$10 credit for both referrer and referee for mobile plan.
The referrer must be an UNLIMITED mobile plan customer with auto-renewal turned on. Referee must sign up to an UNLIMITED mobile plan or AS YOU GO and activate the service. Referee needs to provide referrer with their email address.
Yes.
Am in the same situation here, currently using a S21 ultra and am considering if I should get this or not. This plus a plan just tips it over 300 bucks for trs though….
The Pixel 7 was introduced in 2022, which seems one year newer than the S21.
@PukeyLuke: Savy-buyers research the features that is most-important to them: buyers' preferences are unique & different, eg I value Micro-SD, big-battery & bang-for-$…but you're likely to value something-else.
NoteBookCheck allows you to customise-phone-comparison: say @ 'Battery Life'-> https://ibb.co/xSrtp3W0, https://www.notebookcheck.net/Samsung-Galaxy-S21-Ultra-Smart…
Bias & paid reviews are everywhere: read-widely…give consideration to forum-comments also. It's only when you owned the phone for a few months that you realise the effectiveness of your homework 😇😭
I changed from a s23 to pixel 7 and happy - camera mainly. Lacks AI features but I dont use them. Battery life similar. Photos better on P7
Minus the bloatware.
odd switch to a older phone there
Plan doesn't count for trs. Plan is a service, not an item. No refund for services.
FYI - you can't claim the GST portion of the phone plan for TRS, just the physical phone.
Interested in how this works. So you can use phone invoice plus plan invoice together as that's $300 plus and then claim GST but only on the $299?
@nomadspartan: Thank you. In the app then, would you add the amount for the sim under the same "phone" category or use "other" and describe as prepaid sim?
@csmacd: I haven’t done it in awhileso I can’t remember the different categories, but I would do it in such a way where I wouldn’t claim the GST on the mobile Service portion of the invoice. This is to just avoid the risk that the GST claim would get rejected at the TRS office in the airport… although this would be unlikely considering the relative lack of tax knowledge by the people staffing the TRS.
It depends on when you plan to use it. A year later, maybe an 8 pro will be at the same price.
then a year later 9 pro will be at the same price.
then the year after that 10 pro will be at the same price.
And so on, and so on…
Seem like technology keeps improving with features. The features of a high-end phone of PRIOR-year will become the the features of a midrange phone of CURRENT-year, ballpark-> https://nanoreview.net/en/phone-compare/motorola-edge-50-fus…
Moto-Edge 50 FUSION &/or NEO will be on clearance soon ~$300.
Many people likely to find it hard to use their new-phone as MAIN-phone in the 4th year of ownership?
This is a case where waiting for 8 is worth it. The Pixel 7 has about one and a half year left of security updates, Pixel 8 has a longer security cycle, it will still have two and a half years at the same time next year. A much better deal as you can safely have it for longer.
keep thinking while its gone
damn, that was quick lmao
Don’t be FOMO, as you could save 100% on this.
you're right, but looking for something right now, similar deals.. but gone
Price so low and thinking of HODLing? WTF?
Oos
Oh well, party's over :(
It's back!
Andddddddddd it's gone!
It's back!
It's back!
Awesome first post, OP!
8 Pro at $649.
Keep the deals coming, at this rate 10 Pro with be $500 next week.
Let's hope so! I'm keep to get back into Pixel and the 10 Pro looks appealing.
10 Pro Fold? 😁
That would be a perfect upgrade for my beaten up pixel 7. Pitty it's already gone.
It's back!
I really do need a 256gb device. I'm an idot for not getting the pixel 9 xl 256 on jb.
Ah that deal will be remembered fondly.
@Naigrabzo: I like how i was negged for mentioning it. I'll take that as someone else is sad about missing out, too. Either that or they are an amaysim spy!
Would've been keen to try this out since the Spec Sheet is very handy for a 3yo device. Might've been fun to try out GrapheneOS on it as a private backup phone
But os updates have ended, only security updates now until October 2027
Thats incorrect. OS updates extended until 2027
only if there's new OS after this year.
