc shop of mine. As is this website:

(is Static Ice well known/used a lot here?)
