I think 4GB is perfectly reasonable for a sub $100 phone. Brilliant value for what it is.

      • +10

It is reasonable but some OzBargainers think a phone is unusable without 8GB RAM 😂

        • +7

          Unusable without 8GB RAM

        • +17

          Just buy two…

          • +10

@subydooby: Tape them together and have a dual screen folding phone with crash redundancy

            • +6

@Jackson: you can even call yourself for a chat if you feel lonely.

    • -1

Definitely better options for a bit more (like ~$135) for more than 4 GB

I have a Moto G31 and it's fine, and it looks like this is a slight upgrade. Only thing about it which doesn't seem great is the camera, but I don't use it much, and it's still not terrible.

Main reason I'm stuck with motorola for life is the karate chop torch is impossible to live without after having it, I use it multiple times a night.

    • +3

My boy, with cheap phones like these, camera isn't even something one would consider

    • +4

There are various apps you can use to karate chop your way to illumination.

      • +3

Any recommendations? I miss that feature from Motorola and I haven't had one for years

    • +1

Should clarify the only thing which doesn't seem great about mine* is the camera, not sure about this other phone.

    • +5

Oh God karate chop torch for life.

I switched to a pixel, which has a double tap mechanic in lieu of the chop. Sadly, this is so sensitive I'll randomly find the torch on randomly so I've had to disable it before someone merks me at the park or pub thinking I'm doing flash photography.

      • +1

You can do this on iPhone too under accessibility. It's inconsistent and yes turn on unintentionally in the pocket sometimes. I have 2 taps for torch and 3 for camera.

    • What is a karate chop torch btw?

      • +1

A gesture to turn on/off the flashlight.

      • +3

Shake the phone slightly side to side to turn the torch on/off. So unbelievably useful when getting up at night, or when using keys at night, or walking in the dark and needing to check the path in front of you for a split second, etc, rather than unlocking the phone and going into menus to turn on the torch.

        • +4

Yes I use the chop chop light every day on my G75.

The wiggle wiggle for camera is also a great feature that I use heaps.

  • -1

The uni soc proabbly sucks compare to g54 aye

    • Aye ya salty pirate, to be sure.

    • Nope exactly the same.

  • Probably could be a great emulation device

    • emulating what XD

      • +13

        emulating a real phone

        • +2

          😂

      • Can't say, mods will ban me

        • no ?

like what maybe it can do ps1 games at most

  • where does it say it's unlocked?

    • Its an outright handset, not prepaid

      • +1

yeah i would take the word 'outright' as fully paid for, and the word 'locked' does not appear anywhere. would be a hassle to argue with them to unlock it if necessary though.

      • Outright handset doesn't imply unlocked. It just means what it means - just the phone. Could be a locked phone.

        • Technically under consumer law they have to declare clearly on the product page if it's locked, or requires a fee to be unlocked. But best to know in advance.

  • That's a very nice deal, like if someone was looking for an affordable phone that'd have to be as good as you can get for that price. Surprised it's that cheap actually.

    • +1

Yep, great as a backup when travelling in case your actual phone gets nicked (logged into password manager etc), great to use as a remote control with various camera apps etc. You could even make it pay for itself by using a cheap prepaid sim and 'referring yourself' for all sorts of bonus credit with eg uber, doordash, jb perks, anything that requires a mobile number for signup.

      • Yeah would definitely make a great backup phone / remote control!

    • No IR blaster for remote control though

      • bruh 😂

i had a f3 and f1 that had ir blaster.

none of my tvs even support it so it's pointless

      • As in usb / wifi / bt

A word of (semi) waning on the moto g phones.

I loved them and have bought heaps, I kept replacing the family phones with them when the screen cracked (due to our own carelessness. )

Then I first got my wife an s22. Hasn't cracked.

Kid one of the budget Samsung's, again no cracked screen.

To be fair it's our own clumsiness, but they do seem to break more than these Samsung's.

    • Samsungs base S-series are definitely better lol, but few would be going out of their way to get them from say FB marketplace.

    • sounds like you just need a decent case and maybe a screen protector. but yeah flagship phones def have better resistance to shattering and cracking. However what they don't tell you is that crack-resistance comes with less scratch-resistance. i found out the hard way a while ago and now always use a screen protector.

    • +1

Solid build is one of the reasons why I stick with the Samsung S series. I usually am content with an older generation S series phone (for example, S22 at the moment) and as soon as it's near the end of update support (which I think it is now), move on to the next one (usually maintaining myself 3 generations behind to buy second hand for cheap in true ozbargain, tightarse style). Honestly, I don't feel like I'm missing out much as I usually buy these about $800 cheaper, so can't really complain (can spend that money elsewhere LOL)

    • Cases with screen ridges exist.

      Screen protectors exist.

If your phone screen cracked despite having taken these precautions, then it's unlikely brand would have made any difference.

    • as a follow up, yes, we use screen protectors, yes we use cases.

used the one that came with the phone for a while, but these were bad, so also bought after market, I think the issue is there are more options for the samsungs, and better designed, so easier to get a good one.

So as per above, our own fault for dropping them, even when dropping the samsung with similar conditions, the samsungs seem ok, touch wood.

i am not insulting you or your ability to choose, just stating my observations.

  • +1

    Does it call 000?

    • Maybe not on Optus….

  • Wow, really good find. SoC is comparable to Google Tensor G3.

    • +2

      wtf really

      • -1

Actually that was just 3DMark benchmark. Sorry, should have said similar to Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 instead.

        • that's surprising

  • My in law has been using our old Note 5 just for phone calls till this stupid optus 000 incident, now amaysim keeps emailing saying phone will be block by end of this month, urging us to change new phone asap, this deal comes at the right time !!!