Why wouldn't there be?
Back in-stock for me.
thanks for the headsup pengu!
Thanks!
Thanks OP.. ordered one. Great deal.
Thank you, was waiting for a good deal to come up on a Pixel Pro. Missed out on the 9 Pro price error but this seems like a better option as I'm still using a 512GB Pixel 7 Pro and I could use a spare for work.
Update, courier delivered yesterday (StarTrack) phone arrived brand new in sealed box. No issues, other than battery being flat which was expected. Great phone for $311.
What does it say in the Battery Health section? Hope it's not deteriorated enough to say needs replacement.
battery health is 100%. No issues
@thom: @@thom @@Bargainizer Could you tell me how to find the battery health please? I've looked in the Settings > Battery Health section but cannot see anything that tells me the actual health, only links to articles about battery care.
@sam buster: You are at the right setting page, Pixel phones unlike Apple won't say the exact percentage, however do say "Battery capacity may be reduced" when the actual health is below a threshold (80% like apple I suppose).
If it doesn't say anything, then battery health is good.
@Bargainizer: Thanks, but in the linked articles from that page, it says the Good / Reduced message is only available on models 8a and newer. (I have fully updated the phone).
A flaw with not telling me exact capacity is that if it is 82% that isn't really OK for a new phone.
@sam buster: I'm using a pixel 7 pro since launch and this is what my phone shows.
https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/115601/125368/screensh…
I've purchased as new 7 pro from this deal, due to be delivered today, will sell the current one to Cex and should pretty much be even. Official Google battery replacement is $199, not worth it.
@Bargainizer: Thanks for sharing. If the wording of that notification is accurate, it may not actually be measuring the battery itself, instead going by the charge cycle count, and saying that "as the intended cycle count has been exceeded your battery MAY not be great" But then again it may be ok.
One of the articles linked on that screen says:
Pixel 3 through Pixel * Pro & Fold
Should retain up to 80% capacity for about 800 charge cycles, after which battery replacement is recommended.
Earlier in the article it states, "When charged as recommended…"
Hopefully, @thom will share their knowledge.
@sam buster: Yes, looks like it. Nonetheless, if you were to trade in the phone for a trade in bonuses, for say a deal like the one from Telstra, it may come back as 0 value. One of the criteria to enter when sending in phone for trade in is that the Battery Health page says that it's Normal and not needing replacement.
Pixel 3 through Pixel * Pro & Fold
That should be:
"Pixel 3 through Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel Fold"
Can you keep the Amaysim plan for 28 days only then churn?
Yes, just turn off auto recharge once your account is set up.
this is by far a great device. battery life is great, even for this age and still has a couple more years of support to go.
camera is spot on as well.
Just ordered. Thanks!
New customers must add Plan from $30/28 days
Alternative for those who like to live dangerously and want to save $18.
Requires 2 separate purchases so there is always a chance the phone could sell out and you wasted $12.
Proceed at your own discretion.
Thanks mate. Just did this and saved $18. You are a legend
This works, thanx mate.
Followed the process, saved 18$ =) thanks mate.
perfect mate.. saved 18$ thanks
thank you so much.
i have the p7 from telstra but too tempted by this lol.
might give the p7 to a fam member since their moto g54 battery is dying
To just clarify the process further, buy the SIM as per step 1 (in HomeAlone's post above) for $12
2. Now go to this bargain link at the top and then select "Use an existing amaysim plan" and then login and check out, you'll be charged $299.00
You do run the risk of phone selling out and you ending up with a useless sim, if you do it this way.
This works. Thanks, mate.
Thanks @HomeAlone.
Worked for me, cheers mate
Wow, this is the same price as it costs to get my battery replaced in my P7P….
great price if you dont mind the curved display
Oh dear this kills it for me, dropped my phone 3m onto concrete steps the other day with a case on and not even a scratch, curved screen would surely have smashed
If I hadn't bought a Moto G05 for my dad yesterday, I would have paid the extra for this.
