  • hows the reliability of the service in Japan?

    • +2

We used the true unlimited one in February. Perfect service.

      • +1

Yeah same goes - was great service. Altho my partner had the lower plan and I swear her speeds were faster then mine

        • Could have been thru two different providers

          • +2

@Save 50 Cent: The Au/KDDI Unlimited eSIMs is rated #1 for the "Overall performance" by OpenSignal and we have personally used it, the service is definitely excellent! It has local latency, wide coverage and fast speed!

            -Anton

            • @TravelKon: can vouch for travelkon, easy to use in the Global Orange sim, was able to use through Asia, Europe and North America - only had issues with trying to check data usage (but just relied on iOS device calculations on data usage)

              • +1

@iwantaphone: Thanks for the feedback :)

Checking data usage for the Global Orange SIM should be a simple dial #123# (although it might be buggy sometimes!)

I used esims from TravelKon when I went to Japan last month, unlimited data, AU/KDDI network, worked well everywhere except very rural areas where there is no coverage. Stopped working once or twice over a 30 day period, but started working again immediately after turning sim off/on or phone off/on (could easily have been my 2 years old phone, not the esim).

Had a question which I asked them (TravelKon) over Messenger, they responded instantly.

I'll use them again next time, but I'll only buy when on special, of course.

      • Thanks for the support!

        -Anton

    • Always purchase from Travelkon. Simply the best and I dont know how I seem to travel every time these guys have a massive sale. Will be buying in 2 days

      • 😂😂 nice timing!

I’ve used them a couple of times in Japan (plus more elsewhere) and it’s been great and hassle-free.

      • +1

Thanks for the support! We always strive to provide seamless experience :)

        -Anton

    • Just came back from Japan using the KDDI local true unlimited. It worked immediately after we landed and the service had not stopped once for the entire trip. I was constantly on the phone with translation, google maps, web and some youtube. Had a question prior to departure and TravelKon responded pretty much immediately on messenger and put my mind at ease. One thing that the OzBargain community did help me with was the advice to activate in Australia which I am glad I did the day before I flew and everything worked well from there, thought I'd reshare this if it helps someone.

      • That's what we love to hear!!

Yes the KDDI eSIM is awesome! Especially the fact that is is True Unlimited :)

        -Anton

    • Used Docomo/IIJ last time, super fast

  • -1

Just use a few klook free sims lmao

  • +1

what network provide to china/hongkong? mate is going there

    • Hey there, we use China Mobile / Telecom / Unicom (i.e. all the major carriers) in China

Whilst Hong Kong we use "3"

      -Anton

      • They allow access to Google?

        • +3

I just got back from China with a Travelkon 50gb esim and it worked flawlessly - even in remote areas. Had no issues with accessing google, YouTube etc

          • @kangny: We are glad to hear our China eSIM worked everywhere, since our eSIM will work on all 3 carriers you should not have any coverage issue (unless none of them cover the area!)

            -Anton

  • Flying to Japan on Friday, already have two Klook sims but I'll grab one unlimited one. Cheers!

    • Nice! have an awesome trip!

The Unlimited eSIM is definitely a good one to grab, especially at 40% OFF!

      -Anton

  • Sweet, just in time for my UK and Europe trip next month, thanks

    • Looks like an awesome trip!

"eSIM service will end on 180th day of purchase"

From memory this used to be 90 days - so I can purchase for Japan now for the beginning of March?

    • +3

Yes we recently upgraded all our eSIMs to have 180 days validity (except Japan IIJ)

      -Anton

      • Is the 180 days to the start of end of the Sim card duration?
Eg if you got a 14 day Sim card, does it need to be first activated within 180 days and will then work for the duration of the esim bought, or the 14 days needs to have been within those 180 days?

        • +2

          14 days starts after activation

So could do 179 days then activate and use for 14 days no problems

          • @yellah: That's correct - although exception applies to the True Unlimited KDDI eSIM, it has a "hard expiry date"

            -Anton

  • I can confirm great service , use them multiple times to japan n korea. Quick assistance when there is issue.

    • Yes we do pride ourselves for our 24/7 instant response via live chat in case any issues arises :)

      -Anton

      • The best service, ever

Trip.com appears to be cheaper with everyday low price (for China). Anyone used Trip.com that can share your experience?

