Buy this or wait till a half price sale on the v8 cyclone?

    • +2

      yes

      • -6

        Neither, these are rubbish

        • +3

They are literally rubbish. Grabbed 2 from hard rubbish this morning. Both relatively easy fixes…see my post below.

P.S. I fix these up by the dozen. They really are poorly made. I think the V8 is the best of the worst. Has more suction on normal power mode. Once less cells in the pack, so suits replacement with a 18v (4Ah +) drill battery and $15 Alix adapter. Infinitely better than the Dyson original which is not fit for purpose.

        • +3

Dyson still a good name. The thing is every stick vacuum requires more maintenance than the traditional bagless canister vac. Because of physical limitation, if you dont clean up parts regularly, built-up dust gonna reduce suction significantly.
Also stick vac runs on battery (which degrades after 2yrs), it feels like the vac ages too quickly. Just replace the battery and see how much it improves. This is true for a lot of battery-powered device, not just Dyson vac.
Dyson, like everything else, is just a tool. If you know how to use, it's great. If you're clueless, even the greatest device becomes shit :)

          • @User531437: I replaced the dreame vacuum battery after 4 years. They still had 2200mah instead of 2500mah remaining, but the volrage sag used to make them cut off sooner. Also on the dreame, the filter wont get clogged. The dyson older models have that long purplish filter that keeps getting clogged, dunno if the new ones have them too and its hard to clean these long filters. Nothing like that on the Dreame. I would not buy a v8 for this very reason.

  • Waiting on gen5 complete deal

    • +1

I actually don't recommend it - I now have tennis elbow because it's too heavy

      Great vaccuum though lol

      • +50

Maybe you shouldn't play tennis with it

      • +2

+1, returned and got v8. Much better to handle

        • I have v8 now. From all reviews gen5 is on heavier side of manageable. Outsize model is too heavy.

  • I bought the V8 a couple of months ago for that price, maybe a bit less. Great machine.

There is a new improved model out now with an easily replaceable battery, but at that price, at least not yet,

    • Is your v8 battery replaceable?

      • +2

Yeah. Remove one screw from the handle. And swap the battery compartment.

Dyson will send a replacement if it fails within warranty. And they sell spares.

The screw is what makes it less easy to replace compared to a drill where you'd just press a release button.

It's not like replacing a phone battery.

        • I got an aftermarket battery with higher capacity off amazon, no issues.

    • -6

I have one and it is next to useless. Do better with a dustpan & brush. Yes the battery is replaceable but the official ones cost a bomb.

      • +1

In what world is a V8 next to useless?
What are you comparing it to???

        • +3

          Dustpan & brush apparently.

          • @edfoo: I have the V8 specific to not have to use a dustpan and brush!
Have retrofit with Ryobi batteries, working a treat.

            • @Jikx: Could you share details of the adapter you use please?

      • Check the little flap door at the start of power unit. They get stuck.

        Hair jams rollers.

Dust balls lodge in the right angle hose on the brush head.

Failed batteries need the BMS flashed with FU Dyson firmware. Programmer is like $10 on alix / Temu

  • +1

    waiting for a v16 discount.

  • +5

    waiting on v25 sub $300

  • I'm feeling like there will be even better deals around Black Friday.

V8 is probably near its low before its no longer stocked, the others may have more price cuts.

  • +1

After cashback I got my v11 advanced with the freestanding dok for ~$530 a couple months back. Stuffed up and didn't stack with the amex 6% though

  • wait for this goes ATL again under $300 …

  • Any Coanda2x deals?

  • Using the V8 for 3 years and the suction power is decreasing significantly, not to mention the poor battery. Just bought a Xiaomi G20 Lite at $99 which is much lighter and perform well, no return.

    • Hope you clean out the filter regularly if suction becomes a problem. Battery thing happens to everything that runs on battery really. Otherwise use a corded vacuum.

    • I've had the Dyson V11 (standard SV14) for 3yrs now and it's showing signs of battery degradation.
I purchased it off FB Marketplace for $500 with all the goodies and I believe the previous owner had it from 2019 to 2022.