  • How do we know if it is unlocked please :)

    • +3

Put a Telstra or Voda SIM in the slot.

  • +8

For me, the headphone jack and expandable storage make this more of a real phone than many flagships

    • I totally agree with you.

  • +2

    FHD+ 120hz screen (iPhone 16e is still only 60hz), 5000mah battery, chip isn't terrible… 8gb ram would be ideal but that's a bargain for under 100

  • ozbaragined ! cant select outright now

  • "select Outright and No to not needing a plan" —————-sorry for dumb question but there is no option for no plan selectet, it has to be select 12/24/36 month to pay?

  • +1

    Looks like outright is gone

  • +1

This deal is stil attainable. Just select 24 months, the cheapest plan, and cancel immediately. Arguably better value than the 'outright' option:

    "$1.50/month

Minimum cost $96.03. Includes device payments over 24 months and one month of your chosen plan fees."

    • Would this not result in the total cost being $96.30 plus 1 month of Optus service on whatever plan you cancel?

    • Can you explain how 96$?

      24x $1.5 equals = $36..

Any cancellation fee? Will they refund plan 38.5$ if we don't activate sim and cancel on 1st day?

      • +1

No they won’t refund Plan fees. You just get one month of usage as a minimum. But the maths doesn’t work out (As you pointed out): 24x1.5 + 38.5 =74.5. So it’s cheaper lol

        • +1

the small print below the payment button reads:
"Minimum cost $134.53. Includes device payments over 24 months and one month of your chosen plan fees."
not sure if your calculation is right?

          • @Stickout: that's bizarre - see my comment above, quoted directly from the website.

EDIT: The above was without selecting a plan. Looks like once you select a plan, it increases the minimum price. Likely just lazy coding, but seems shady TBH.

  • +1

I'm currently using this phone and it's awful - but a bargain at under 100 bucks

    • +2

      ?!

If it's awful - then for most people it would be $100 down the drain.

Perhaps there are a few people who are happy with an awful phone…. Whether it's $100 or $1,000.. but it sounds like this is a "deal" to steer clear of.

      • +1

Someone who texts and makes phone calls, great phone

Someone who is running the processor hungry games and constantly switching back and forth between large, memory intensive apps, not great.

        "YMMV" applies.

      • Sure, but if you've only got 100 (or just refuse to spend decent money on a phone) then this is the deal.

I'm only using it as my Pixel phone broke and this was available at home. I'm hanging out for BF deal but the G35 is okay until then.

  • +3

Coles also selling this for $99 starting Wednesday

  • +1

I bought a Vodafone HMD Pulse+ in the first half of the year; the price plus unlocking fee was $105. To be honest, the using experience with 4GB RAM wasn't good. It's only good enough to use as a feature phone(call & txt).

  • +1

    Outright purchase is back

  • Hi all,

Just picked this up. Few thoughts:

    1) Got it from Coles for $99
    2) Even though it is an outright phone, it's accompanying SIM card is prepaid
    3) There's a $25 unlock fee via the Optus website. If you go there and enter your IMEI
    4) The phone is awesome for the price. The display is crisp, the navigation is snappy

My use case: I'm using it as a modem essentially.

Our NBN drops out a lot and a lot "essential maintence" works. I needed a backup/failover WAN solution and thought this was perfect.

    I have a pretty large 100GB from the $69 Galaxy Z Flip 7 deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/917793)

Optus allows data sharing between postpaid plans and there's a very cheap $10/month data only sim plan right now. This allows me to pool the data between my daily use phone and also this backup phone.

Honestly speaking though, I might get another one to use as daily driver and sell my Z Flip 7!

    • +2

So this is definitely NOT network unlocked since it is a prepaid phone, anyone received their outright G35 and can confirm its UNLOCKED already?

      • +1

You're replying to someone who bought it from Coles which is different to this post.

    • How is it? I am looking for a large battery phone as wifi hotspot.

  • +2

Got Mine yesterday, Yes its network unlocked

  • +1

    Any feedback? Support Esim?

    • +1

Supports E Sim, not bad for under $100 but you can expand the Ram 4GB main + 4G expandable from system storage.

  • -4

I bought 12 of these and now they are sold out already lol. Think they pulled the deal cause people were buying in bulk?

  • +1

Can confirm this phone is fully Unlocked

  • OOS

  • Unfortunately, I was looking for 000-issue forced replacement phone that would not break the bank, it is now out of stock.

    • Another option is Coles for an Optus locked one if your local store has stock.

      • I am on LEBARA/Vodafone - needed to replace 2 phones so I opted for the Vodafone prepaid deals at the moment (I will not end up using the SIM $35 value that comes with it but better than being blocked) - got 2 phones for $173 total (I am not a power user) so I am happy with that (although not happy with the forced to do so approach).

My Samsung Galaxy A12 will remain just an app device for all my home needs, I will not boher porting everything to the new phone unless I have to.

I hope there is a class action against vodafone especially now people start dying because they have been blocked completely even if they could call 000 (but vodafone is not sure)

The vodafone (and now LEBARA) approach is to cut your head off to remedy a little finger pain - wait a minut you are dead after that !

LEBARA has ruched after the reported death sending out an identical SMS like vodafone but not even giving the required 30 day notice - will block on the 10th of December (please contact us to GIVE YOU ZERO support basically)

  • I am on Vodafone (unfortunately) the cause of all problems -:)

This may be much better Motorola G56 8/256GB WIFI5 NFC dual nano snim/esim + micro SD $197 at Office works or $199 at JB HIFI and BIGW (available in shops)

It is double the $ but also double the power (inclusing RAM/Storage)