    • +1

All good to compare around 👍, what sets us apart is our best-in-class support (instant replies, real humans in AU 🇦🇺) and the fact we only sell quality, tested eSIMs. Peace of mind while travelling is priceless ✈️🌏

      -Anton

    • +2

I have used Trip.com esim for malaysia recently and they were good. Didn't have any issues. I installed it before leaving aus. Also I got my parents esims for China/Macao and HK esim and they don't have any issues either. You get sent a qrcode with instructions like all esim providers. I have not contacted them for support so have no idea on that front compare to feedback about Travelkon's customer service.

    • Definitely can't fault trip.com for eSim price, even works with TopCashback. Help/service is excellent - sometimes the APN setting doesn't get auto picked up but its in the instructions and I didn't read them 😅.

One proper issue though, was that one time, the eSim wouldn't auto connect to the carrier, saying SOS only, so I had to force it to connect in carrier settings, I didn't bother to find out why since I only needed to change the setting to another carrier every few days when moving city, I can't remember which country it was, and might not have been a esim specific issue either.

There are some cons to trip.com though:

      • Data might be routed via risky providers who might sniff the traffic. (Workaround: Make sure to keep device updated, use SSL websites and VPNs if needing security, though most sites use SSL at least)

      • Data is usually routed via China/Hong Kong or another country of political tension/known for bots/hack attack location so if using an local Australian service, their Firewall or CDN might block you (eg Woolworths rewards website), it's pretty rare you need to use these services while overseas in my opinion though. (Workaround: use a VPN to change data traffic location). I also guess TravelKon uses a better gateway location for data to exit onto the internet?

      • Trip.com eSims load up in a embedded pDF reader (on my Samsung phone app anyway) so a little clumsy to zoom in and take photo of QR code.

      • Likewise, it's clumsy to click a link in the PDF to check data usage and limited/no options to manage esim account. (Workaround: use in-built phone data usage checker in settings app)

      • Also related, no easy way/clumsy to turn off reminders to renew eSim (if renewable) until they finally stop (only a few days of them though).

      • No dedicated eSim listing filters, they all show their 1day/0.5GB price, so need to click in and set purchase options, eg 30GB for 15 days, to get the correct price, note it down and then compare to the next one. (Though price is only few dollars different assuming you are comparing single country sims, which is still cheap).

So trip.com is good if you don't mind these areas of concern, as the price is same the 40% off promotion but everyday with no foreign currency.

But TravelKon seems better for AU support and maybe better infrastructure.

    • Have used both.
      Trip.com for Vietnam/Korea (1 trip)
      Travelkon for China/Korea/Singapore/Japan (5 trips)
Personally, I've never had to contact support for either. Good to support local though.
I'll be trying out 1 of each sim for the same trip to China in Jan so hopefully can give a side by side comparison then.

  • +1

Perfect timing! Travelkon are brilliant, had to troubleshoot an eSIM for my parents recently and their customer service team was 10/10.

Thank you for your kind words!

Our CS really do try their best to serve everyone :)

  • Flying to Japan in just under two weeks. New to travelling, how does this work… Do I have to buy it on the day whilst I'm waiting at the airport here in aus… or do I buy it a couple days before??? I want to be able to land in JPN and have internet almost instantely.

So far Airalo seems to be easy, just pay at the airport whilst waiting to board my flight and I'll be good once I land.

    • Can buy it now
You will be emailed a QR code

Scan the QR code with your phone off of your laptop/ iPad/ partners device

Scan the QR code a few days before you go just incase you have trouble (if you have trouble contact support on WhatsApp they will get back to you super quick) and just turn it off untill you land. Make sure you have roaming on with your Esim and turn off your main sim before you take off

    • You can purchase our eSIM prior to your travel -> the eSIM will then be instantly sent to your email.

Simply install it prior to your trip, and once you land you will have instant connection :)

      -Anton

      • 'once you land you will have instant connection :)'

suggest turn the travel eSIM on while you're in flight, as it won't start working until it detects the network in your destination country. That way, while you're still taxiing up to the arrivals gate, it can be already connected.

If you wait until you get off the plane before turning it on, it may not be immediately available for use when you want it, for e.g. Japan Immigration.