Wish I waited for this instead of buying the pixel 7 from Telstra 🥹
Trade off is the storage vs the macro camera and additional battery life
Otherwise no big difference. Meh
Isn't telephoto lens useful for the 5x optical zoom
Yes, optical zoom means the lens actually moves and you are capturing what the lens is seeing.
Digital zoom (as with the fixed lens in most phone cameras) just crops the centre of the image! Depending on your camera app it may then resample and upscale the image - but this is software processing, it's not what the lens has actually captured.
Yes, optical zoom means the lens actually moves and you are capturing what the lens is seeing.
Just to clarify, that isn't correct on phones typically. They dont actually have a moving zoom, just multiple cameras that cover that range. So if a phone had a 20mm (equiv) lens and a 100mm telephoto they call that 5x zoom. Everything between 20mm and 99mm is just the 20mm cropped then it switches to the 100mm and crops to go further from there.
@Duff5000: Is it really?
I feel a bit duped, now.
I suppose I'll have to figure out the optical zoom lengths to avoid the cropping.
Is it really?
Yep. Never wondered why it has multiple lenses not just one zoom lens? Here are the specs for the 7 pro.
50 MP, f/1.9, 25mm (wide), 1/1.31", 1.2µm, dual pixel PDAF, OIS
48 MP, f/3.5, 120mm (periscope telephoto), 1/2.55", 0.7µm, dual pixel PDAF, OIS, 5x optical zoom
So a ~25mm equiv wide lens and ~120mm tele.
The actual focal lengths are:
6.81mm (23.4mm equiv)
19.0mm (117mm equiv)
Never wondered why it has multiple lenses not just one zoom lens?
I didn't need to wonder, I know exactly why there are separate lenses for features such as macro and widescreen - it is just the same as if you have an SLR camera, you would use a different lens to achieve those things.
Compact cameras are typically advertised as "5x optical zoom, 10x digital zoom" for example, the zoom is infinitely variable between no magnification and the specified amount of magnification.
Conversely, binoculars do not have variable zoom, thus are sold as 8x magnification or 10x etc -
So to me, this isn't 5x optical zoom, it's a fixed focal length at 5x magnification.
As I said, I feel a bit duped now.
I had just bought the Pixel 7, but when I read that this has the 5x Optical Zoom I bought this too not realising until it was pointed out above how "Optical Zoom" is misused in phone marketing - similar to how HD was twisted in TV marketing 20 years ago.
I'm not sure how useful fixed 5x magnification really is - 2x or 2.5x would suit my (and I think most people's) needs much better. How often do you want to take a photo of something that's really quite distant? So rarely that I would pack a proper camera for the occasion.
Bigger and better screen in addition to 4gb extra ram too
I think the larger battery is effectively negated by the "superior" display.
Ditto! I thought all the Pros had gone.
But the P7 does have double the storage.
Was going to say the same but storage is the key trade off here imo… glad I got the Telstra deal since I need 256GB. Maybe I'll get rid of the 7 if magically a 7 Pro 256GB deal exists for $300. Who knows.
I have a 6a, and it's got a few issues with reception and loudspeaker, but I still can't see any reason to upgrade to this.
Maybe if it was smaller..the 6a is too big as it is for me
One of the disappointments for me with the P7 is the loudspeaker- it sounds horribly tinny and distorted on calls if you have to turn it up.
That's a shame.
Seems to be a common formula for new phones these days. You upgrade to solve the 3 problems your current phone as, and the new phone does that, but then it creates 3 completely different issues that you don't discover for several months.
I'm on a Samsung Galaxy S9… Really hard to 'move on' as there's nothing wrong with it
Feel the same about my Note10+. Take care of the battery and a flagship phone stays a fantastic device. The iterative improvements, even over 6 years now, don't make a significantly better phone. At least when I do upgrade, I'll be more likely to appreciate the jump.
I am currently using this phone. The battery life is mediocre at the best, does not even last a whole day with average use.
Should I buy it HOLD it for later? Already got a personal phone. Should I have a backup phone?