My battery lasts long but it takes around 7 hits until it continues working.
Like I would press the trigger then it would stop and the blue lights will flash on the battery. I press trigger again then stops x 6. Takes almost 40 seconds until I can get continuous running. Battery lasts up to 70 minutes on ECO and 48 minutes on the Standard/Auto.

    • +2

      dirty filter

    • Inreplaced the filters in my V7 and it is like new again

  • I have 2 x V15 detect and I must say they aren’t great.

The design of the button to be pressed while using gets tiring cleaning a full double story house. The skirting piece to suck up bits in corners is weak, I bought a black and decker Dustbuster for this that does a much better job of tight to reach places.

The heavier brushing head is required for rugs, door mats and carpet. The “detect” head is only good for flooboards.

Dyson warranty support is amazing they’ve replaced main body and motor out of warranty no questions asked.

I bought them at release date $1199 each

    • Consider buying/making a trigger lock. I recently got a v15 too and although I liked the idea of the Gen5 being triggerless, Dyson also messed up the ergonomics on the button version. v15 with a trigger lock is proving pretty good though.

  • I got a V8, bought in 2016, still works and has had 1 battery replacement out of warranty. Can't believe it's still for sale, dyson tech has not improved that much since I guess….

    • Same. I'm surprised at how cheap they are these days. I think I paid like ~$700 back then. Battery died many years ago. Modded it with a ryobi adapter to use ryobi batteries and it runs for a good 30 minutes on a 4Ah.

Sister has the newer V11 and to be honest, it's much the same performance as the V8. Just a different design.

    • from the post above, I'd guess it's even gone backwards ergonomically

    • I got an aftermarket battery with higher capacity off amazon, no issues.

  • I have hybrid flooring - do i need the fluffy head for that? Tossing up between gen5detect absolute vs v8 + separate fluffy head if thats the cheaper option esp given v8 is lighter - dont want the missus to have me around to cleanup

      • +1

I think he may mean like hybrid plank flooring, as in timbery plastic stuff.

  • Got a v6 which are still running great on its third battery replacement now. Is there any reason to upgrade?

    • Buy a Ryobi adapter and you can just swap batteries.

  • Anyone know how to fix a horrible smell issue with the V8? I've replaced both filters, and honestly, it smells like literal shit whenever I use it. Maybe it sucked my dog shit or something.

    • If you vacuum up anything wet/sticky then you will get an accretion of anything awful from your floor. Just have to dismantle it completely and wash it out.

    • Remove the cyclone and wash it?

    • hahaha, that's bloody hilarious. As if it's a common or known problems with the V8's just smelling like shit after a few years, haha.

I'm no vacuum technician, but I'd say the answer is pretty obvious and as you may suspect… unless your dog happened to shit on the vacuum.

    • shine a light through the motorhead hole and the tube and make sure it’s clear, sometimes hair can get caught it in and tangles up with a whole bunch of gunk

  • I have the V11 Outsize. It's used multiple times a day, carpet and hard floors. I have a Labrador. I've had the Dyson for 4 1/2 years. It's still working well. I wouldn't be without it. I'm small, not young, and have arthritic hands but I don't find it heavy or difficult to manoeuvre.

  • Guys which one is good enough for clear dust in Car? Don't want to cost a fortune buy something too high-end for my need.

  • Just grabbed the V11 to replace a Dreame V6.

  • +1

Thanks, I desperately needed a new vacuum and was close to buying something generic of Amazon or kmart, but the V8 will serve me better. Battery isn't a huge concern since my place isn't very big anyway.

  • I have a V7. Is it worth upgrading to V8 or V15?

  • +1

V8 should be $324 now after price beat & code.

    • +1

Thanks. All prices have been reduced.

  • Purchased the V8. Finally replacing Dreame 9 which I have had since 2017 with its original battery, but only lasting now for 2-5mins.
will purchase an Alix battery adapter and 3d print the trigger mod, plus several QoL mods.

    Thank you.

    • Is Dreame 9 battery not replaceable?

      • It is, but only when you spot a sale. Last time i looked it was $120.00. Will set it aside and wait for Battery and motorised head sales.
