      Is Apple 200 bucks?

      • +17

200 bucks could get you just a Apple Pencil, BYO tablet haha :P

        • -1

you can make a cheap pixel tablet with the right rom, for those that like pure android

          • @kungfuman: What would be the benefit? It seems to me that OneUI is pretty close to stock now, arguably with some improvements even. No real bloat as far as I can tell?

            • -1

@Maker1: pure android or stock android is what android is suppose to be out of the box.

              • @kungfuman: Yes I know that, but most Android makers now just use a close-to-stock skin and you can uninstall Samsung apps if you don't want them. So I'm wondering what benefit is given to the user experience by changing the ROM?

          • @kungfuman: Unlocking bootloader on Samsung devices trips the Knox 'hardware fuse', and you cannot reset the 'fuse' again, and it may have problems with attestation and/or Wallet apps aftwrwards.

Still, Samsung tablets are good value when paired with specific ROMs.

        • -8

No but Samsung devices are worth $200 and nothing more, but still 4GB ram, rubbish. Enjoy your 1 tab browsing.

          • +5

@BatmanAU: Why you sound like you havent taken your tablet today

            • @djmm: No, I just wanted to see what it feels like to be a Samsung hater, like all the Apple haters on here.. I actually feel a bit stupid, so I guess im just not one of those people.

              • +1

@BatmanAU: My problem isn't the hate, but there was no logical reasoning and constructive arguments made. Tablet offered is $200, can't expect much. Comparing it to Apple is moot point unless you can consider a refurbished ipad mini

          • +2

@BatmanAU: Agree 4GB is shit almost entering 2026. Apple is more optimised for less ram compared to Androids. Bloatware from scamsung itself would take most of it along with the OS. So 6GB minimum. But this price 216 is too good even for 4GB. Good for old folks who want to read news or consume media.

But the downside is no more OS updates as its 2 years old and in such case, one can spend a little more and get some Lenovo tab from Chinese vendors.

          • -8

@BatmanAU: A lot of butthurt Android users ignoring facts, 4Gb is rubbish and the fact the OP said even Apple wouldn't stoop that low is not siding with any particular cult, its just facts

            • -3

@WhiteEvo6: I guess facts dont ring true to some, hence all the neg votes, but hey some people just love to hate!

              • @BatmanAU: "Wrong facts" as you call them are still wrong, but live the dream

yes 8 negative votes from a site used by hundreds, how will I ever recover from this

          • @BatmanAU: back in your cave batman.

    • +3

this is a good tablet if you want to root the device for custom roms you could put stock verison of android on it like the pixels have if you wanted to no issues.

      https://xdaforums.com/t/rom-unofficial-13-pixel-experience-p…

      • That seems like its a qualcomm stuff, this is exynos, would it still work?

      • Can see info for older versions of the S6 Lite, but not getting the impression this 2024 (SM-P620) model is well-supported yet (mainly interested in /e/OS here but open to other options). Doesn't help when Samsung keeps recycling the same product name :-/

  • TFT, yuck! Only Samsung can get away with TFT screens.

    • +4

TFT is just a generic name for modern LCDs.
IPS, VA, and TN are all kinds of TFT display.
Presumably Samsung specced it like that so they can swap out the screen for a cheaper part when available without having to create a new product SKU
      Edit: found this
This review shows the viewing angles so at least this review unit is not an TN. But that backlight bleed looks terrible.

  • there is actually alot support for the homebrew stuff on the s6 lite.

    • +2

I'm thinking one for a HA Dashboard and mounting it to the wall.

    • -2

The majority of buyers of this won't bother with homebrew, 99.9% of buyers wouldn't even be aware of homebrew

Parents buying for kids etc are going to be disappointed with the experience on a 4Gb tablet for school/work

Its E-trash really, 4Gb has always been low for Android

      • What's homebrew? Some sort of custom ROM for tablet? Couldn't find anything from Google.

  • +5

    RAM Size 4 GB
    stop reading

M11 for 249 on Amazon probably better value. 8gb and fhd.

    • I had the Lenovo M11. Just awfully slow and barely usable. My use case was literally only using YouTube and I still had to return it.

    • Nice !👍

  • +3

Lenovo Xiaoxin on Ali for under 200 is a banger if you're ok with the steps to change language and purge the crap. 12.9 for Dad, 11 for toddler. Was just over 200 by the time you get a folio cover stand.

    • yeah agree. I am looking for the 12.9.
      Dd you custom ROM?

      • There is no 12.9in

        • Ugh. Dammit. Most would be happy with 12inch also. ;)

          • +1

@Naigrabzo: 12.7, close enough. Regularly around 250 on Ali

      • No, get the china model not intl rom.

    • You don’t happen to have a link? Looking for a table for my dad. I think a bigger screen would be good.

      • The deal is posted here every few weeks, shouldn't be hard to find.
Will be 11.11 sale again tomorrow, expect 250 or less.
The model will be somthing like: lenovo xiaoxin pad pro 12.7. you will need to prep it for them, delete every app you can, change language, delete bloatware, install play store and generic apps.

How does this tablet fare for Home Assistant purposes?

    • Thats what I am thinking. Setting it up as a HA Dashboard.

  • +1

peeps, please note that once you ROM your device, dont expect teh S pen to work as it did with the original samsung rom, it will just be a generic stylus.

    • what does that mean in practice?

      • the pressure sensitivity as well as other features will not work. essentially just like using the finger.

  • Is there anything available for $200 with more Ram, even if the screen size is smaller?

  • I'm not gonna lie. I stopped reading after seeing…

    RAM Size 4 GB
    Connectivity USB 2.0

  • 4GB… Samsung you can do better.

    • +1

      Samsung: You can pay more.

  • +1

Can anyone confirm it has GPS? It states in the specs it does have, but I dont want it if it doesnt.

    • Acoording gsmarena only cell version has gps. Lenovo Xiaoxin Pad 11 2025 Tab 128GB has gps better choice and cheaper

  • +1

I have the 2021 Samsung S6-lite and it is reasonable for this price even with the limited RAM and slow processor.

Works fine for streaming, browsing and light gaming. Security updates are pretty regular.

    • I use my S6 Lite 2022 purely for YouTube in the kitchen and running the HA app in the background so the tablet can turn on automatically as I enter the kitchen. Works perfectly for that with 4GB RAM.

  • Makes you realise the Apple Tax