        • Thanks for elaborating! Yes you are absolutely right

We are one of those people that turn on the eSIM right after we land so that the eSIM has some time to "load"

          -Anton

          • @TravelKon: Cool thanks so much everyone.

          • @TravelKon: Just another question, I was looking at the 15 day plan, does the 15 days come into affect when I land OR when I download the sim from the QR code. Would hate to scan the QR too early. cheers

            • @banterbants: For Unlimited KDDI Japan eSIM? plan starts when you land in Japan - all good to scan the QR code beforehand

              -Anton

  • wonder if this will be 30% off to.. going to nepal and india

    • Stay tune to our BF sale information :)

      -Anton

  • DTAC Thailand eSims are only 10 days. Can you do a 30 day one?

    • Sorry we do not have 30 days DTAC on offer - perhaps you can purchase 3x DTAC eSIM if that works?

      -Anton

  • Can I buy now but use it a longtime later like this time next year?

    • +1

Check the details on the website, there are various expiry dates, most are 180 days from purchase I believe. They do have regular sales, so you're likely better off buying closer to your travel date.

      • +1

Our maximum validity is currently 180 days -> if you are after for next November 2026, we suggest waiting until closer to you date

        -Anton

  • Hi OP, going to Taiwan for 12 days, mainly use for Instagram to check on food recommendations and google maps for walking directions, how much data should I buy ?

    • +1

We usually recommend to allow for around 1 - 1.5GB / day so 20GB would probably be safe

      -Anton

  • Was looking at the middle east esim for use in Oman + Pakistan. Could you confirm if it'll be 4g or 3g? And if there are calls and sms included (says it is not guaranteed) and how the zones work, if I go to a zone b country first and then zone a, will i receive 20gb data or 15gb?

    • Hey there!

Both Pakistan and Oman will have 4G networks, in Pakistan, 4G is supported by Jazz, Telenor Pakistan, and Ufone network. In Oman, 4G is supported by Nawras and Oman Mobile network. For more details about coverage, please check the following link : https://boutique.orange.fr/informations/travel/reseaux-parte…

Although this eSIM includes (tiny amount) calls and texts, they are not guaranteed, due to the large variation between network operator and the vast amount of countries covered. We also recommend using apps like WhatsApp to make calls and send messages.

For the zone question, you can fully used each Zone quota in full (i.e. 20GB in Zone 1 and 15GB in Zone 2, so potentially you can use 35GB)

      Hope that make sense

      -Anton

      • Thanks Anton! I bought an esim and have received the email confirmation. I also received another email saying that i would've received a redemption code or qr code in another email but i haven't received it yet. It's been a few hours since the purchase and have checked junk email as well. Is this normal by any chance and should receive it soon?

  • +2

The store rep here working really hard. I do use their service and has been good. With ozbargain's spirits, I must say trip.com also sells esim. Price is more competitive, very flexible and alway sell at a discount, so you do not have to wait for the 30% to come. I have been using and converted to trip.com lately.

    • I read the negative comments on esim on Trip.com site and they are quite recent, not worth the risk in ruining your holiday without connection just to save a few coins, situation like this I prefer a proven supplier.

  • Hi Rep, I'm heading to South Korea and Japan and wanted to know if the speeds be noticeably different if I used separate unlimited SKT and KDDI eSims as opposed to a single Asia 5G eSIM Unlimited 13 Countries?

    Thanks

    • +1

Both the SKT and KDDI are local eSIMs so things will generally be "faster" due to lower latency, in saying that Asia 13 offer convenience in the one eSIM and by no means "slow"

We would say it is not "materially" different, however SKT and KDDI does offer True Unlimited so you won't need to worry about data limits, the Asia 13 Unlimited has FUP

      -Anton

  • Hi Rep
Heading to Vietnam soon. Noticed your Viettel packages are out of stock. Will you be getting any more in?
    Thanks

    • There was some stock issues with Viettel which is why we stopped selling them - they are back in stock (from the supplier) however it can go out of stock again at "anytime" so we may put it back with this disclaimer.

The way this work is since it is through a redemption code, if the supplier suddenly "ran out" you will not be able to "redeem" the Viettel eSIM (unless of course you use it immediately after purchase).

      -Anton

  • The Orange eSIM with 100GB 30 days activation for Europe, is this network confirmed limited to just 4G / LTE so there's no 5G?

    https://www.travelkon.com.au/product/europe-uk-esim-44-count…

    • Good spot - it used to be 4G/LTE only, it seems like they recently updated to include 5G so we will be updating this, as always though the 5G depends on the location and coverage

      -Anton

      • Hi Anton

I made an order (193693) for an Orange eSIM for Europe.

Got a bunch of emails (Order created, order received, PIN, rewards, now complete), but I didn't receive the actual redemption code / eSIM QR from Orange.

The PIN email said tht Ii would receive the redemption code from a seperate email.

Can you please help with this?

        • Yep it will be all sent within a few hours apologies the system is backlogged!

          -Anton

  • Just got back from China and I used their 50gb/30 day esim. Highly recommend Travelkon. Set up was easy and automatic after scanning the QR code. All emails, google, YouTube and other goodies worked as advertised

    • Thank you for your awesome feedback! Glad everything worked out :)

      -Anton

  • Just back TravelkKon e-sim worked brilliantly in Italy and Spain. Didn't work in Albania but I didn't expect it to. Was great that it just starting working as soon as I arrived, not like other travel Sims that I had to activate on arrival .

    • Nice! Hope you had an awesome trip!

      -Anton

  • @TravelKon Is there any deals for Taiwan? Can I buy them and use in Jan 2026? For the unlimited data plan, is there any cap for the speed? Can I turn on hotspot to share with friends when travelling Japan? Thanks.

    • +1

Yes all our products will be on sale (30% OFF) - unlimited plan comes with 1.5GB Daily FUP before speed drops to 1Mbps except for True Unlimited Plan for Japan and South Korea

Japan Unlimited will be at 40% OFF (this is the biggest sale we have done ever!)

      -Anton

      • @TravelKon thanks a lot, can I use ultimate plan for hotspot to share?

        • +1

Japan KDDI True Unlimited will have limits for hotspot (day - 1, so buying a 15 days eSIM means you have 14GB to use for hotspot)

          -Anton

          • @TravelKon: @TravelKon thanks for your patience, does it mean 14GB is just a limit for hotspot, but still unlimited for primary phone with eSIM card itself?

            • +1

@shoppinginsyd: Yes that's correct (for the 15 days eSIM)

              -Anton

  • Nooo theres no Docomo/Softbank physical SIMs :(

    • Yes unfortunately due to its short validity we have discontinued this product

      -Anton

  • Hi @TravelKon
I am going on a South Pacific cruise. Do you have an eSim for multiple South Pacific countries - New Caledonia and Vanuatu specifically?

  • Can store rep clarify this can be used for January and May 2026 trip to Japan?

    • May 2026 - may be a tad too far, can you confirm the exact date?

      Jan 2026 is fine

      -Anton

  • Hi Anton,

Been buying off you people for years, HIGHLY recommended!

Had a minor issue while overseas a couple of years, and resolved quickly via chat/email.

2 quick Qs (some were partially answered):

    1. While in OZ, can I scan the QR code? I presume it'll say something like no network, but will connect seamlessly once at destination?

    2. The email from TravelKon now has a link to click for iOS devices. Can I still scan the QR code, and not use the link? This is for a family member with an iPhone to scan the QR code displayed on my phone.

    Cheers!

    • +1

Thank you for your continuous support! We really do appreciate it

Yes most of our eSIM you can install in Australia prior to your departure - make sure you read the product description as some plans "starts" upon install

We provide 3 different method for installation for iOS (iPhone), which is an install link (easiest way), QR code (which you can still do) and manual activation

      -Anton

  • Been waiting for this. Bring on tomorrow!

    • Thank you for your continuous support!

      -Anton

  • @TravelKon - we are going to US/Canada next month for the whole month. Leaning to data only eSIM since we are all on iphones. Which eSIM would you recommend?
(and hope you have some deals on them tomorrow :)) - Cheers!

    • +1

We would probably recommend the AT&T and Verizon as it has Unlimited Data in the USA and plenty to use in Canada - please remember to check compatibility prior to your purchase

      -Anton
